Lovely peaceful location in an old beech wood. Walked in on South Downs Way, bridleway then track to NW of woods to within 50m of pillar. Good condition and the last of my weekend .
2012-10-21 10:58 - TP0316 (Butser)

2012-10-20 15:09 - TP1899 (Candover)
Approached from footpath to the North.....signs says slippery and steep ! Bloody health and safety nonsense i thought.....but seriously it is setep and slippery and i am not joking ! If you want an easy option take opposite end of footpath from the south by farm , but if you fancy a mudslide back down its quite fun ! Must be one of the steepest marked footpaths have ever been on away from the mountains ! Pillar good with three deer nearby as a bonus.

This has undergone some work since last visits. Now has a wraparound "seat" commemorating the Jubilee attatched to it ......although it appears to be slanting and breaking away already. Path from road to the west has been bulldozed to make wider.....appears recent ....and more stone stored near pillar suggests there is some more changes still to come but not necessarily to the pillar.

Best to just ignore, along with all the other private notices on the gates, weather was kind and afforded us some good views. Last pillar on Explorer 155.

Walked in from the S on track that runs through the woods at Ffridd y Castell. Then follow fenceline NW and stone wall to within 100m of pillar. Excellent 360 views taking in some of Mid/N Wales finest scenery. My third visit but probably not my last, a really lovely location. Pillar is stonebuilt and in good condition.
2010-03-06 13:45 - TP5010 (Mynydd Coch)
What a visit. Cant recommend this unless you enjoy 3 hours of bog, heather, solitude, snow, bleakness and cold. If you do be my guest as I will never go back! This was my 3rd attempt, the first one the dog went lame halfway, the second time I turned an ankle and had to dip out. Views are good but bleak. There are more exciting and scenic places close but if you want all the pillars...... you have to go here! Pillar is good condition.
2010-03-05 13:45 - TP3532 (Gryn Moelfre)
Another sharp climb after Mynydd Mawr. Followed redirected By way thet used to go through "Fron", now it starts from near spot 266. Parked at Llangadwaladr then back up road. 2010-03-04 14:24 - TP2067 (Cefn Bach)
Cycled in from Caio on forest track. When you reach the cleared area the pillar is NE on small tumulus. The area has ben re-planted so in another 5 years or so you will be battling the trees again! Took a grid ref for future use. Pillar good, great views.
2010-03-04 12:03 - TP1976 (Carn Nant-Yr-Ast)
Had tried this once before and sank knee deep in a bog which put me off for the day despite trying two other approaches. Drove up from Bwlch-y-rhiw to the S on forest tacks (no barriers) to close to spot height 429 ( Bryn Cadwgan) then new forest roads to edge of forest. The open ground to pillar can be boggy but was good today. Glad to have this one in the bag! Pillar is in vgc.Great views, lovely area.
2010-03-02 14:01 - TP3268 (Fron Felen)
Easier still is to drive to the farm and ask bemused farmer for permission...somehow my explanation that this was my hobby didnt convince him that this muddy apparition before him was entirely right in the head! He directed me towards a gate and retreated inside. Pillar affords good views and is in good condition.
2010-03-02 12:24 - TP3315 (Garn Gron)
On the fringes of the Tywi forrest. Pleasant location. Parked to the W just before the fords and cycled in on bridleway then walked the last 200m. Great views. Pillar in vgc.
2010-03-01 13:45 - TP5349 (Pen Careg-Dan)
Had looked at a few ways to this one, in the end parked at start of bridleway to the SW of the cafe at Trallwm, follow the main bridleway for about a kilometre until you reach a green barn and a holiday cottage. Through gate, cross stream then skirt woodland to reach the access land. From there its a pleasant walk with expansive views to reach the pillar which is in vgc. Could easily be combined with Drygarn for a longer walk.
2010-03-01 11:21 - TP5417 (Pen-Y-Gurnos)
Lovely location.Parked at Soar Y Mynydd Chapel to the NE and cycled in on bridleway via farm ( Nant Llwyd. When you reach the farm the bridleawy goes between the farmhouse and the barns ) saw friendly farmer who pointed this out as I sailed past into his farmyard! Continue until you reach an obvious high point , then turn due S to the pillar. Great expansive views and peace and quiet. Pillar in vgc.
2010-02-26 15:23 - TP1979 (Carn Twrch)
Parked due N at the high point near cattle grid. Cross open field then hug wood for half a mile to avoid gulies. Once you reach high ground take direct route SW following intermittent Quad tracks. Pillar in clearing at edge of woodland. Nice location lovely Feb sunshine for company.
2010-02-26 13:21 - TP4619 (Mallaen Mountain)
Another visit to my favourite area of Wales.Pared to the S ofHome Farm near Cilycwm. Footpath across fields then skirt woodland. Once you reach a track turn East for 50m then N up a grass path to access open hillside. A fairly good path leads across open ground to the pillar.

2009-11-17 13:23 - TP2542 (Cranmore)
My final pillar on the IOW and was hoping that it would be straightforward....not! Having driven to the top of Cranmore Road I thought it would be easy. Now must offer thanks to mickandshanes log, absolutely spot on. I visited Halcyon and the gentleman there said it was fine for me to go and visit (GPS was showing 0.08 so knew I was close!!) met a lady in a car just up track who apparentely lived in the caravan but after I explained that I had already asked and smiled nicely(well as good as I can muster!) she was fine and pointed me in the right direction.Pillar in brambles and has views of the Solent through the trees. Given the proximity to accomodation I think it best to ask and not upset the residents especially as they are absolutely fine with people visiting.
2009-11-17 12:45 - TP5936 (Shepherds Hill)
Took a flyer on this one and drove past all of the "private" signs and "no turning beyond this point" eventually got to farm at Elmsworth and spotted chap on tractor....apologised profusely for ignoring signs and asked if he minded if I visited pillar. he was happy enough and even pointed me towards the gates that were open and led to the pillar.Pillar is good, next to flag pole.Great views.Flags down but could hear gunfire from a different area of the range.
2009-11-17 12:18 - TP6225 (Street Place)
Had plans for asking at farm but as earlier logs state this is not really an option as it appears that it is just a house now. Parked 100m SE near Elm farm and adjacent to small lake marked on Explorer. Then was an incredibly muddy walk for 1/4 of a mile to the pillar which is in newly planted field so had to seek a tram line. Pillar is in good condition.
2009-11-17 11:37 - TP1627 (Brighstone Down)

Relatively straightforward, but still walked hedgeline twice before I found! Parking in gateway up track to farm.Pilar in hedge but good condition.
2009-11-16 15:11 - TP0891 (Arreton Down)
Once again the ones that look simple on the map turn out to be the most awkward!! Parking is at gateway 300m West. Fast road and not a good place to stop. Could see no other parking/ access options without walking the road which I didnt fancy. Field full of cows and calves and a Hereford bull, decided to skirt edge just in case! Pillar good, limited views.
2009-11-16 13:53 - TP2747 (Dean Farm Whitwell)

2009-11-16 10:38 - TP0751 (Bembridge Fort)
The bulk of the pillar lies just to the N of the old location where there is a bolt. The spider has gone as well as the flush bracket. Access was gained as there was someone working within the fort when I arrived, after asking nicely was given permission to visit the site after being told to be careful not to fall in the moat.

2009-11-15 11:40 - TP0645 (Freshwater FBM Aux 1)
Had 3 attempts at this over the duration of visit, found nothing despite relatively low vegetation. Think that the fence has been replaced as there is no opening into the field as described by Phil Richards, so all my counting of the fenceposts may have been a waste of time!! Not convinced that it is gone as see no reason why it would be removed.
2009-11-15 11:30 - TP7223 (Freshwater)

There are new barns adjacent to the pillar, not marked on my Explorer map.Had passed this way last year but gate was closed and it was dark so gave it miss. Drove up to farm and spoke to lady and her 3 dogs who was happy to point out pillar and interested to know a bit about it. Said her kids enjoyed playing on it so hopefully it will be there for a while. In vgc.Have to recomend asking to visit this one as it is pretty much in their garden and there were no objections whatsoever.

Great location. Every now and then a pillar surprises by its low height but classic views. This is definately one of them. Superb 360 views including Cors Caron reserve. Footpaths are vague but this is Mid Wales!! Walked in from Ffair -Rhos then across fields above farm. Pillar excellent condition.
2009-09-30 14:21 - TP3070 (Esgair Fraith)
Another fine pillar in a wonderful setting. Parked upu to the North near Cwmberwyn, then was a sharp climb on access land. Even though we are in the middle of a dry spell the land here always seems to be able to produce vast areas of moving bog which can be a bit strange to walk on! Occasionally followed meandering Quad bike tracks across the worst bits as figured if it could hold a quad bike it could cope with my beer belly! Pillar is on small ridge with excellent views over Tregarron and further West.
2009-09-30 12:51 - TP4493 (Llyn Du)
I adore this area of mid wales and cannot fault it. Todays trio started with a cycle in from the South on well made track. At spot height 511 go west around small llyn up a muddy forest track. Once you reach the high point the area to theNorth has been clear felled - opening up some wonderfull views towards Llyn Du and beyond. Another classic and worthy of a visit. Pillar is in very good condition with some flaky painton the flush.
2009-09-29 14:38 - TP3844 (Hill Barn)
Revisited to get better photographs. Condition still very good. Exposed to farm and its a long walk back to the cover of the woods!
2009-09-28 13:11 - TP5754 (Royal Oak)
Nice location, very dodgy drive up!! Good views and intersting setting. Pillar over 1 fence in stubble field.
2009-09-28 12:12 - TP2971 (East Dean)
Thought I would save time and drive up to this one, decided it was a bit rude so asked at Dean Hill barn Farm (Bungalow) Spoke to owner who asked why I wanted to visit and said that he ad adopted Pillar? Was friendly and helpful and suggested I follow him up as he was going that way. As is on a footpath is not an access issue but if you pass you could say where you are going as he seemed interested that people visit them. Very good condition and in safe hands!! Great views .
2009-09-28 11:39 - TP4939 (Mount Farm)
Walked in from FP to the S then deviated to the pillar. Next to small low stone enclosure maybe a grave? Good views and pillar fine shape.
2009-09-28 11:18 - TP5958 (Shootash)
Park at substation, then into field. In sight of farm but not sure if they own this field. Good condition.
2009-09-28 11:09 - TP1351 (Big Green Hill)
Easy access from A27. Parking adjacent to pillar then over gate. Good views of Romsey Abbey.Pillar good condition.
2009-09-28 10:52 - TP0961 (Baddesley)
Roadside, fence hop required for flush. Paddock land,in sight but no one around today.Pillar vgc.
2009-09-28 10:31 - TP5918 (Sharpes Farm)
Walked in from Malthouse Farm then over one fence.Good condition in harrowed field.
2009-09-28 10:07 - TP4788 (Michelmersh)
Footpath from the North, through woods then across field. Good views. Pillar good condition near edge of (working)quarry.
2009-09-25 17:00 - TP6616 (Turf Hill)
Quick easy find, parking to the East in housing estate.Pleasant woodland area that seems to attract local yoof.! Pillar damaged on top corner.
2009-09-25 17:00 - TP5536 (Pudding Hill)
Free parking at Heritage Centre. Very busy. Pillar easy to find once you get your bearings! Good condition.
2009-09-25 16:08 - TP6164 (Staple Hill)
Pleasant location. No sign of pillar.
2009-09-25 15:43 - TP0324 (Staple Hill Aux)
Easy find with GPS. Flaky white paint, noisy from M3. Easy parking.
2009-09-16 17:43 - TP0448 (Dungeness)
Unusual location, rather bleak and this was quite a pleasant day! Found rivet after 10mins of searching. Uninspiring but my final log on Explorer 125 so satisfying as well.
2009-09-16 16:50 - TP0553 (Guestling)
Nice and easy. Corner gone but otherwise ok.
2009-09-16 15:24 - TP4092 (Huttons Farm)
Buried in hedge but can still see damage to the top. Park at end of track pillar 15m down on right.
2009-09-16 13:01 - TP3127 (Fawley)
Easy access, visible off the lane. Most diplomatic way is off footpath from the South, but still involves a fence cross, its just that its out of sight!! Pillar hedgeline and good condition.
2009-09-16 12:44 - TP6081 (Southend)
After the fiasco of Northend I was hopeful the Southend would be straightforward...no. Head high thistles and the noisiest Partridge to alert the farmer to my trespassing was not a good start! Pillar is easiest to access by driving down towards the main farm. Park outsid first barns. Over gate then imediately into field on your right, this saves crossing the fence later.Pillar in v good shape,ok views and a Red Kite above.
2009-09-16 11:59 - TP5157 (North End)
Very frustrating this one. Had skirted rear of farm and was 50m from pillar when farmer came and told me to bugger off, even my usual pleading and explaining didnt wash so had to leave. This one is in full view of the farm from all directions. Tried again half hour later from the other side and he was still there!! I will return and wait until it is dark methinks!!
2009-09-16 11:42 - TP4235 (Kingston Hill)
Found easily mainly thanks to earlier loggers directions. Limited views. walked straight up track from the NW, no signs saying private, take first right hand track uphill. Just past flat concrete area on left enter woods crossing diagonally above concreted area. Look for edge of bushes and then I cant better Father Teds advice / photos for the last 15metres. Glad to find it having read earlier logs!!
2009-09-15 15:14 - TP5411 (Pen-Y-Foel)
Pleasant short walk from the SE. Drive through estate, follow lane to parking area. Then RUPP for half a mile, over fields to pillar. Good views pillar painted white with a thick coat of paint.
2009-09-13 17:35 - TP4159 (Kempshott)
Tight against dual carriageway. Reccent accident has only just missed it.Good condition, uninspiring location.
2009-09-13 17:25 - TP7126 (Old Down)
2009-09-13 17:15 - TP7147 (Basingstoke)
No access on Sunday as within school grounds. Will try again when next passing
2009-09-13 16:58 - TP0632 (Basingstoke FBM Aux 1)
No sign. And OS has no sketch or photo....ominous!
2009-09-13 16:20 - TP3988 (Holybourne)
In recently harvested field. Private sign on fence next to field gate.Limited views. Pilar has bad damage to top.
2009-09-13 15:45 - TP4021 (Horsedown Common)
Great views. Walk in from N then across fields. Landowner has erected a plaque informing you that you are on private land and could you please leave.Pillar good condition.
2009-09-13 15:30 - TP0318 (Phoenix Green)
Easy find,recently cut verge.
2009-09-08 10:24 - TP6772 (Watership Down)
Easy walk up. Good views.Pillar good condition in recently harvested field.
2009-09-07 14:10 - TP5396 (Pentre Brain)
Nice spot. Garvald Punks has parking and access spot on. Noisy dogs at farm but no problem. Pillar exposed base.Good views.
2009-09-07 12:15 - TP3284 (Gaer Fach)
Second time lucky for me, and realised had been within 20ft of pillar at first attempt....more perseverance and less worry about a few scratches was all I needed!! Accessed this time from the lane to the NW. Best advice is to ...wear long trousers, go in winter and follow the S side of the wall for two thirds of the way then cross and make path through bracken and brambles. Pillar is very good condition, protected by trees which sadly block what I imagine would be amazing views.
2009-09-07 10:38 - TP2182 (Cincoed)
After S2196 this was relatively pleasant apart from the fact I was still stuck in the nightmare of the Welsh valleys ! Easy access over fence ( gate out when I saw it!) Pillar good in small empty pasture field.
2009-09-07 10:21 - TP5409 (Pen-Y-Fan)
Good easy access from the W. Two fields with cows and calves but no problem today. Good views and safe parking. Pillar good condition.Have read other logs and must say that I experienced none of the smells, sights logged. Must just have been a good day as i am ( as anyone that follows my logs of the Welsh Valleys knows... ) one of the most scathing of the way the area is vandalised and abused. I still cannot believe that the local authorities run their respective areas and ignore fly tipping and desecration of the landscape without attempting to rectify it. They should all be in court. Have travelled length and breadth of UK and still think these valleys are enough to make you give up hope, how do they live like this?? Passed a caravan on a slip road in Blackwood, it was being used as a skip and had been there for weeks if not months and the locals just drive around it !! Dire. Leave them to rot I think... If they cant even notice they are living in a shithole then maybe they in best place ?
2009-09-01 14:18 - TP5006 (Mynydd Carn-Y-Cefn)
One of the more pleasant valley pillars, good safeish parking to the NW near house. Hillside badly scarred by bikes but all quiet today. Pillar is badly damaged around the spider but otherwise bearing up. Good views and picked a gap between showers to visit. My final pillar on OL13.
2009-08-31 16:45 - TP4488 (Llethr-Llwyd)
Had looked at a few options for accessing this and none were favourable. Eventually accessed from the NE on Byway that doesnt exist on the ground. Pass through grounds of cottage, over fence into woodland, then make way through scrub to the open fields. Pillar is in sheep pasture with good views. Good condition.
2009-08-31 15:14 - TP1468 (Blaen Gofuarth)
Access from NW at Groes. Bridleway through faryard with noisy but harmless dog.Pillar in good condition with views opening up as weather lifts.
2009-08-31 14:13 - TP2073 (Cefn Coed)
Walked in from farm at Llandre to the E. Permissive path through farm, spoke to friendly farmer who directed me towards bridge....which is 200m to the N of where it is shown on my Explorer. Then straight up through the woods on track, skirt W edge of woods to pillar. Rain stopped at last..typical Bank Holiday weather!. Pillar in good condition in sheep pasture.
2009-08-30 14:06 - TP3354 (Gilfach-Y-Fran)
Pillar is v good condition, about 40m from mast. Acces from FP to the SW. If you choose this approach make sure you go to the Right(SW) of the conifers just before you cross a stile into sheep pasture, if you dont you will enter gorse and bracken hell ! Is then straightforward around fields until gate that leads into pillar field.
2009-08-30 12:14 - TP6316 (Tan-Y-Foel)
Lovely spot, sadly mist was down so no views but the walking is quiet and the area is high on my list of great places to get away from it all. Parking v limited, best is a layby on the lhs 100 m before cottage if walking in from the S. There is no parking after the cottage and limited turning space (verified!!) The fenceline shown on Explorer to the N/ NW of pillar is actually just a few posts. Pillar in excellent condition on obvious high point.
2009-08-16 18:05 - TP6543 (Torry Hill Park)
Usual miles of lanes to access location. Done 100 miles with failed power steering so did battle with the lanes as I am stubborn and wanted one more find for the day! Pilar behind farm just into pasture.
2009-08-16 13:55 - TP5212 (Odiham Firs)
Easy find. Well walked. Power steering went on car as I turned round........bugger, tis a long way on to Kent without assistance!! Cest la vie. Pillar is good condition.
2009-08-16 13:10 - TP6673 (Upton Grey)
Nothing exciting to add. Gone.
2009-08-16 12:50 - TP3115 (Farleigh Hill)
Awkward. parking 200m away then down the hill.Visible through vegetation.
2009-08-16 12:29 - TP2885 (Dummer Clump)
2009-08-16 12:05 - TP3665 (Hatchwarren Lane)
Vastly overgrown,a real challemge in shorts! Just off road over gate with private sign on it.
2009-08-12 14:24 - TP1095 (Beacon Camp)
Excellent views. Quick trip from the good parking at the base. Pillar good.
2009-08-05 14:27 - TP5042 (Mynydd Varteg Fawr)
Very minor damage. Excellent views of the Beacons, blorenge and Skirrid. Views S to Severn Estuary. Nearby cairns and memorial. Pillar damage is limited to around the spider. Walked up from the road to the NE where there are several good parking spots.
2009-07-25 16:36 - TP4856 (Moel Fferna)
Re vist. Previously here on round of Welsh Hewitts 2005. Long gone but great location.
2009-07-25 13:45 - TP3286 (Gaerwen)
The easy way to this is to drive up the road until you meet the bridleway, then take gate 50m SW and straight uphill to pillar.... but that would be dull! Much better to park 400m SE, over fence, play hide and seek with a herd of cows and calves, wade into bracken...wade out agin and follow wall until you reach fence. Follow uphill then carefully negotiate fence and wall to get to pillar .....easy !!
2009-07-25 11:37 - TP4860 (Moel Morfydd)
Gets the 7 for the views. The approach is badly scarred by off roaders. Walk from due W at high point, followed track which links with the off roaders damaged track. The views stretch off to the NE with a wide scar of a track for 4x4 s. No would would think there are already hundreds of thousands of miles of roads for vehicles ( most so badly maintained that they are only suitable for 4x4s anyway!!) that they still have to drive up the hills.Anyway pillar is badly damaged with the flush half exposed.
2009-07-25 09:26 - TP5760 (Ruabon Mountain South)
Wonderful approach off the Offas Dyke Path, then lost path in the bracken. What followed would have been embarrassing if anyone had seen.... a grown man cursing and sweating his way through thigh high heather..only to re discover the path 50ft from the pillar. Bugger. Returned a different way but the paths are unclear so made a hash of that as well! Pillar is good, with excellent 360 views.
2009-07-20 10:26 - TP5008 (Mynydd Cenin)
Great views. Walk in on FP (no sign on ground) onto access land. Pillar good condition.
2009-07-20 09:37 - TP6421 (The Rivals)
Glorious location. Great walk with exceptional views. Had hoped during my couple of days up here that the top would be clear and for once the forecast was spot on! Pillar in good condition apart from the metal object inserted in the plug hole. Any ideas anyone? Views along the whole Lleyn Peninsular. Lovely.
2009-07-19 16:04 - TP1825 (Bwlch Mawr)
Lovely walk from the SE. Footpath then access land. Deceptively steep section if following wall. Great views to Anglesey. Pillar v good condition.
2009-07-19 15:04 - TP2783 (Dinas Dinlle)
2009-07-19 14:26 - TP6628 (Twt Hill)
Easy access from road to S. Great views of Castle.Pillar has some graffiti but not as bad as most town pillars.
2009-07-19 13:10 - TP5415 (Pen-Y-Graig)
Acess from FP. No views. In small area of woodland next to house.Pillar good condition.
2009-07-19 12:35 - TP2075 (Cefn Du)
Pile of bricks from ruined building piled against pillar.Condition otherwise v good. Short walk up from the SW on FP then fenceline to pillar.
2009-07-19 12:03 - TP4877 (Moel-Y-Tryfan)
Nice short walk in. Parking next to old quarry workings. Pillar on rocky outcrop. Good condition.
2009-07-19 11:15 - TP0520 (Caernarfon)
Behind farmyard. Access from E or W on RUPP.
2009-07-19 10:53 - TP5416 (Pen-Y-Groes)
Access from gate next to cemetary. Pillar good, overlooks horse paddocks.
2009-07-19 10:31 - TP2092 (Cefn-Uchaf)
Fenceline. Access from lane. Farmer has put fencing atop of gate but no real issue. Ok views. Pillar good condition.
2009-07-19 09:59 - TP5405 (Pen-Ychain)
Great views. Walk in from near railway station. FP goes through farmyard but seems more like holiday pad.Pillar good condition.
2009-07-18 15:27 - TP5669 (Rhyllech)
Gets the high score because I found it in summer!! What a pig. Only advice I can offer over what others have already given is wait until winter. Ok...more helpful advice... go to N end of layby and pillar is at 1 O Clock. Is really one of those that you have to persevere with. This was my second visit of the day, cost me 1x pair of torn trousers, 1x lost sunglasses and enough scratches to make me look like a vagabond in Asda Pwllheli !! The joys of trigpointing...at least I will not have to go back...unless......
2009-07-18 14:44 - TP5039 (Mynydd Tir-Y-Cwmwd)
Parking to the N on lane. Nice views. Pillar good.
2009-07-18 13:59 - TP1951 (Carn Fadryn)

2009-07-18 13:15 - TP5404 (Pen-Y-Bryn)
Lady at farm said that people used to visit often but no one since last year. Offered cup of tea and seemed glad to have someone to chat to. Been there since 1964 and had lots of stories to tell. Drive up, you will be welcome. Lovely views of my next pillar Carn Fadryn. Pillar v good condition in sheep pasture.
2009-07-18 12:44 - TP0169 (Rhiw)
Easy walk in from the SW. Great views. Pillar in good condition on rocky outcrop.
2009-07-18 12:44 - TP5009 (Mynydd Cilan)
Drive to within 200m. Nice small camp site near base. Good views. Pillar good.
2009-07-18 11:34 - TP5033 (Mynydd Penarfynydd)
Walked in from lane to the NE. Footpath goes through faryard but I dont like geese! Accessed over gate and fence 100m to the E.Ripped trousers on wire and wished had braved geese!! Pillar location and condition good.
2009-07-18 11:06 - TP5046 (Mynydd Ystum)
Walk in past barns to the SW through gate to reach access land. Cattle in field but went the other way. Lovely viws.Pillar very good.
2009-07-18 10:39 - TP5392 (Penrhyn Mawr)
Paid the £2.00 to drive through the farmyard and park above a lovely cove. Asked farmer for permission as met him on lane. Grumpy, but not really bothered!! Nice campsite adjacent.Pillar in good condition.
2009-07-18 10:07 - TP5007 (Mynydd Cefnamwlch)

Access from lane to the West, great views of Yr Eifl.
2009-07-10 14:55 - TP1734 (Bryn Ffynnon)
Another wonderful location in this quiet corner of Wales. Cycled in from the minor road due S of pillar on good forest track, then open hillside. Pillar 100 m from bridleway on acess land. Very good condition.
2009-07-10 13:05 - TP2504 (Craig Twrch)
Lovely location. Cycled in from the Abergwesyn mountain road past Llyn Y Gwaith, there is a firebreak that leads out onto the hillside 200m from the pillar. Pillar in good condition with expansive views.
2009-07-09 14:20 - TP2586 (Cribarth)
Parked in layby just S of Craig Y Nos on A4067. Familiar ground as my dad was evacuated to Ystradgynlais as a kid and remember visits down here from 25 years ago. Walk in on bridleway (notshown on map) . Ignore bridleway after 20m , continue on path, cross fence then straight uphill following fenceline. At high point take any of numerous paths going SE. Confusing hill in the mist. Today great views and perfect walking conditions.Pillar has some grafitti and cracks but otherwise not too bad condition.
2009-07-09 12:50 - TP0721 (Gareg Lwyd)
Third visit, first doing welsh hewitts and second when passing. Returned for photos. Expansive views.Pillar stone built. Remains of old pillar scattered amongst the rocks. Lovely location and the first time that I have been able to see more than 20ft!!
2009-07-09 11:24 - TP3106 (Fan Gihirych)
Wonderful walk up,managed to just say ahead of a group out of the Sennybridge traning camp but guess they did have bigger packs than me! But as most looked like they were about 20 think I did ok!! Pillar is badly damaged with a large chunk gone from the SE corner. Army checkpoint next to pillar and think they thought I was a bit odd, never mind. This was my third visit but had no photos.
2009-07-05 14:06 - TP2066 (Cefn)
Re visit for site photo. Great views, lovely location. The patch where the pillar should have stood has an obvious square of grass concurrent with a stone base. Searched surrounds again but without too much hope!
2009-06-19 13:38 - TP4654 (Marial Gwyn)
Another lovely location, spoilt by windfarm, but great place on edge of Clocaenog Forest.Good views. Pillar just on access land . easiest access from lane to the SE.Good condition.
2009-06-19 13:02 - TP3417 (Gorsedd Bran)
Gets a 9 only because I found it! Tried the obvious approach from the N, but after 30 minutes crawling around (literally) in the Stika and getting very frustrated I retreated to the car. Then decided to give another go. Easy option follows: Take track from minor road junction at approx SH963597, follow track for approx 400m, branch left then follow to high point. Path crosses a gravelled turning area with a rope strung above. 25ft past this there is a break in the trees ( only 1 treeline wide) at (logged) SH 96982 59600. Follow this break to the N for 200 m which leads to a clearing. Cross diagonally then push through 20ft of trees to acees clearing with pillar. I hate these and have nightmares about getting lost in the forest with no one looking for me....dont do what I do make sure someone knows where you are !Glad its one less forest one to confront.Pillar is good and protected.
2009-06-19 11:15 - TP4490 (Lletty-Yr-Eos)
Nice location, next to resevoir, on fenceline. Good views of Snowdonia. Pillar good condition.
2009-06-19 10:30 - TP2095 (Cefn-Yr-Ogof)
Bit of a pain. Accessed fromlane to the S at high point. V limited parking. Up bank, few fences then onto acess land. Superb views. Pillar good.
2009-06-19 10:05 - TP0175 (Pentrefail Crossroads)

2009-06-19 09:51 - TP0710 (Moelfre Isaf)
Great spot, lovely views. Pillar good.
2009-06-19 09:29 - TP2082 (Cefn Meiriadog)
Ignore the signs. This looks like a regularly used ROW.But if you do get shot I didnt just say that! Pillar at obvious high point, some views, kept location so is a managed area but all quiet today.Pillar v good condition.
2009-06-18 15:21 - TP4865 (Moel Tywysog)

2009-06-17 13:09 - TP2237 (Clocaenog)
Says on the board...excellent views from the monument....mmmmn not today..well could see trees twenty metres away but not sure if thats what they meant! Easy walk up from parking spot. Takes 3 times as long to drive to these places than to do the walk once you arrive! Pillar next to monument that gives info regarding the planting of the forest.Pillar is good condition.
2009-06-17 12:37 - TP3152 (Ffridd Fawr)
nice quiet location. Caught a sharp shower on the way back, camped up near Ruthin at great site.
2009-06-13 17:07 - TP5410 (Pen-Y-Ffrith)
Nice location, walked in from the N around fishing lake, no parking to the S (tried 18 mounths ago and failed). Pillar has rope attached. Watched 2 x Grebes on the lake upon return.
2009-06-13 13:55 - TP3746 (Hersedd)
Think I may have to concur with PhilPamAndRob. Made a mess of my map reading and walked past the apparent new site twice and saw nothing. Did not have benefit of knowing it was moved but this will go down as possibly missing until I am corrected .
2009-06-13 13:40 - TP5072 (Nerquis Mountain)
This one is now recumbent. Has been recent harvesting activity but no reason for that to have been a factor as immediate woodland is untouched.Nice easy access from North then a scramble across felling debris.
2009-06-13 10:00 - TP0178 (Plas-Yw)
Bugger. Hate these in summer. Had sketch and patience, lost the latter after 20 minutes. Site now looks like a herd of elephants has been through and still no find. Bugger.
2009-06-13 08:55 - TP0005 (Moel Fammau)
Absolutely lovely morning for re visiting this pillar, last seen when doing Offa s Dyke many years ago. Could see this from last nights campsite and had been looking forward to it. Pillar good.

2009-06-12 14:23 - TP4857 (Moel Gyw)
Parked at hotel to the N then follow Offas Path. Took wrong choice and opted for gung ho straight up approach through heather.....when will I learn! Please dont do this ,go around ! Is knee high and bloody hard work! Pillar...when you get there is good with stunning 360 views. Returned a different way!Just read Father Teds log.....great minds think alike !
2009-06-12 12:18 - TP4878 (Moel-Y-Waen)

2009-05-13 08:19 - TP5022 (Mynydd Llangynidr)
Re visit to photograph. Zero visibility, love this terrain in the fog! Only about 1 mile from the B4560 to the East but why does a mile seem like three when you can see Bu***r all!! Pillar good. Surprisingly limited views!!
2009-05-06 11:15 - TP4246 (Kipscombe Hill)
Walked up from the A39 where there is a handy little parking spot due S of pillar. Starting to rain again! Pillar in open pasture. Nice location . Pillar condition good.

Easy access offlane to the N. Still misty so limited views.
2009-05-05 14:26 - TP4165 (Kentisbury Down)
Pillar up on bank between 2 x new wire fences. Very misty and was half way across field when herd of cows loomed out of the mist running towards me. Outpaced them just but was not amused. Return trip was cat and mouse (cow) criss crossing hedges to avoid them ! Pillar good condition.
2009-05-05 14:01 - TP3967 (Holdstone Down)
Easy access and parking. No views, cloud back down. Pillar next to huge mound of rocks.
2009-05-05 12:14 - TP0268 (Bratton Down)
Took a bit of finding but got there in the end!
2009-05-05 11:58 - TP5964 (Shoulsbarrow Common)
Just into access land, there is a newgate being put in due South and another half way up hill which gives easy access. Misty, no views, Pillar over one fence on Castle? perimeter.
2009-05-05 11:37 - TP6837 (Western Common)
Weather now right down, visibility about 30m at best....lovely! Unusual location. Access land. Pillar on top of one of the barrows.
2009-05-05 11:15 - TP5166 (North Molton Ridge)
Park on road due S of pillar. Weather closing in. Accesss land . Pillar good condition.
2009-05-05 10:44 - TP1602 (Brayley Barton)
A bit awkward, approached from the lane to the North, gap in hedge, limited parking. Then sheep pasture for 3 fields. In sight of smallholding first 200m.Pillar good shape.
2009-05-05 10:23 - TP4085 (Hutcherton Down)
Eventually found after walking 2 hedgelines and then crawling through hedge. There has to be an easier way !!Pillar good condition.
2009-05-05 09:43 - TP4576 (Loxhore)
Foggy morning so was shrouded from view! Accessed from West over couple of high hedges. Pillar on raised bank, had no means of digging out flush.
2009-05-04 16:31 - TP5134 (No Mans Land)
Middle of arable field dodgy parking to the west. Ok views, pillar on large plinth.
2009-05-04 15:52 - TP0965 (Baggy Point)
Pleasant walk spoilt by the £4.00 car park charge at the bottom! Pleaded my case for a 30min visit but to no avail, but she was pretty so couldnt be annoyed! Nice spot, pillar is wrong side f wall and evidence of less than carefull traverses so maybe they charged me so much to afford the wall repairs!!! Pillar stone built and in good shape with NT plaque.
2009-05-04 15:09 - TP3000 (Eastacott Hill)
Lovely views over Woolacombe. Access from the SW on footpath then field. Quiet location, pillar leaning slightly.
2009-05-04 14:57 - TP0266 (Willingcott)
If looking for this, it is 2(short)wooden posts to the right of the sign. My GPS was showing at least 10ft away and was lucky kick and perseverence thatlocated it!.
2009-05-04 13:39 - TP3827 (Higher Slade)
Easy access from S on Bridleway/Footpath then field edge. Pretty good views of Ilfracombe ( which could do with a revamp!..been 20 years since I was last here and its starting to look tired!)
2009-05-04 12:40 - TP1333 (Berry Down)
Goes down in memory only because I visited twice! Thought had lost sunglasses so retraced steps only to be chased by cattle ( escaped by climbing fence and walking bank above non plussed heffers!) found sunglasses in their case in the car......bugger. Pillar on stone plinth in v good shape.
2009-05-04 11:45 - TP6779 (Waytown)
Access from the West on RUPP then across field. Weather starting to close in again.........anyone would think it a bank holiday! Pillar good condition.
2009-05-04 11:06 - TP2320 (Codden Hill)
In the area! Worth a visit for the location.
2009-05-04 10:32 - TP4048 (Huish Moor)

2009-05-04 10:06 - TP2177 (Churchcombe)

2009-05-03 17:25 - TP0535 (Countisbury)

2009-05-03 13:30 - TP5779 (Rydon Hill)
Park on corner above sinking close coppice. Overgrown access but great views of Watchet.Pillar good condition.
2009-03-23 16:32 - TP5110 (Newforest)
Close to house and farm, looked for someone to ask but no joy. Easy acces off the lane to the North just 2 gates. Some views but didnt linger. Pillar in good condition. My final log from Explorer 151.
2009-03-23 15:32 - TP5034 (Mynydd Portreff)
Gets a high score because it was pillar number 2000 !! I didnt know that at the time or may have had a small celebration....maybe will do that at 3000.Pillar in good condition, drive to within half a mile. Good views.
2009-03-23 14:54 - TP5047 (Mynydd-Y-Gaer)
Short approach from the S with ok parking. Views good but weather closing. This replacement pillar is in good condition with the original lying nearby. Not sure what it is with these folks down here but they really have taken fly tiping to a new level.....literally!
2009-03-22 11:13 - TP6519 (Ton-Fanau)
Lovely views tricky ascent! Approached on a footpath through the quarry that soon disappeared on the ground! manufactured a way through the fields and fences and eventually popped out at the edge of the quarry with the pillar 50 ft away. Return the same route but sure there are better approaches. Superb views, pillar stone built and in good condition.Agree with previous logs the bridleway best option. Quarrying seems to be in a more northerly direction so hopefully pillar will survive albeit only 20ft from edge at present.
2009-03-22 09:35 - TP5372 (Pengarn)
Gets a seven as imagine views must be superb, sadly caught early morning mist so visibility down to 30m. Tought it would be easiest to walk in from N off end of track, was straightforward enoughbut there are at least 7 gates to open and close both ways which gets a bit tedious!! There are plenty of options for this pillar and may well return when time allows as this is a quiet corner of a busy area. Pillar stone built and in excellent condition.
2009-03-21 12:05 - TP3217 (Foel Ispri)
Stonebuilt pillar with glorious views. Had just done Cadair so was feeling lazy and opted to drive as close as I could! There is a good road ( 2x gates) from the SW which leads to within a quarter of a mile, then it is open ground to the pilar. Just off "New Precipice Walk".
2009-03-21 09:35 - TP1839 (Cader Idris)
Latest of 4 visits but this one ws for sole purpose of visiting trigpoint. Walked up from Minffordd on usual track (parking £4.00 !!) then the scree slope from NE side of Llyn Cau. Lovely morning and summit to myself. Met the crowds on the way down !
2009-02-17 14:15 - TP2823 (Down End Farm)
This was a bit awkward,in the end I just climbed fence, in sight of house and farmyard and walked over ploughed field to pilar. No shouts so guess got away with it! Pillar is good condition.
2009-02-17 13:37 - TP6323 (Tarrant Launceston)
Pleasant walk to this one. No sign of pillar at given grid, photo is site only.Had a good look in the small copse that is near but found no sign. The obvious high point is 40ft across the field where there is an interesting mound of earth ,this is actually a buried tank though with no evidence of pillar remains.
2009-02-17 12:31 - TP6364 (The Cliff)
Pillar about 20ft from road, good views. Met guy with metal detector who gave me what he claimed to be a piece of ancient lead shot... might be,might not be! Pillar in v good condition.
2009-02-17 11:55 - TP2102 (Chalbury Hill)
No sign of pillar, found marker but think this has to go down as definately gone.
2009-02-17 11:29 - TP0740 (Bull Barrow)
Short walk from due S on ROW.Quiet location. Pillar in good condition surrounded by gorse.
2009-02-17 10:55 - TP5230 (Olivers House)
NO one at house but previous logs appear to cnfirm that this one is gone.
2009-02-17 10:25 - TP0538 (Wimborne)
Slightly overgrown. Parked outside old garages as GPS pointed 10m down private drive. FBM is in railings just past garages on ROW.
2009-02-17 09:55 - TP0349 (Cowgrove)
Found after a short search,GPS is close but was buried even in winter. Outside house but no one home.
2009-02-17 09:02 - TP6096 (Spettisbury Ring)
Parked to the SE footpath goes direct to pillar which is in good condition. Nice location.
2009-02-17 08:10 - TP0960 (Badbury Rings)
Impressive site.No access for dogs to pillar for some reason.Ok views.Pillar condition good.
2009-02-15 13:22 - TP2252 (Clyncae)
Fine summit with stone cairn sheltering stone built pillar. In good condition. Expansive views over to Eppynt ranges. Access from S park where forestry meets A483.the summit area is now clear felled so the access off the track is open and easy. Follow fenceline then cross near pillar. This is a wonderful area that deserves much more time spent on it than the fleeting visits I seem to make.
2009-02-14 16:35 - TP5032 (Mynydd Pen Carreg)
Easy acess, follow minor road then drive up to mast compound. There is a stile to the W of the compound that leads into the field with the pillar. Pillar in good condition in sheep pasture. Views possibly good but v misty today.
2009-02-14 15:13 - TP2096 (Cellan Mountain)
Access from the SW at spot height 312. Out of sight but open ground. Pillar is marked as on a fenceline but this has all but disappeared. Probably nice views but limited to 50ft today. Pillar in good condition.
2009-02-14 14:20 - TP1843 (Cae-Iago)
Took direct approach from the NWW where a permissive path leaves the lane. This tracks around the hill and passes within 20ft of the pillar. Pillar in good condition. No views as very misty.
2009-02-14 13:15 - TP1727 (Bryn Brawd)
This had been on my list for a while so good to finally tick it off. Access from the SW on forrest track for 1.5km then minor track through tress to the East. Once out of forrest follow bearing to pillar. Ground surprisingly good for the area. Misty no views. Pillar in good condition in this quiet corner of Wales.
2009-02-01 16:02 - TP3079 (Etchilhampton Hill)
Revisit to photograph.
2009-02-01 14:55 - TP2021 (Castle Ditches)
Walked in from the W on FP, good parking at high point of lane near mobile mast. Skirt wood then use track into inner area. Cross to NE side and pillar 50m from treeline. Leaning slightly but ok otherwise.
2009-02-01 14:02 - TP6271 (Sutton Down)
Drive up Byway to 300m S of North Way farm, parking where track branches R. Walked in past shoot party who then proceeded to refuse to allow me to return the same way as they were shooting across the path and the drove.......great! The beaters did send a fox out 20ft in front of me which took my attention away from the 2 mile detour I had to do to get back to my car! Pillar in pasture 20ft from track and in good shape.
2009-02-01 12:45 - TP5280 (Pale Ash)
Figure this is easier in winter than summer.Through hedge from field as track on my Explorer doesnt really exist on the ground. It is possible to drive two thirds of the way, take track towards Crouchestone Farm just past Wessex Raceway if travelling East on A354, follow up until you meet byway where there is ample parking. Pillar is good.
2009-02-01 12:18 - TP5397 (Pentridge Hill)
Nice pleasant walk up from Pentridge on FP from the NW. Pillar in open woodland.Good condition.
2009-02-01 11:15 - TP5087 (New Barn Farm)
Walked in on footpath from the NE, suggest bridleway may be better option as pillar NW side of hedge.Barely visible from SW side even in winter.
2009-02-01 10:45 - TP0739 (Gussage Hill)
Entered field with pillar about 20 seconds before shoot party arrived and asked me what the hell I was doing, when I explained they looked a bit bemused but mollified enough to let me carry on and take pictures. Unfortunately dropped dog lead and didnt notice till I was half way back to car. So if you are reading this there is a free lead on offer!! Parking to the NW then ROW. Pillar good.
2009-02-01 10:10 - TP1778 (Burnbake)
Park to East.is possible to drive 400m up byway if required, leave byway at "new barn" then cross stubble field. Pillar next to shoot paraphanalia.Good condition.
2009-02-01 09:35 - TP3583 (Hambledon Hill)
Short walk from E on Stour Valley Way. Good views.
2009-02-01 09:15 - TP4764 (Melbury Hill)
In good condition apart from the top. Apears to have had a toposcope attached at some point ,now missing............still a much better idea than the morons that gave the go ahead to demolish Brown Clee pillar in Shropshire.
2009-02-01 08:40 - TP6771 (Watermans Field)
Covered in ivy.Accessed from lane to W. Cross open field then through hedge, played cat and mouse with farmer out shooting .....great fun ...not.
2009-02-01 08:25 - TP7062 (Woolbury Ring)
Next to ROC post. Park to the SW cross access land then a strange high barbed fence.
2009-02-01 07:25 - TP2197 (Clare Hill)
Revisit to photograph.
2009-01-26 13:34 - TP1805 (Burton Hill)
Pleasant but muddy walk from the East, might be an alternative...if longer route as the parking is good and there is no ascent. Revist as visiting parents and needed some space!! Pllar condition unchanged.
2009-01-25 13:22 - TP4487 (Llechwedd Mawr)
Lovely walk in from the SW, drive through Cwm Llinau, follow road past caravan park until it branches left. Park at junction by footpath leading S. Follow lane to the N ,through gate then up valley. At a point where the path kinks head straight uphill through gate. Excellent views of Cadair Idris and the Arans. Great location. Pillar in good condition near edge of plantation.
2009-01-25 11:03 - TP4855 (Moel Eiddew)
Short sharp walk up from the SW. part Glyndwrs Way (nice to re walk this as did the path back in 2003) part open hillside. Fine expansive views. Many marked paths do not exist on the ground which is typical for Mid Wales, but had friendly wave from farmer when returning to car so he was not concerned that I was not on a waymarked route.
2009-01-22 14:23 - TP3069 (Esgair Cerig)
Short walk but very hard going. Typical tussocky ground for the area. Boggy ankle twisting material. I approached from the NW,where the road enters the forest to the North there is a track that leads of south. Take this for approx 1km and there is a pull in on your left where a firebreak will take you out onto the hillside. From there it is every man/woman for themselves! No tracks and hideous bog took me 45 minutes to cover 1.5km. There might be easier ways but dont intend returning to find them!! Pillar in lovely isolation with fine views.Nice quiet location.
2009-01-22 11:31 - TP2710 (Cwm-Irfon)
One of the nasties that I had still to log in this area!Parked up to the NE 300m up forest track that leads to Pwll y Bo. Folow track for 2kms,with good views both down into the valley and back to Drygarn.Follow the track until you reach a firebreak heading NW (edge of mature trees)then take this for approx 250m untill you reach high point on track . Force passage into trees to L to reach small clearing. Cross and pillar is 4ft into trees. Pillar is in good condition, protected from nature by forest.
2009-01-20 15:45 - TP7433 (Warminster )
In town so revisited to photograph.
2009-01-20 15:10 - TP4444 (Little Hill)
Re visit to photograph.
2009-01-20 14:38 - TP6273 (Sutton Hill)
Easy find in winter. Hedgerow and laneside.
2009-01-20 14:15 - TP2993 (East Orchard)
Access from lane to N. Through scrubland, across field above farm. Currently on edge of maize field with feed bins around. All quiet today. Pillar low in ground but ok.
2009-01-20 13:50 - TP5549 (Pyt House)
Nice location, easy find just10m off lane on ROW.
2009-01-20 13:15 - TP6500 (Tittle Path Hill)
Edge of woodland, just off bridleway. Walk in from SW. No views, pillar on large plinth.
2009-01-20 12:35 - TP6593 (Trow Down)
Walked in from SW n Ox Drove. Muddy. Just after I left track to cross field farmer pulled up, watched me visit pillar and then drove off....was expecting an earfull! Pillar fine but leaning a little ,remains of deer carcass next to it.
2009-01-20 11:45 - TP6899 (White Sheet Hill)
Drive to within 200m,rough track. Pillar good condition 8m from fence.
2009-01-20 11:15 - TP0738 (Wingreen)
Pleasant short walk from parking spot. Good clear views.
2009-01-20 10:53 - TP0295 (Ludwell)
Easy find in short grass.
2009-01-16 14:08 - TP5412 (Pen-Y-Garn Goch)
Same approach at Sagina nivalis, from east on forest track.(approx SN892504 with good parking) This is not marked on OS but v clear on Satelite images, what is not clear is the fact that on these images it looks like clear fall but is in fact as previous visitor says 15ft conifers and densly packed. I had a couple of aborted atempts from due South of pillar with GPS showing approx 100m but didnt manage 20. Evenually retreated and followed track to the N of pillar location, there is a point off this track at SN88462 50344 where you only have about 15ft of trees to pass through to acess clearing. I wont make claims for accuracy of grid as the trees will start to interfere with readings as they get taller, but should be pretty close. Pilar had some views but these will disappear with time as the trees grow. Weather closing quickly so headed back same way. Pillar condition is good, low in the ground but guess has been protected by forest on and off over the years!
2009-01-15 13:16 - TP1701 (Brown Clee Hill)
Opted for this as had not visited since learning of its demise at the hands of misinformed idiots. Thought I had better view before commenting. An act of vandalism in my opinion, little people wasting money. I suspect half are outsiders and half never visit here... but at least it gave them something to put in the council minutes and tell their friends. I suppose to some degree the hill was already spoilt by the aerials, but whoever thinks knocking something down just for the hell of it when it has been there for years needs to get out a bit more. Why could they not just build a Toposcope next to it?? View is good even on a claggy day. 18-5-2009,Must say am surprised by frenziedfrog not being bothered about the dissappearence of the trigpoint...seems to defeat the object of trigpointing to me ,why dont we just knock the whole bloody lot down and replace them with toposcopes! Didnt say they should not built a toposcope, actually think they very useful and informative, said they could build one as well as there is enough space.
2009-01-14 14:59 - TP5402 (Pen-Y-Beacon)
This is my closest decent hill pillar, always nice for a quick revisit to clear the cobwebs! Grey cold and zero views but still worth the effort.
2009-01-08 14:25 - TP5307 (Park Field)
Re visit to photograph. Condition unchanged.
2009-01-08 13:54 - TP6498 (Titterstone Clee)
Re visit to photograph. Lovely views with some impressive cloud inversion between Titterstone and Brown Clee.
2009-01-07 15:53 - TP1900 (Cannington Park)
Parked to the South then straight up to pillar. Lots of "dead" clays around. Saw plenty of pheasants and a Buzzard drifted off from a tree near pillar. Good views and pillar in good condition.
2009-01-07 15:33 - TP0281 (Wall Common)
Two thirds buried but otherwise an easy find! Good views of Hinkley power station.
2009-01-07 14:33 - TP4220 (Kings)
Walk up from the South on footpath, then skirt field edge. Shoot area. Pillar on large plinth 20m from field edge.

Easy find just inside field. Nice area.
2009-01-07 13:53 - TP1747 (Buckland Hill)
Park in gateway 100m E of footpath. follow for 200m then west across field to pillar. Edge of small copse not shown on my Explorer map. Pillar on huge plinth. Good condition.
2009-01-07 13:38 - TP0276 (Woodford Farm)
Took a while to unearth and had to download sketch to mobile. Left clear but not sure how long it will stay this way.
2009-01-07 12:58 - TP2678 (Culmstock Beacon)
Excellent views. Ice covered lane up made for interesting parking. Pillar has 4 info boards attached. Nice quiet location.
2009-01-07 12:27 - TP5679 (Ridgewood Hill)
Huge plinth,in hedgeline.Good condition.
2009-01-07 11:54 - TP1405 (Black Down)
Near a campsite I stayed at on previous visit. Easy find, walk 100m along bridleway then take track to the left. Pillar is 40m on LHS.
2009-01-07 11:24 - TP4574 (Lowmans Farm)
Re visit to photograph. This one requires a crawl through the hedge to get flush and is definately best left for winter months!
2009-01-07 11:01 - TP0734 (Dumpdon)
My 2000th trigpoint log (1948th Pillar) and its a revisit! Lovely location though. Icy lanes from Honiton. Pillar condition unchanged.
2009-01-07 10:22 - TP3744 (Herne Hill)
Pleasant walk up through woods. Pillar on edge of wood with good views. Counted 4x Wessex helicopters up practising .
2009-01-07 10:01 - TP6197 (Stocklinch)
Up on a bank, probably easier to find/ photo in winter.
2009-01-07 09:35 - TP2163 (Chinnock Hill)
Park by bungalows in West Chinook, new steps and gate lead to field then 1 fence to pillar which is in good condition.
2009-01-07 08:44 - TP1598 (Bratton Hill)
Good parking by footpath to the S then 1 x gate. Frosty views and black ice on the road!
2009-01-07 08:27 - TP6970 (Windmill Farm)
Park in gateway to field. Pillar in adjacent field but all quiet.Nice frosty views.
2009-01-03 17:10 - TP2404 (Copse House)
Dodgy evening visit on a busy road. Searched field above first before braving roadside! Good condition given proximity to traffic.
2009-01-03 16:44 - TP2974 (East Farm)
Nice easy find, park on lane, up over fence and follow fenceline to pillar. Lovely sunset. Pillar good condition.
2009-01-03 16:08 - TP0536 (Thornford)
Nearly buried, lucky find in gathering gloom!
2009-01-03 15:45 - TP2334 (Coker Hill)
A tight squeeze under fence off lane. Attracted some looks when stepped back onto lane in front of a couple out dog walking!
2009-01-03 15:20 - TP3586 (Hamdon Hill)

Easy find,short grass!
2009-01-03 12:03 - TP0282 (Melcombe)
Same as previous visitors, had a good look but sure this has gone.
2009-01-03 11:01 - TP4075 (Huntspill)
Absolute pain . Approache from the East is not viable. The farm has erected fences everywhere regardless of lawful rights of way.The bridge over a drainage ditch is nothing more than a plank that creaks as soon as you put weight on it! Could see no access under M5 either so retraced and accessed from the West.
2009-01-01 16:45 - TP3825 (Higher Oborne)
Easy to miss in the dark, resorted to GPS when couldnt locate. Up in hedge FB faces road.
2009-01-01 16:04 - TP6599 (Tuckers Cross)
Middle of (frozen) arable field. Easy access off ROW. Nearly dark and becoming foggy and cold. Pillar is in good condition.
2009-01-01 14:55 - TP0284 (Seavington St Michael)
Logged for completeness. Dull, but good excuse to get the flaskout and have a break.
2009-01-01 13:40 - TP3848 (Hill Barton)
Photo from bridge.Condition given is from previous logs.
2009-01-01 13:17 - TP5282 (Panorama)
Found after false start up parallel track to private house. Pillar still has v v tasteful horses head on top (cant see a horses head and not think of the Godfather!)
2009-01-01 13:02 - TP5547 (Pynes Hill)
Easy find in winter. Park in large gateway off Ludwell lane to the NE.This appears to be local dog walking area with no access problems at all. Pillar is over 1 fence. Good views of Exeter and bus overhead from the nearby airport.
2009-01-01 11:15 - TP2438 (Corton Hill)
Re visit to photograph, pillar condition unchanged, good views
2009-01-01 11:00 - TP0290 (Blackford)
Easy find with sketch, photos show location.
2009-01-01 09:00 - TP1872 (Caldicot Moor)
Buried, just top couple of inches showing (maybe someone will dig it out one day?) Walked in from just past M Way bridge (police speed van on bridge over M4 and hidden from traffic below behind sign the crafty bugger!)See no reason why you cant drive to this one ...the S Wales formation fly tippers have been out in force ( I swear there is no part of the UK that suffers the level of illegal dumping that S Wales does,I counted 4 wheels,2x televisions 1 x Fridge and half a fitted kitchen and that was without looking too hard!) Add to this more manic dogs than you could shake a stick at and a pillar you can barely see this one is for the completists I think!
2009-01-01 08:35 - TP2365 (Coltshay Hill)
Easy find, go through first gate on L after entering lane. Ok views but claggy today. Pillar is good, fb faces fence but been cleared for easy access.
2008-12-28 15:08 - TP3656 (Hartridge Farm)
Middle of arable field, newly sown but with good tram lines so access ok. Decent views with 2 x red kite overhead. Pillar is in good condition.
2008-12-26 16:16 - TP1360 (Billhill)
Had no joy either, dusk was falling but there was no sign of a pillar. This was my final pillar "to do" on Explorer 159 so a bit disappointing.
2008-12-26 15:55 - TP3709 (Heckfield Heath)
Park opposite near monument, the gap under fence is easy even after Christmas Day and Boxing Day lunches! No view but pillar in good shape.
2008-12-26 15:15 - TP3818 (Highbury)
Easier than anticipated but only due to the fact that the horse owners were not around! Accessed from the S on ROW then up field and across 2x paddocks. Good views of Reading. Pillar is good.
2008-12-25 12:38 - TP0445 (The Leacon)
Drew a blank with this, had no sketch and was rushing back to other halfs family for lunch! Will try again on next visit. Edit 16/9/2009 found easily under brick.
2008-12-17 15:35 - TP2071 (Cefn Cilsanws)
Lovely walk and surroundings. Parked up atgolf course and followed edge of nature reserve till it clears golf course then acoss to the pillar. Next to largestone shelter. Pillar is in good condition with extensive views of all the main peaks in this area of the Brecon Beacons.
2008-12-17 12:30 - TP5044 (Mynydd Y Glog)
Lovely walk in quiet Beacons surroundings. Boggy start from the NW on permissive path that by- passes farm.Steady climb up slope then follow the ridge with good views. Pillar near stone shelter. Extensive surface cracks on all faces mean it goes down as damaged.
2008-12-16 13:10 - TP4023 (Horsenden Hill)
Tried to walk in from Tetsworth but didnt have map so dipped out and trid from the east. Pillar in hedge. Still misty so limited views.
2008-12-16 11:10 - TP4029 (Horton)
Walkied in from Horton-cum-Studley on footpath through West Hill farm. Pillar easily accessible. No views all foggy. Pillar in good condition in sheep feld.
2008-12-16 10:20 - TP7430 (Elsfield Resr)
Easily found given dals description and photos.Nothing more useful to add.
2008-12-16 09:54 - TP4387 (Leafield Clump)
Re visit to photograph. Foggy conditions but no cattle today.
2008-12-16 09:00 - TP7432 (Newbury Road)
Logged for completeness. Directions given by dal are goodhad no trouble finding.
2008-12-09 11:07 - TP5019 (Mynydd Llangattwg)
Pleasant short walk up from the N. Excellent views. Caught a snow shower on the way back. Pillar in good condition.
2008-12-08 14:11 - TP3215 (Foel Goch)
Gets a 7 because I know the views are lovely really because I visited this pillar during my round of the Welsh Hewitts a few years back. Today was a stinker,20m visibility and driving rain.Had planned a longer walk but opted for a short circular from the South taking in the pillar. pillar condition good ,next to Boundary marker. Some snow still lying.
2008-12-06 14:02 - TP2866 (Drygarn)
This was my third visit to this top,but the first since I have been trigpointing, so required another walk to take photos. Opted for an approach from the SW as 2 previous visits have been from the NE.Parked just before Devils Staircase it is then a straightforward climb up open hillside to gain a forestry track through wood. Then headed out across hill to intercept bridleway that leads to summit. Even though part frozen this is still wet ground but I think slightly less than the approach from Pen Y Gorllwyn. Pillar has surface damage near spider but otherwise is ok. Lovely area which must rank as one of the quietest walking spots in Wales. Wonderful.
2008-12-05 14:30 - TP1989 (Carnedd Wen)
Had planned to visit this one for a while but always put it off as the open hills appeal more than forestry. It looked as if it could be a bit awkward and had toyed with different approaches. In the end settled for a walk in from the North East off A458 (great biking road by the way!)from SH949129 you drop down to a ford which could be a problem after heavy rain, was about 8" deep today but surprisingly strong as the spaniel discovered ! The path then leads onto open hillside for approx 2km then into forest, from here is quite straightforward, the OS mapping is good. The views from the pillar are limited but ok. Best ones are from the walk in ,today had snow dusted Dovey Hills to look over.Very pleasant place and,for forestry land quite enjoyable.Pillar is to SW side of mast just at tree line.In very good condition .
2008-11-28 15:10 - TP6555 (Town Hill)
Re visit to photograph. Pillar condition unchanged. Excellent views, good easy access park near castle then bridleway.
2008-11-28 11:50 - TP3149 (Ffinnant)
Re visit to photograph Approached from the NW,parking same as Rhayader Wanderer. Pleasant stroll and able to make a circular route with no trouble. Views over the windfarm and Pegwn Mawr that I visited a few days ago. There is a Mobile phone mast/compound just over fence from the pillar that I do not recall from my earlier visit, but maybe age is catching up with my memory!
2008-11-27 14:14 - TP0792 (Adzor Bank)
Re visit to photograph.Good views, but fully in sight of farm below.Pillar condition unchanged. The PROW mentioned by rhayader Wanderer does not appear to be marked up yet,and as this may only take you part way an easier route is off thelane due N,skirting the small copse. This is out of sight all the way to the pillar.
2008-11-26 15:30 - TP6637 (Tyddyn-Amlwg)
This was another one that had been down for a visit for a while but not got around to it. I think there may be access for vehicles so as you can drive to,but decided I needed the exercise so cycled in from the NE,lanes give way to good forest tracks. There has been some clearing near the pillar which itself still stands surrounded by a few conifers. Thee are much harder forest ones to locate than this one,and it is easier than the map suggests.Pillar in good condition.the views are limited from the pillar itself, but good from back on the forrest roads.
2008-11-25 12:53 - TP5341 (Pegwn Mawr)
Sited in the middle of what was(and may still be) the largest windfarm in Europe. Expansive 360 views including a snowy Cadair Idris. Walked a circular route from Bryn Dadlau to the NE.The pillar is badly damaged at the top with the spider nearly completely exposed. This was also my final pillar in a 50km radius from my home co ordinates.
2008-11-24 15:01 - TP6416 (The Riddox)
One of only two that I have not visited within 50 mile radius of homeso was pleased to get this one! Tried to get permission but no one(apart from dogs) at home. Approached from East across fields but didnt fancy entering garden(braving said dogs!) so took picture from fenceline.
2008-11-24 14:10 - TP0862 (Apostles Farm)
Revisit to photograph. Condition unchanged, field less muddy. Good views.
2008-11-24 12:25 - TP6253 (Summercourt Farm)
Revisit to photograph. Condition unchanged.Field full of lively but v friendly bullocks.
2008-11-23 15:50 - TP6730 (Ward Hill)
Re visit to photograph. No change from first visit.
2008-11-18 15:30 - TP1467 (Blaen Cwm)
Surprisingly pleasant location with better views than the map suggested. Accessed from the end of minor road due East(the road down to the carpark at the bridge mentioned by other visitors is badly damaged and probably accesible by 4x4 only.Parking at top available). ROW then forrest tracks to pillar. pillar has wire looped between hooks but otherwise in fine shape.
2008-11-18 13:29 - TP2000 (Carreg Fawr Hill)
Pleasant walk up from the SW on permissive pathe just where (felled)woodland ends. Up the slope then handrail the edge then fence to pilar.Fine views pilar in good condition.
2008-11-18 12:14 - TP1838 (Cader Fawr)
Re visit to photograph. The condition remains unchanged the slight cracks do not appear to have worsened since my previous visit. Excellent views ,same simple approach from the A4059 as before.
2008-11-16 15:00 - TP4868 (Moel Y Llyn)
Lovely walk in from the SE. Parked along track that leads to Anglers retreat then across hill and handrail fence to pillar for ease of navigation. Weather cleared just after I reached pillar with glorious views 360. pillar in good condition within stone shelter.Drove back home via Devils Bridge/Cymystwyth and Elan Valley - one of my favourite routes.
2008-11-16 12:50 - TP4994 (Myhecin Forest)
Revisit to photograph. Walked in from the East on lane then ROW. Quiet, unspoilt and scenic. Weather could have been better but tis Wales! Pillar condition remains unchanged with the same access into the fencedcompound as before (ie a hole cut big enough to just walk in! ) Pillar protected from worst of conditions by trees. My original photo shows pillar leaning badly....it isnt,I just must have had a few too many the night before.
2008-11-04 15:14 - TP1840 (Cae Tack)
Re visit to photograph.Short muddy walk from the North.Grey and misty limited views.
2008-11-03 14:12 - TP1837 (Cader Berwyn)
Had visited these hills in 2003 whilst completing a round of the Welsh Hewitts,so I was looking forward to my day. Walked in from the waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr via Llyn Lluncaws, continued past pillar to take in Cadair Bronwen, then retraced steps to Moel Sych and the permissive path back to the falls. Weather superb, clear blue skies and warm (for November!)sun, with the tops of Snowdonia poking through the valley cloud. Great walking with snow drfts still lingering.Pillar is quite damaged on the top but otherwise in good condition.
2008-11-02 15:01 - TP1429 (Black Mixen)
Re visit to photograph. Continuation from Badland hill, more snow filled paths but a lovely area that is often overlooked for more popular locations.Scenery is good, not dramatic ,but well worth the effort.
2008-11-02 14:15 - TP0963 (Badland Hill)
Re visit to photograph. Have visited this point on many occasions but had no photos. Grey day but high cloud meant some views. The snowfall from earlier in the week had left some drifts up to 18"deep which for October weather is uite unusual! Pleasant circular walk from New Radnor taking in the trigpoint at Black Mixen and the distinctive Whimble.
2008-10-23 11:55 - TP6778 (Wavering Down)
Lovely location ,quiet today but guess its not always like this! Excellent views to Glastonbury etc.
2008-10-23 11:10 - TP1472 (Blagdon)
Pleasant walk from the East, good parking at the Radio masts.Nice views.Pillar good.
2008-10-22 11:49 - TP6469 (Thruxton Down)
Plenty of Private signs here, and obviously a big shoot area. All quiet today so put my head down and walked uphill.Arrived to find 7ft sweetcorn and was a lucky guess when I walked into it and found pillar in small clearing.
2008-10-22 11:28 - TP5551 (Quarley Camp)
Very pleasant location with extensive views.Approached from SE up field edge, cross path (ignoring Private no access sign) then straight up to pillar.Pillar is badly cracked around flush bracket height.
2008-10-22 10:51 - TP6199 (Stoke)
In the middle of horse paddocks.Approached out of sight from the SE corner over small stile.Pillar good.Looking at the other pictures it looks as if these paddocks are relatively new.
2008-10-22 10:13 - TP6312 (Tangley Clump)
Followed By way then field edge.Newly sown field but crop only just showing and able to follow tractor lines to pillar which is near small copse.
2008-10-22 09:38 - TP3240 (Fosbury Camp)
Approached from due south on lane, edge of field then steep access land.4 Red Kite circling overhead and a Sparrowhawk seen on return.Pillar has pleasant location and good panorama.

Easy find,20ft across field.Pillar good condition nice views.
2008-10-22 08:43 - TP6857 (Wexcombe Down)
Walked up from the SE on bridleway, first ground frost of the year that I have seen.Lovely sunrise.Pillar just into field of cows and calves but for once gave me no trouble.Pillar good condition.
2008-10-21 16:05 - TP6132 (St Mary Hill)
Gets a 7 because as the last pillar of a really bad day it was a godsend! Easy parking ,a walk for the dog and simple access with views.Pillar good.
2008-10-21 15:35 - TP0627 (Cowbridge FBM Aux 1)
I believe this has now gone.I had sketch and photos from previous visit (2005) and found a "Bernsten"sized hole in exactly the right place............but I was having a particularly bad day so will go with "Possibly Missing" ! Congrats to Captain Gore-Tex, now I must return! I did say I was having a bad day!!
2008-10-21 15:30 - TP7185 (Cowbridge)

2008-10-21 12:20 - TP5999 (Sker Farm)
There is now a large earth embankmment, man made where the pillar should be located. Possibly missing for good.
2008-10-21 12:10 - TP0270 (Kenfig)
Am not convinced this has gone, uncovered a large concrete area in the right place but admittedly didnt locate rivet.May be worth another visit.
2008-10-21 11:00 - TP4161 (Kenfig Burrows)
Had hopes of finding this half buried but no joy! Sort of scenic walk if you enjoy that sort of view.
2008-10-20 14:46 - TP5016 (Mynydd Fforest)
Pleasant walk despite rain. Re visit to photograph.
2008-10-19 16:24 - TP5285 (Pant-Y-Cerig)
Last of the day, approached from SE,gate that I crossed confused me as it had a post box attached then saw a cabin hidden by trees that are not marked on the Explorer map, that person is living my dream!! Gave a wide berth so as not to worry them. Crossed 2 x fields and Fences.pillar in V rough pasture but a lovely location.Pillar good condition.
2008-10-19 15:45 - TP5293 (Parc)
Walked in on Byway to the South, then across 2x fields.Out of sight but field had 4 v v lively bullocks in that came to say hello and then chased me out!Pillar on plinth with nice pleasant views.

2008-10-19 14:02 - TP2699 (Cwm)
Superb views and pleasant walk in. After the last pillar I decided to ask permission as paranoia had crept in that my movements were being relayed by some secret Welsh Farmer messaging system ! Anyway asked permission and was told I was at the wrong farm ...DOH! But also told that the farmer at the right farm always had a nap in the afternoon and maybe I could come back later .....DOH! Then informed there was a bull in the field .....maybe ... and if I came vback tomorrow the farmer would maybe put the bull away for me,I pointed out that I lived 95 miles away and he relented, told me to ignore the bull, dont worry about permission and then gave me directions! hurrah! Icould have got to the bloody thing in the time it took him to explain everything! But in fairness he was helpful, if you want to ask permission the correct farmer is at Pen-yr-allt, if you dont just go along FP to the East till out of sight and is not a problem to make way to pillar.
2008-10-19 13:27 - TP5358 (Pen Lan)
Gets a 7 because it was memorable for all the wrong reasons!Parked to the NE where my Explorer shows a footpath and walked in to pillar off it,returned to car to find bloke in Frontera blocking the road and livid!was convinced I was up to no good, denied there was any footpath even when I showed him the map! Startedasking me if I was alone and where were the other boys (think he thought I was casing the area or something ! .....he must get out more!)insisted that I was up to no good or why else would I have a camera around my neck ....What!! for gods sake what with the government spying on every move and farmers like him think emigration best option!! I reminded him that we live in a free country told him to take my number plate and call the police (and gave him my next location) then drove off before he realy lost it ...........maybe I was unlucky but be careful if you visit ! Pillar was good .
2008-10-19 13:02 - TP2709 (Cwm-Du)
Easier than it lookes if you dont like asking permission! Park on B4310 in lay by to the SW,cross 1 field, over fence, cross track ,over gate by phone mast and you have arrived ! all out of sight. Ok views didnt linger.Pillar fine shape.
2008-10-19 12:31 - TP1650 (Broad Oak)

Good walk in in early light from Aughton.Pillar easily located.
2008-10-14 18:00 - TP1774 (Burledge Hill)
Memorable for all the wrong reasons. As getting late tried to save time and legs by parking near high point then into access land. Got bogged down in gorse, extracted myself only to find in field of lively bullocks, crossed one of the worst barbed fences have come across, found pillar, then tried different route back and nearly walked into Barbed wire at face height in gloom ,Not good. Glad to get home for a beer..............and that was supposed to be an easy log!! Pillar was good ,ok views.
2008-10-14 17:34 - TP1605 (Breach Hill)
Easier access than anticipated, parked to SW on road then down track to pillar.Good views of Chew valley.

Classic little hill, superb views and a short sharp climb with good parking ...all the essential elements for a Trigpoint!Pillar is good.
2008-10-14 15:58 - TP6825 (Westbury Beacon)
Walked in from SE,tried for access land approach but all gates had wire on so just walked in over farmland. A farmer approached but did not tell me I shouldnt be there.pillar has great views across to Brean Down, and is near an abandoned (and filled) ROC post.
2008-10-14 15:27 - TP1278 (Ben Knowle Hill)
Not simple to acess but had worse. Lane to SE.Most gates have barbed wire tops which is a bit sad.Excellent viewpoint, short but steep climb.Pillar good condition.(suffered same fate as daihatsu-boy here re Craghoppers, seem to get through so many pairs!)
2008-10-14 14:59 - TP0966 (Bagley Resr)
Easy find, one gate.Ok views. Resevoir ....but not as we usually know them! If only they were all this simple.Pillar on S side visible from road.
2008-10-14 14:51 - TP3997 (Honeygar)
Easy to get too, drive down track, park at pillar.Interesting landscape, guess will be first area to flood if the Global Warming Myth comes to fruition!Pillar good.
2008-10-14 14:29 - TP0286 (Compton Dundon)
Thanks to earlier loggers this was easy and uncovered.
2008-10-14 14:04 - TP6983 (Windmill Hill Resr)
Bit of a pain,in the end approached from NE on ROW then across fields.Pillar in good condition, nice views of Glastonbury from near.

Found it ,but not excited by it !For the ones that cant bear a space in the log.
2008-10-06 15:12 - TP4498 (Lobb Farm)
Drove towards Lobb farm on track under M40,then followed to West of Farm buildings.Parked up and walked track uphill past a empty house.Plenty of M Way noise but still saw Red Kite from 15m.Pillar marked on Explorer as being on hedgeline but is middle of field. Good condition ,hazy views.
2008-10-06 14:20 - TP2186 (City Farm)
Tried the Bridleway first then discovered easier just before footpath to the S,where you can access the field ,pillar is in hedge to West with flush facing.Good condition.
2008-10-06 13:15 - TP0249 (West Farm)
I was correct in assuming in deep in hedge, had to searche even with GPS. Flush faces road and definately would be easier in winter ,still unsure how I failed to find field side 3 weeks ago.
2008-10-04 14:25 - TP2254 (Clyro Hill)
Re visit to photograph. Approach from S on footpath next to road junction, then across field weather closing in but still far reaching views. Pillar unchanged in good condition.PTF
2008-10-02 10:55 - TP3631 (Harleys Mountain)
Re-visit to photograph. As with Llanvair that I also visited today,am amazed that these hills are ignored! This was my fourth visit in two years but only one with camera. Last visit here appears to be over 3 years ago but most visitors would find this a stunning location ...so if you are reading this come and visit ,the Welsh Marches etc are well worth the effort .
2008-10-02 09:15 - TP4483 (Llanvair Hill)
Re-visit to photograph. Am amazed that this has not been visited since 2006 as must be such a popular place given proximity to Offas Dyke.Wonderful morning with great views,if you desire peace and quiet come here it is lovely!
2008-10-01 17:22 - TP2703 (Cwm Gilla)
Re-visit to photograph. Great views, walk in through field of cows and calves and a bull... ...great plan! Walk out a completely different way!

Still gets a 5 even though it is missing.Superb views, some M/Way noise but altogether a v nice spot.
2008-09-29 15:39 - TP5332 (Pawlett)
Struggled to find initially until other half spotted it ....who is supposed to be the expert around here!Completely covered in ivy and barely visible from roadside.Entry to field required through hedge to view flush.
2008-09-29 15:02 - TP6655 (Unity Farm)
Could only get to within 20ft as felt I was intruding. No one at home in any of the caravans but must have looked a bit dodgy !Photos to follow.
2008-09-29 14:00 - TP1608 (Brean Down)
Lovely walk, quieter than expected.Picnic overlooking Severn Estuary in the sunshine.Excellent views to S Wales and over Steep Holm the nearest pillar.
2008-09-25 11:37 - TP1533 (Borough Hill)
Took some uncovering as swathed in ivy and brambles. The area surrounding was partially cleared ,I guess to facillitate the shoot parties.Easy pleasant walk in from the S,then over fence into copse.Pillar at obvious high point.
2008-09-25 10:34 - TP2976 (East Garston)
Walked up from the West on Footpath then Byway to the N.Easy find ok views.Hazy.Pillar in good condition.
2008-09-25 08:55 - TP2612 (Crooked Soley)
Buyried in hedge, have to be v close before you can spot it at this time of year. Walked up from Manor Farm to the south to stretch mine and the dogs legs!
2008-09-25 08:30 - TP2996 (East Soley)
No sign.Arable land nowhere to hide.

2008-09-24 13:04 - TP2878 (Dulcote Hill)
Had viewed earlier logs so did not arrive too optomistic! Found no sign.
2008-09-24 12:33 - TP2816 (Doulting)
FP to the E opposite junction looked poor,so parked near resevoir to the SE.Over fields to connect with FP.Met group of about 30 school kids on organised walk, nice to see teachers instilling (hopefully) a love of the countryside.Pillar next to fence in good condition.
2008-09-24 12:02 - TP6029 (Small Down Knoll)
Park to NWW on lane.Over fence out of sight to pillar. Good viewpoint.Pillar fine.

2008-09-23 17:10 - TP5663 (Rhubina)
Easier than anticipated, looked at access from N but have aversion to farmyards when trigpointing.Parked at foot of hill near M4 bridge crossing, follow FP into horse paddocks then up slopw through sheep field. One fence and you are there. Pillar in good condition. Views ok ,but excellent of Cardiff on they way back.
2008-09-23 16:35 - TP7134 (Ty-Bronna)
Grotty, horrible.Worried as left dog in car for the two minutes took to run there and back. Access from end of estate through gap by water tower. Not the prettiest area of Wales, but the problem is the people not the landscape........am sure the trees dont set themselves on fire and strew broken glass around their base! Miserable.saw several security firm vans and even the buses advertise the fact they have CCTV both inside and outside to encourage people to use public transport in safety! Personally a car with the doors locked and the first road out is preferable!Pillar itself surprisingly good shape for locale.
2008-09-23 16:28 - TP3099 (Fairwater)
Middle of housing estate.No sign.
2008-09-23 15:38 - TP4392 (Leckwith)
Awkward, drove up to Leckwith Hill farm.Park in woodland entrance.Through woods then up slope to fenceline.Pillar is in corner, over fence next to concrete structure.
2008-09-23 14:30 - TP2326 (Cogan)
What a depressing place. Not leaving car here, has obviously gone.
2008-09-23 13:55 - TP4014 (Hopkins Mount)
Have to go with damaged.Majority of pillar good but flush been ripped out. Access from the West just past caravan site entrance.Field edges and one dodgy gate.Horse fields,ok views.
2008-09-23 13:40 - TP0278 (Swanbridge)
Nice and easy with the OS sketch and Pic.Pleasant coastal views but frankly not the prettiest area of the UK.
2008-09-23 13:02 - TP5657 (Rhoose)
Same fruitless visit as others.
2008-09-23 12:22 - TP6921 (Whitton Rosser)
Nice and easy, park in drive, over fence and on to next!VGC .Limited views.
2008-09-23 11:50 - TP3345 (Giants Mound)
Pain to get to with the dog, impassable footpaths in two places.Forced way through eventually. Pillar at high point surrounded by trodden bracken.Good condition. No views from site but ok nearby.
2008-09-23 11:05 - TP6301 (Tair Onen)
Easy parking at field entrance, stubble.Views to the coast.Pillar good condition.

Good viewpoint, park (very) briefly in pull in to the NW.Field overlooks paddocks.
2008-09-22 17:00 - TP6665 (Upper Norton Farm)
Re-visit to photograph. Used quick approach from NW ,park by Pear Tree cottage, over gate then diagonal up field.
2008-09-22 16:02 - TP6352 (The Beck)
Re-visit to photograph.Same walk in as before ...same old dodgy gate!
2008-09-22 14:55 - TP2231 (Climers Hill)
Re-visit to photograph.Same approach as before.
2008-09-22 14:15 - TP5422 (Peopleton)

2008-09-22 13:29 - TP0818 (Allesborough)
Re-Visit to photograph
2008-09-20 17:00 - TP4080 (Hurst Hill)
Pillar in semi cleared woodland.Good condition .Walked in from University to the NE.
2008-09-20 16:05 - TP0249 (West Farm)
guessing this is deep in hedge, had no GPS location as was expecting easy find........when will I learn! A suspicious gap at high point but v overgrown so maybe I just missed it.
2008-09-20 15:45 - TP5165 (North Leigh)
Good easy access, parking at footpath start to the N. Pillar on ROW in hedge and good condition.
2008-09-20 15:00 - TP5578 (Ramsden Heath Resr)
There is no obvious hiding space, drive by for visual check.
2008-09-20 14:02 - TP4387 (Leafield Clump)
There were so many lively cattle around this (that later chased me out of field) that I only got to within 25ft.Due to lack of photos may have to return for more! Pillar appears in good condition.
2008-09-20 13:45 - TP6286 (Swinford Farm)
This has escaped the expansion of the resevoir by about 20ft.Good views. Access up track to resevoir to the NW.Park by old barns, across field, over fence up one more field.(pictures to follow)
2008-09-19 17:03 - TP3324 (Garth)
Lovely hill, fine views.Took thr quick way up from the SW as pushed for time and the Spaniel knackered from yesterday! Good expansive views.Pillar good.
2008-09-19 16:10 - TP5568 (Radyr)
Nothing to add.Compound.
2008-09-19 15:45 - TP6574 (Tregurnog)
Did not locate the concrete that Father Ted refers to ,but all logs seem to concur that it has gone and found nothing new.
2008-09-19 15:00 - TP0732 (Llangeinor)
Another Valley Pillar in a bad way.Walked in from the road but guess is driveable if you wish. Transmitter station surrounded by rubbish.Pillar half gone and in sorry state. Views ok.
2008-09-19 14:15 - TP7409 (Crug Yr Afan)
Cant add much to earlier logs.Rhayader covers most points. Parking is not good but can either go through barriers at entrance to track that leads to Llaneignor or bin it beyond the white lines like I did. Good views.
2008-09-19 12:00 - TP0221 (Hirwaun Viewpoint)
This is a lovely viewpoint.....almost good enough to make me rethink my perceived view of the Welsh valley!Usual rubbish on way up but this lay by free from detritus which was novel.V good views and a new area of S Wales for me. Easy find with OS pic and sketch.
2008-09-19 11:00 - TP2502 (Craig Rhiw Ddu)
Excellent views, good parking .100m from road. Pillar in good condition for area.
2008-09-18 17:00 - TP3548 (Gwynydd Bach)
Still gets a five for location .Last of three for the day ,now a long walk back to car with an already tired Spaniel.
2008-09-18 15:10 - TP5347 (Pen Allt Mawr)
Gets a high score despite its condition ,as the location is superb.Get a good day up here (like today) and it is stunning. Pillar in a bad way but still holding up .
2008-09-18 14:03 - TP5351 (Pen Cerig Calch)
Lovely circular walk taking in three tops.Started and finished at "Green Cottage" to the SE. The hard part is the 460m ascent from the start, the rest is a bit easier! Summit is rocky and familiar from my round of the Welsh Hewitts. Pillar has some surface cracks but nothing too bad. Did not see a soul in 9 miles, and the weather was excellent.
2008-09-16 15:19 - TP1436 (Blackberry Hill)
Simple access form the West on driveable lane with parking next to gate that gives access to pillar(if only it were always this easy!)Pillar has very good views although a little hazy today.Good condition.Seems I had a near miss with Hartryggers !
2008-09-15 11:59 - TP3447 (Great Beech)
Easy approach from footpath to the NE,Parking roadside.Pillar in field of horses but not interested in me.Good condition. PTF
2008-09-15 10:43 - TP6590 (Trostrey Hill)
Thought I would try approaching from the Church in Bettws Newydd as it was a pleasant day and fancied a longer walk. This is a pleasant approach but a bit awkward with the dog as there are many stiles etc with no dog space! Farmer was grass cutting in field next to pillar but didnt see me. Pillar in good condition in hedge. PTF
2008-09-13 17:38 - TP3150 (Fforest)
Good straightforward access from the NE.Drive to end of "yellow" road then you can go through gate ,turning and parking 25ft. Permissive path leads to summit and pillar is nearby. Once again I find myself thinking that this is one of the most beautiful parts of Wales ,have been in all weathers and still find places that I wish I had longer to enjoy. Pillar is good and all intact.
2008-09-13 15:40 - TP5361 (Pen Lifau)
This is a lovely hill in a beautiful location.short sharp (220m) climb from the SE .Superb views and all the solitude you want, one of those places to sit for a while and reflect.
2008-09-13 15:06 - TP5012 (Mynydd Cynros)
My 1800th log,and a lovely place to be.Access from the NW on a permissive path that leads to the top. Excellent views in all directions on this rare dry almost sunny day! Pillar is very good ,no real signs of damage.Parking at approx 615332,is a passing place but is also a dead end road so for the twenty five mins it takes should not be a problem.V pleasant location for my 18ooth log.
2008-09-13 14:01 - TP5408 (Pen-Y-Ddinas)
Parking in quarry entrance ,easy to access but agree withearlier logs that it has long gone.(Wanted to use this as access to Llethr-llwyd but unless I screwed up badly the By-Way marked stops at Garn Wen. Had taken bike and was not impressed so opted for another log for my 1800th!)
2008-09-12 16:00 - TP5350 (Pen Carn Bugail)
Parking to the S in another lay-by with at least 15 bags of fly tipped rubbish and various other bits of crap.Hillside much the same, even found part of a fridge 100m from the road ! Par for the course down here unfortunately.Pillar has extensive views N to the Brecon Beacons. Raced a heavy storm back to the car and glad was my last of the day! Pillar in good condition and has escaped the treatment some nearby ones have recieved.
2008-09-12 15:11 - TP3342 (Gelligaer Common)
Another depressing location.Pillar completely destroyed.
2008-09-12 14:03 - TP1824 (Bwlch Carn-Y-Gelli)
Scramblers about which make me nervous but no real hassle. Good views.pillar on its side with Flush showing.
2008-09-12 12:40 - TP5028 (Mynydd Mayo)
Gets a 1 because of the amount of rubbish everywhere, some has obviously been there for years ... if I can see it surely the council can? Give me a van and 6 reprobates on Community Service and could make a hell of a difference in just 1 week,.......oh no sorry could not possibly do that could we ...that would improve quality of life and be totally against current political thinking .Pillar is good with fine views.
2008-09-12 11:50 - TP5015 (Mynydd Eglwysilan)
Nice viewpoint.pillar in good condition ,cant relax until I find the car still with its wheels on upon my return.Usual dumped rubbish on road up. Some of the locals may be pikeys that dump crap everywhere but I bet the decent folk still pay council tax ,so why dont the council clear fly tipped rubbish down this way? Maybe they think its a tourist attraction ? Personally if it wasnt for the pillars I would never ever visit this area. Am sure am not the only person to feel this way ,so think how much revenue (eating out,re visits, shopping etc. The area has lots to offer in terms of scenery and access but until they reign in the local oiks there is no hope) they will continue to miss out because everywhere looks like a landfill site. Sad place.
2008-09-12 11:05 - TP5051 (Mynydd-Y-Grug)
As others have recorded,on edge of slag heap.No sign.
2008-09-12 10:20 - TP0275 (Pentrebach)
Easy find with OS diagram. Quiet edge of park location .
2008-09-12 09:55 - TP1844 (Caerphilly Common)
Excellent views, good safe parking, easy access and good food from the cafe. All a man could want!(nearly!) Pillar has fine expansive views and in very good condition.
2008-09-12 09:25 - TP4433 (Lisvane Hill)
This was a pain to get to,the ever not to be trusted Sat nav tried to take me in from the North but road not good at all ,so tried from South and a little better. parked at gateway and turned (just) but is not good in any way. hurried to pillar which has fine views of Cardiff bay.Pillar in good condition 6ft from path.Edit: have read Father teds log and suppose must agree is not really parking spot ,but if you are quick and cheeky think its ok :)
2008-09-12 08:40 - TP2595 (Croes Cadarn)
Pillar nowhere to be seen.Arable land.
2008-09-12 08:22 - TP4651 (Mardy)
Agree with Rhayader ,this is definately damaged!approach similar to mickandshane. Good sea views.
2008-09-12 08:15 - TP0280 (Sluice House Farm)
Easy find,recently cleared ,grotty area.
2008-09-12 08:01 - TP5420 (Pen-Y-Lan)
Absolutely no sign ,first of the day in my favourite part of Wales !
2008-09-10 14:37 - TP6626 (Twmbarlwm)
Very popular area with scramblers and local yoof, both of which left me nervous enough not to leave my car unattended on my first two attempts at this! The walk itself is straightforward, if you dont fall on broken glass, get run over ,have your car broken in to,get verbally abused ....the list is endless.come here on a sunny Saturday and enjoy all that S Wales has to offer ! Pillar is located 100m SW of high point. One point of note,if aproaching from the West and using Sat Nav it will send you up an impassable lane from Penrhiw,it is steep narrow and awkward to reverse down once you realise! There is a notice at the North end advising you to ignore Sat Nav systems but nothing at the South side which seems pointless really as once you have made it there you will retrace your steps probably.
2008-09-10 12:31 - TP1834 (Byrgwm)
Again am surprised by state of pillar! Lots of detritus on the way from the road and near pillar but no major damage.Pleasant views and easy log.
2008-09-10 11:05 - TP5017 (Mynydd Garn Wen)
Surprisingly good shape for an accesible pillar in the valleys!Very good views in all directions. Drove to end of road at approx 285041 then short walk up on track.
2008-09-09 12:57 - TP3459 (Great House Farm)
This was my third attempt at this and one of the few I am missing in the area. First two attempts were thwarted by shoot parties. Chose a miserable wet dull day to tramp through some of the worst kept farmland I have seen. Even with all the info could not even locate the pond ,maybe a bad day ,maybe it has gone. Will have another look but am puzzled !
2008-09-09 11:04 - TP3191 (Flagstaff Hill)
A relatively simple pillar made difficult by the monsoon "summer" that is drawing to an end. Took scenic route from the NE which entailed many stiles ,two crossing of a swollen stream and so much shouting at the dog to keep him from the water that I bet he wished I had left him in the car! Pillar now enclosed between 2 fences with Bullocks in both fields. No views as wet, miserable, cold ,grey, dull and horrible enough to make a man consider emigrating.
2008-09-04 13:17 - TP3218 (Foel Penderyn)
Parking in gateway to the SE.Bridleway then stile.Onto ridge with fine views.Caught a cloudburst on the way back that kept me wet for 25 miles!Pillar in good condition.(pics pending)
2008-09-04 11:05 - TP2180 (Cilgwyn Platform)
This was another that looked a pain on the map but was fine on the ground.Parked on the lane to the NW by house entrance.Followed footpath that skirted house then across fields to the pillar which is 10ft into wood over a fence.(Photos to follow but having problems with new camera!)
2008-09-04 10:11 - TP5651 (Rhiwan)
Excellent views over Black Mountain. Drove part way up from the West on ROW,pleasant walk after with nice views of in coming rain!Pillar in v good condition.
2008-09-04 09:15 - TP3107 (Fan Hill)
Short steep climb from the SE. absolutely no views whatsoever! What an abysmal dreary dull depressing summer.Imagine this is a fine location as the scenery when I dropped out of the mire was quite good. Pillar is good and located on edge of an old fort(although for all I could see it may as well have been located on the edge of Atlantis!)
2008-09-04 08:14 - TP1434 (Black Wood)
This appeared harder on the map than when I got there.parking just inside wood to the West, follow path straight up ,go left at junction then Right at next ,follow this untl it meets a fence which leads to a gate and open pasture containing pillr.Good views pleasant walk .Think wood is private but unless you are unlucky would be surprised if you meet anyone.Pillar in good condition .
2008-09-04 07:14 - TP6589 (Troed Rhiw Felen)
Parking at the end of farm track, follow for 150m then across fields, mainly out of sight. Not sure if farm is occupied but tracks suggest it is worked.Observed a fox when at pillar that didnt seem too concerned by anything! Good views if the weather had been better, visited early morning after leaving waterlogged campsite visible from pillar. There is also an old ROC post within 50ft of the pillar.
2008-09-03 18:07 - TP0613 (Llandovery FBM Aux 1)
Following on from my reading logs by Dusty thought would check this as well. Took my original pics etc but could find no trace, have to go with possibly but guess next few logs will confirm one way or another.
2008-09-03 17:55 - TP7149 (Llandovery)
Having read the log by Dusty and being in the area thought would have a look ,this has definately gone but dont know why ,has to be a deiberate removal as nothing else changed.
2008-09-03 17:03 - TP0220 (Velindre)
This was the 4th time I had been here and still drew a blank.I am sure it is hiding somewhere but not sure how to find it ...credit to Iainmac for the only sucessful find.
2008-08-30 14:32 - TP4999 (Mynydd Bedwellty)
Easy access from the West, biggest danger is letting your car out of sight in these valleys(speaking from experience)! I cant love these places ,and coming straight here from the edge of Abergwesyn Common near Beulah the contrast couldnt be greater. Pillar in good condition for the area with none of the graffiti and vandalism that usually greets you at pillars in this area.
2008-08-30 11:06 - TP3317 (Garn Wen)
Lovely location tucked away in some of the finest scenery in Wales.Views on a clearer day of Drygarn and the surrounding tops. Parked at end of dead end road at approx SJ 906537.Same approach as mickandshane, but bridleway so overgrown not passable, retraced to forest and then followed fenceline to open hillside.Pillar is stonebuilt in a hollowed out cairn.
2008-08-28 16:02 - TP0177 (Point Of Ayr)
Cant get too excited about these, but for the sake of completion.....!

2008-08-28 13:19 - TP2492 (Craig Fawr)
This is a lovely little hill with excellent views, sadly it is also very accessible for the local yoof, with obvious results!Paint has been cleared off flush bracket numbers.Having read other logs am surprised that this ammount of paint and graffiti doesnt count as damage!
2008-08-28 12:55 - TP0604 (Dyserth FBM Aux 1)
The first visit for two years and I had no more luck than Keith Stevens.Long grass and even with the sketch and Iainmac's pictures I still drew a blank.I agree with Keith that it appears that the sign has been moved ,a fact that probably affected where I searched .....but now i am just making excuses!...
2008-08-28 12:50 - TP7209 (Dyserth (R))
Nice easy find ,in good condition inside protective railings.
2008-08-28 11:10 - TP3214 (Foel Gasyth)
Excellent views over the coast and inland.Pillar nearly on access land - which is knee high in gorse and waist high with bracken, very nice! It is much easier on the wrong side of the fence in sheep pasture but you are overlooked.Pillar itself is in good condition with some erosion around base but nothing too bad.
2008-07-21 10:37 - TP2623 (Crouch Down)
Nice walk from Barford St Martin, bridleway from NW corner of estate then field edges to within 150m of Pillar.Tractor tracks the rest of the way.Pillar is in good condition with lovely views to the S.
2008-07-21 07:45 - TP2372 (Compton Hut)
Walked in from A30 to the N.Good parking at bridleway near Naishes Farm. Followd until it cut Bywayto SW then 1km to NE . Followed field edges to pilar which has a bird scarer nearby! Nice area near Fovant Badge. Took quick route off direct to the N then back to car.

2008-07-20 17:06 - TP5976 (Silk Hill)
Return visit as failed due to flags the other day(dont like to be beaten!) Drove up Milston Drove and cycled the rest of the way, ample parking to L and R at first Tank crossing. All quiet and superb views.Concur that they appear like bullet holes ! Otherwise in good shape.
2008-07-20 16:00 - TP3062 (Enford Twr)
Cycled up to this from Enford Farm, was surprised to meet a Byway that is not marked on my Explorer map ,folowed this to the West as there was a Ranger in a 4x4 patrolling .Then cycled bridleway to the West(still no visible sign on the ground ...an excuse for being 100m off ROW maybe?!..but be carefull!) as far as a tarmac track that leads NE to the pillar.Another thanks to Bluebeard for uncovering flush, brick still there and replaced after i took pic! nice location .
2008-07-20 15:43 - TP3043 (Ell Barrow)

Lovely views, major "pig" area ! Cycled up frm Rushall Manor on ROW then passed in front of rushall Barn en route to pillar.Great views and pleasant riding. Pillar on West side of fence just outside range .Am going with slightly damaged as there is a significant crack near the base .... will see what future visitors think!
2008-07-16 08:47 - TP0975 (Bal Mawr)
Excellent place . All pillars should have views like this! Walked up from Llanthony woods via ROW. Was short on time which was a shame because the weather and views could have kept me for hours.Lovely views down on to Llanthony Priory from the path. Pillar is stone built and in good condition. Came past here in 2002 when on round of Welsh Hewitts but had no photos.
2008-07-15 16:23 - TP2339 (Cold Kitchen)

Walk in from SE,miserable wet July day for a non pillar!
2008-07-02 12:42 - TP6561 (Trannon)
Beautiful upland area currently being desecrated in the name of renewable ? energy .I envisage a day not that far from now when you will not be able to stand on a hillside in Mid Wales and see the natural skyline . The pillar has been guarded by four wooden stakes while they built a turbine base next to it ,but the sense of remoteness has gone with the access roads and the concrete. Yet another part of Wales that has sold out . Pillar in good condition in a once lovely location.
2008-06-17 15:01 - TP3413 (Gorllwyn)
walked in from the parking area at the S end of Caban coch resevoir. A couple of fields then open hillside with wonderfull views. The pillar is on the edge of a stone built shelter. Didnt have time today for Drygarn sadly. Have been here on 3 other occasions but had no photos!

Pleasant summit with good views. We walked in from S hoping to miss the showers .Badger sett under the pillar(pretty sure entrances are too big for rabbits ,and the pooh all around is not rabbit either!).The Beech trees nearby provided cover from the rain but it can still be quite an exposed hill .
2007-12-01 14:25 - TP4683 (Martinsell)
Second attempt at this pillar ,how the hell we missed it the first time i dont know! Lowlight of first attempt was spaniel / electric fence encounter (again) and so maybe i was distracted! anyway its fairly easy at this time of year and a lovely walk in from the parking to the NE . Good views from the nearby bench.
2007-12-01 13:24 - TP3344 (Giants Grave)
Walked in from the parking to the NW. Windy day but rain held off.Excellent viewpoint from pillar.
2007-11-24 08:00 - TP6696 (Wadswick)
Just on field edge, park briefly nearby.Good views.
2007-11-16 13:11 - TP3627 (Haresfield Beacon)

2007-10-28 13:45 - TP1547 (Bowden Park)
Had a walk down the lane but not with much hope.No sign in hedges .
2007-10-28 11:45 - TP7078 (Worton)
The pillar is easy to access over 1 gate. The weather was poor so no views.Parking to the SE best option.
2007-10-28 11:00 - TP3079 (Etchilhampton Hill)
Short walk in on ROW.Grey day so no views.
2007-10-20 16:06 - TP5383 (Penmynydd)
Last of the day for me ...just a 150 mile drive home left and i only popped out for a walk in the morning! Nice views of Snowdonia, pillar on a bank in good condition.
2007-10-20 15:44 - TP2090 (Cefn-Cwmmwd)
Easy find in the hedge ....that i nearly missed as GPS was pointing to middle of field ,and as its not on the Explorer Maps was guessing it was a goner. Up in the hedge .
2007-10-20 14:58 - TP3989 (Holyhead)
Pleasant walk in from the SW ,parking near the South Stack Lighthouse. Excellent views but too hazy to make out Snowdonia.
2007-10-20 14:24 - TP0519 (Holyhead)
In a park area ,good views of Holy Mountain.
2007-10-20 13:57 - TP6565 (Tre-Arddur)
this was easier to get to than i thought ,there is a stile into the field to the NW ,then one fence to cross for pillar ,ok views.
2007-10-20 13:29 - TP3428 (Graianfryn)
Easy short walk on ROW from the lane, park (just) in gateway briefly . Views over Holyhead Harbour.
2007-10-20 13:15 - TP1923 (Carmel)
Chased out by frisky Bullocks before i got photo ..and i was not going back ! Nice views i think.

Just in to field ,gate 20 ft away .Pillar in good condition ,nice views.
2007-10-20 12:36 - TP0170 (Hermon)
Located in the corner of garden,i didnt enter as there appeared no one at home.
2007-10-20 12:16 - TP3208 (Porthamel)
Nearly roadside, good viewsof Snowdonia. As others have mentioned, accessing the field is not necessary to get flush number.
2007-10-14 16:43 - TP6639 (Tylau)
Paid a return visit now the pipeline people have finished ,actually found better access from road junction to the NW ,then diagonally across fields to the pillar ..which has escaped destruction by about 30 ft. The pipeline is fenced off ,and already becoming harder to spot from a distance than it was only a couple of months ago.
2007-10-14 11:40 - TP6633 (Twyn Mwyalchod)
End of my circuit around the "Fans" ,weather still grey and murky ,visibility about 30 metres at best ...normal Beacons stuff. Pillar in good condition ,muddy descent down to a very empty Lower Neuadd Resevoir ...lowest i have ever seen it.
2007-10-14 10:15 - TP1610 (Brecon Beacons)
Miserable grey weather ,most recent of about 20 visits in all weathers, but first since began logging Trigpoints so decided must pay a visit .Large cairn ,again i have no memory of the pillar being here.
2007-10-14 09:00 - TP2501 (Craig Pwllfa)
Long been lost, have no memory of seeing this one even though this circuit has been a favourite for last 15 years.
2007-10-13 15:55 - TP5287 (Pant-Y-Ffynnon)
Walked in from the road to the SW followed footpath for 150m then cut diagonally accross the fields following the fenceline and dodging the cattle.Got reprimanded for parking on private ground at road junction ....a 6 acre field with the car entirely off the track ...how much bloody space do these GOMLs want??
2007-10-13 15:23 - TP3148 (Ffinant Uchaf)
Access from the lane to the NW ,one fence ,limited views.
2007-10-13 14:58 - TP1470 (Blaen-Nant)
Easy to access of the lane, limited parking but on a ROW .Hazy views.Just checking my maps in an idle moment and this is completely missing on my Explorer 186.
2007-10-13 13:30 - TP3284 (Gaer Fach)
Got absolutely beasted by brambles on this one .Had taken a look at it from the NW and decided an approach from the SW was more viable ,following the line of the wall to the junction then hence to pillar ,30 mins later bloodied and cursing i admitted that it was a winter pillar ....armed with a machete! and so left ...well bloody annoyed. Edit:Found second visit.
2007-10-13 12:36 - TP4992 (Mwmffri)
Excellent viewpoint, lovely short walk in ,found best parking to the NE ,where you can walk back down th road and access the fields from there.
2007-10-08 13:02 - TP4340 (Lane End Field)
Up on a bank ,side of lane ,parking close at junction.
2007-10-08 12:41 - TP6571 (Tregearedown)
Ianmac was correct on this occasion ,having scoured the field edge ,i finally located the pillar just behind the Masts. It looks like it has been sited properly and not just dumped so will in all probability stay where it is now! Didnt get gps fix but if you aim up through the woodsfrom the South and when you go over the gate the mast is on your right ,its just behind the compound. As a small bonus it was my 1600th log.
2007-10-08 12:05 - TP6726 (Warbstow)
Top of field, park in lane good views.
2007-10-08 11:48 - TP6583 (Trewannion Down)
Near to NATS aerial compound. In good condition. There is aa empty ROC post nearby ,which would be worth a look if you are not solo.
2007-10-08 11:36 - TP2376 (Condolden Barrow)
Pillar itself isfine, but if the erosion at the base continues for a few more years i think it will fall.
2007-10-08 11:17 - TP0334 (Tresparrett Down)

Absolutely no chance! Scratched ,stung and frustrated ...now for the FBM!
2007-10-08 10:37 - TP2791 (Dizzard Point)
Chose the lazy access from junction of farm tracks ,where there is ample parking. One open field to cross but out of sight nearly all the time. Pillar on SWCP,leaning but stable.
2007-10-08 10:23 - TP2544 (Crapps Beacon)
Had to setle for a zoom shot .Walked res compound fence and found nothing ,so went on down road and in to field there, pillar was visible but in a field of cattle (evil things!) and also a farmer ,so climbed bank and did my best!
2007-10-08 09:45 - TP3025 (Efford Beacon)
Lovely walk up from Bude on the SWCP ,parked near the harbour and had a wander around ,been about 15 years since have been to the area.Camera played up at pillar and had visions of more "cheap week away" expense ,but recovered soon after.
2007-10-08 09:12 - TP2988 (East Leigh)
Parked at end of green lane ,then walked up from gateway ,track used as cattle route ...so a bit um messy.
2007-10-08 08:59 - TP3957 (Hobbacott)
Roadside ,next to lay by .Very Non-Descript for my 1600th log!
2007-10-08 08:39 - TP2244 (Clubworthy)
Access on footpath ,pilar is a real mess ,most of the top missing including spider.
2007-10-08 08:18 - TP5423 (Peppershill)
Easy access, very unusual place for a bolt .
2007-10-07 17:43 - TP1563 (Bradstone Barton)
I struggled with this one, climbed bank twice from the lane, accessd field from both sides and still did not get a sniff of a pillar .It may be buried as they are down this way ,deep in the hedge but will be a winter log that gets a good photo!
2007-10-07 14:47 - TP6567 (Trecarrell)
High on the bank, parking opposite briefly.Fell while getting flush so last log of day put me in a bad mood!
2007-10-07 14:03 - TP4373 (Lawhitton)
The chicken shit pile is smaller than in some photos ,but i think with earlier attempts taken into account this should become a define missing! As for the smell! least said.....

2007-10-07 10:29 - TP3290 (Galford Down)

2007-10-05 13:20 - TP2213 (Cleave Camp)
Near to A Government Spy Post ,if you dont get you plate noted around here i will be amazed. Still at least they keep us safe .Funny how i felt more worried about " our side" being around here than any alledged opposition. Pillar is about 50 ft down (driveable) farm track.Good views.
2007-10-05 12:45 - TP3278 (Furze Farm)
Think my experience was an amalgamation of all the rest .Horses ..check ...Sheds ...check fail to find for ages....check .Eventually located in hedge but was then shouted at by someone enquiring what i was doing .So discretion being better part ...blah blah i legged it.

2007-10-01 11:10 - TP6129 (St John)
Had to cross a field full of what now passes as manure ...chicken shit and dead chicks .Its only in the S West that i have seen this and i think it is disgusting . When the next outbreak of some disease occurs maybe ,just maybe letting Seagulls fead on crap in a field wont seem such a good idea.Pillar in a hedge on a plinth .Not visible from main road.
2007-10-01 10:59 - TP2485 (Crafthole)
A bit awkward ,accessed from road over Golf Course ,but then a group came into view as was trying to find/photograph pillar,so had to go through hedge and long way back to car!Pillar in hedge and slightly damaged.

If you are coming to this from TP3406 "Goodmerry" ,try and avoid the road that goes past Haye Farm as its awful! Really narrow and overgrown . Pillar loated about 30 ft from old fort ramparts .
2007-10-01 10:03 - TP3406 (Goodmerry)
High up on bank ,climb up for flush.

2007-09-16 10:05 - TP0172 (Ystum Gwern)
Bit of a strange one,odd location not even near the high point in the area.Bit of an experience getting there ,through the garden on a footpath ,avoid the horses ,hoist dog over a stile ,cross railway line ,over another stile then into the bogs that class as as a footpath....the life of a trigpointer is rarely straightforward. After you get past this lot its fairy straightforward ,a couple of walls and a few sheep fields .On the edge of RAE Llanbedr but no sign of activity.Pillar in good condition with views back to edge of Snowdonia.
2007-09-15 10:44 - TP2711 (Cwmmaria)
Wonderful location ,stunning views are the words i would use if it were not cloudy .. Shame really because the location is great ,pleasant walking and the gaps that formed on the way back give a taster of what would be on offer ... Cadair ,and the Coastline South from Barmouth . pillar is stone built like many in the area and accessed easily from the SW on ROWs ,The area is now access land so no issues there. Can recomend a camp site just North of Barmouth at Trawsdir ,not the cheapest but excellent facilities.
2007-09-09 14:45 - TP6780 (Weaver Hill)
Excellent views and pleasant walking .Access is just off paths and as my map is a bit old am unsure if this is now access land or not. Pillar is in good condition.

Short distance from ROW,and in sight of farm but no bother.
2007-09-09 11:45 - TP3938 (Hilly Field)
Had aborted this one a while ago after seeing the beware of dog signs and thinking it was in grounds of house.Tried again as was in area and thought had cracked it but people in the field after i had scrambled up bank from road deterred me from going further.Managed a zoom shot and condition looked fine.
2007-09-09 11:30 - TP6499 (Tittesworth Farm)

excellent views and a very white pillar in fine condition ...well done to whoever is looking after it! Short sharp climb from the NW .
2007-09-08 12:33 - TP3614 (Hardings Booth)
still gets a 5 despite its condition ,but only because it gave me the runaround ! Had tried earlier from the campsite ,but even having ignored all the signs instructing me to report to reception and the stares of the campers as i peered over the fence ,i decided that climbing into the field may be a step too far! So re tried from the East off the road and managed to avoid cows and calves andfinally reached the remains of the pillar. In a bad way with very little of the Spider covered .
2007-09-08 11:42 - TP6863 (Wheston)
another one with fine views, simple access off the track to the North.

2007-09-08 08:52 - TP4314 (Ladder Hill)
Thought i would be good and pay attention to the private signs on the gate of the track that leads to the television mast and the pillar ,tried to access through the woods but with dog in tow the fences proved a pain,so tied dog to tree and crossed the field.Good hazy views ,pillar just beyond stone wall if approaching from the SE .

2007-05-06 11:03 - TP1991 (Carneddau)
Had tried for this pillar before from the North on ROW but had the Mutt in tow and been deterred by farm dogs. So went today "sans chien" ..sadly also went "sans le carte!" so having tried to remember where i meant to park eventually parked up to the South on a minor road and enjoyed a trip of about 2 miles on a GPS only .So professional ! Pillar is fine with excellent views of surrounding hills .

Lovely isolated position to the North of the Teifi pools, last pased this way a couple of years ago on a backpacking trip.Short walk from the South ,parking at cattle grid. The ground suggests that this could be a very boggy area much like the Drygarn area to the West, however after a dry April it was not a problem.Good views over a wild landscape.Red Kite are common . A nice place to visit.Pillar is in good shape surounded by stone shelter.
2007-04-15 08:15 - TP3359 (Gilwern Hill)

2007-04-01 15:35 - TP6922 (Whitwell)
This is a mess! Approach from either NW or SE on ROW ,ok views ,still windy and cold!
2007-04-01 14:20 - TP1578 (Bramley Moor)
Made a mess of this one! Looked in the hedge to the South for a while ,had no GPS ref so then started on N hedge, stepped over a fence to scan hedges in a horse field then carried on looking roadside ,nearly back at the car and this irate bloke came running over the field asking what the F i was doing on his land! I decided that he didnt look as if he wanted a conversation about concrete blocks so hopped in car and buggered off, some days ......

Beautifull location on the edge of the Dovey hills.Took the option of the path at the Col on the A470 where there is good parking. very good views of Cadair Idris and most of the near peaks, just a haze making the distant ones indistinct.Great walking country ,my first visit to this peak since my round of the Welsh Hewitts.Pillar is a circular stone built one ,in good condition.Saw a pair of grouse just after leaving the top.
2007-03-17 10:02 - TP3221 (Foel Y Geifr)
Another of the stone built pillars that you come accross, fine views and a pleasant short walk from the minor road that leaves the N corner of Lyyn Efyrnwy. This is a very popular place ,but have found that most groccles dont stray too far from the main paths so the hills are usually nice and quiet!Tough underfoot if covering long distances but always worth the effort.
2007-03-10 12:30 - TP3367 (Glan-Hafon)
Parking in the village or on a minor road that runs to the S W .Approach on a Bridleway that contours the hill then crosses a stream before climbing sharply past a disused mine shaft. There are some glorious views that open up as you climb higher. This is one of the finest parts of Mid wales and the solitude is wonderful. There is an option to continue to the fine waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr which gives a nice circular walk.Today was a lovely day with a sighting of a Perigrine and a Hen Harrier. The pillar is just below the summit with excellent views of the Berwyn. In good condition protected by a partial stone break.
