Lovely peaceful location in an old beech wood. Walked in on South Downs Way, bridleway then track to NW of woods to within 50m of pillar. Good condition and the last of my weekend .
Shame i had a misty day for this one as seems like its a great viewpoint. Parked to the SW at carpark (£1.00 for an hour)then short walk to pillar which is good.
Easy find next to road.
Approached from footpath to the North.....signs says slippery and steep ! Bloody health and safety nonsense i thought.....but seriously it is setep and slippery and i am not joking ! If you want an easy option take opposite end of footpath from the south by farm , but if you fancy a mudslide back down its quite fun ! Must be one of the steepest marked footpaths have ever been on away from the mountains ! Pillar good with three deer nearby as a bonus.

Interesting location......no flush on pillar....just 1960 inscribed on side. Access quite simple just follow one way system and pillar on left after first right hand turn opposite main entrance.
Pleasant walk from parking to the North.....lovely forest walking .....v misty so didnt visit Temple of Winds as could barely see 20 ft! Pillar good and an easy find.

Easy to find, parking at end of footpath, saw lovely green woodpecker on the way. Pillar got damage to the corner but seen worse.
Parking as others to the south, permissive footpath by the side of house the muddy path alongside fence....leave this follow fence to left then uphill on west side of hedge......pillar buried in brambles.
Access off A272 on badly marked bridleway....parking on slip road near garage. Pleasant small heath area. Pillar good.
Have this as slightly damaged as leaning a tad! Accessed from east on serpents way.....followed path to minor track uphill but easier route to pillar is to take vague track beneath power lines to collapsed fence at top , through gap and pillar about 30ft to the west . Good condition apart from lean!
Short walk from minor road to the east, ( currently closed) sharp climb to viewpoint where recent felling has opened up a great viewing point.Pillar good.

Walked up edge of wood....very wet and muddy . onto a completely deserted golf course! Walked across to pillar for pics and back and still not a soul in sight.

This has undergone some work since last visits. Now has a wraparound "seat" commemorating the Jubilee attatched to it ......although it appears to be slanting and breaking away already. Path from road to the west has been bulldozed to make wider.....appears recent ....and more stone stored near pillar suggests there is some more changes still to come but not necessarily to the pillar.

Revisit. Still a classic view with not too much effort, freed a trapped sheep on the way up so felt like had done good deed for the day!

Lovely circular walk from minor road above holiday village at Trawsfynnyd. Great views and didnt see a soul for hours! Pillar has no flush bracket.
Great walk, deserves the praise it gets from many books, walked in from Capel Curig return via Plas Y Brenin, fantastic views of the Glderau, Snowdon Horseshoe and too many othr peaks to start listing! 2nd visit.
Continuation from snowdon, then backtrack to pick up the Pyg path, great views.
My ninth visit but first specifically to visit the pillar, had early start to beat the crowds and a semi clear view from the summit ...... busy as always!!

Has to have a high score for such a fantastic location ! Walked up from the west along flooded byway the SWCP and up to pillar through the trees.

Lovely location,parking at Ty-Du to the N. Byway then across open hillside to pillar. Not sure how the "Private keep out" sign attached to the gate is compatable with the open access sign right next to it though ! Best to just ignore, along with all the other private notices on the gates,weather was kind and afforded us some good views. Last pillar on Explorer 155.

From the moment I saw this on the map thougt it would be fun! Walked in three weeks ago but turned back by oil workers, this time decided to drive to house and ask, perfectly viable as good track. No one at home at house so wandered over for photos. Fantastic isolated position with great views, a unique location .Pillar great condition and protected from worst of elements by trees.

After a stormy night camping at Bala was hopeful weather would hold for my visit. Parked at Pont-yr-Hedydd to the N. Track to Llyn Arenig then fairly obvious tracks to summit. Weather broke just as I left with sleet and heay rain staying with me all the way back to the car. Second visit. Slightly damaged.Good views before weather closed in.

This is on North West side of hedge, chose wrong side and being too lazy to retrace went under hedge. Picking hawthorn thorns out of my hands foa a week! Pillar good condition.

Parking to SE at head of Cwm Mynach. Forest track for 2km. I ignored the path signed off through the trees and carried on until reached gate on left. This joins in with the path and continues through the disused levels to eventually gain the ridge. Pillar is in splendid location with great views. Good condition.

My final pillar on Explorer 177. Park to the S next to old chapel and resevoir. Track across field edge past barns, at second gate R across open field to pillar which is in good condition. Ok views.
Parking at end of bridleway (actually a private road but genuinely didnt know) beware the old lady at the bungalow she was not a happy bunny!! Walked on along track until just after bend then across fence and straight up hill. Pillar over one fence near to house. VGC, views over to worms head.

A consolation Island visit after my Ramsey Island trip was cancelled with half an hours notice. Boat from Tenby (first one at 10.30 no boats Sunday) (£11.00 per adult). Lovely locaton for a pillar and an interesting island.....early boat guarantees some peace and quiet. Pillar very good condition.
Parked to the N on A 477 in wide gateway, up field and then a game of hide and seek with farmer that was driving around.Pillar in good condition with ok views.

Lovely walk along Pembroke Coast path from Freshwater East. Pillar easy to access, in good condition with superb views. Remember this stretch from walking the coast bath back in 2004....how time flies!
Park to the SE in large lay-by, over gate adorned with barbed wire then across fields to pillar. ( FB faces N so fence crossing required). Pillar in good condition.
Excellent directions from Perigrinus... spot on as usual. Took the slippery bank route in and found quite quickly, last 15ft on hands and knees under brambles. Fascinating location and obviously visited fairly frequentely judging by the paths. This was a last minute visit after my planned trip to Ramsey Island was cancelled as the sea was too rough. Pillar in good condition.

Tried to cycle to this from the NW via Park East farm but path does not exist on the ground. Drove to the S and parked at Rhyd-y-Brown. Cycled in on byway that led through edge of farmyard, v muddy and covered in cow muck ...great! Pillar in hedgeline in good condition with ok views.
Straightforward access through field of cows and calves and bull! Pillar vgc with good views. The cars are still there and have not been cleared up,and have been complimented with the addition of a dead Friesan cow.....am sure this does not constitute proper disposal of deadstock! New pit has been dug near to pillar to facilitate nex batch of landfill.

Have to agree with Dusty that this is gone. I recall there being a group of trees to the E / NE that I failed to explore on my first visit.(google earth clearly shows these and also the pond)These trees are gone and also the pond. This is shown as a watery depression in Dustys photo. This area has been recently leveled and grassed over.
Footpath from farm at NE then fields to pillar. Nice views and lovely sunset. Pillar has some minor damage.
Parking to the West at end of dead end lane. There is a large wind farm nearing completion. Follow path to woodland then SE along wood edge to reach firebreak at SN476006 33206 then when you reach forest road go approx 200m NE to SN47800 33612 where another firebreak leads straight to the pillar. Good condition.
My final pillar on Explorer 185. Awkward access, eventually went through wood to SE. Then 2 x fences. Sheep pasture.Pillar slightly undermined but otherwise good.

Drove up to Penlan Voss, spoke to pleasant woman who said it was fine to visit pillar, had long chat ( well was long if you know welsh farmers) who told me the OS had used pillar when the A40 Carmarthen bypass was built. Great views pillar in good shape and farmer views it as important so should be there for a while.
Drove up to Cwmau Uchaf. Parking 50m to the S. Nobody around apart from the most wonderfull Jack Russell who, if he was a guard dog should be sacked on the spot!Walked through grounds then pasture to pillar. Another welcome from the dog on the way back!Great view pillar good.

Nice location. Tricky to access. Footpath from S not visible on ground. Walked in from NW via edge of wood in full view of farm (Hengoed). Pillar in good condition with nice views.
Wonderfull location with great views. Parked at end of lane to the East. Walked up lane and had a guide to the pillar from a lad that was building a Mountain Bike course with his mate. He was interested in the purpose of the pillar and mildly amused Ithink by the fact that peple actualy bother to visit them ! Having said that he was out there doing something and his politeness and attitude was great after the normal idiot tendencies from yoof of today! Pillar is good with anti vandal plates.

Walk in from the NW, parking at post box to the N. Followed by noisy sheep despite my attemps to be unobtrusive!. Pillar good and right side of the fence for a change!
Asked at Pen-Cerig farm to the SE. Pleasant farmer was great, pointed out that it was not his land but the owner wouldnt mind.That was permission enough for me! Pillar in good shape,nice views of impending (hail) storm!

Good condition, great views. Drove up to resevoir compound, bad move, nowhere to park or turn. GOML notice on SW gate so went NE over fence, then back over another fence beyond resevoir.
Gasline pipeline finished and missed the Trigpoint by about 20ft. Pole marks its path and rapidly growing hedge will soon obscure its path.Pillar is in good condition, Re visiting to get a Flush photo. Very wet day with snow once again falling on the Black Mountains. Visit to Bookshop heaven at Hay-On-Wye for second hand Explorer Maps after at £4 a throw in mint condition............and so many to choose from ! Always wondered why I was poor now I realise why!!
Parkd to the SE just past aerial site. Fairly recent felling activity has opened up good views. Maybe its misplaced paranoia but am never happy leaving my car unattended in this area. Pillar in good condition with nice view back to the Beacons
Ok views. parked to the N then a short walk in on ROW then across field. Usual S Wales approach ( broken glass, discarded cider cans, burnt out tyres and enough litter to fill a skip every mile) Pillar painted yellow.
Walked in from the S on track that runs through the woods at Ffridd y Castell. Then follow fenceline NW and stone wall to within 100m of pillar. Excellent 360 views taking in some of Mid/N Wales finest scenery. My third visit but probably not my last, a really lovely location. Pillar is stonebuilt and in good condition.
What a visit. Cant recommend this unless you enjoy 3 hours of bog, heather, solitude, snow, bleakness and cold. If you do be my guest as I will never go back! This was my 3rd attempt, the first one the dog went lame halfway, the second time I turned an ankle and had to dip out. Views are good but bleak. There are more exciting and scenic places close but if you want all the pillars...... you have to go here! Pillar is good condition.
Another sharp climb after Mynydd Mawr. Followed redirected By way thet used to go through "Fron", now it starts from near spot 266. Parked at Llangadwaladr then back up road. Follow diversion until you reach old route, then straight up fenceline to summit.Good location. Pillar carries plaque and crest.
Parked at church to the SSE. Bridleway for 400m then straight up following fenceline. Pillar carries plaque and crest. Great views.
Cycled in from Caio on forest track. When you reach the cleared area the pillar is NE on small tumulus. The area has ben re-planted so in another 5 years or so you will be battling the trees again! Took a grid ref for future use. Pillar good, great views.
Had tried this once before and sank knee deep in a bog which put me off for the day despite trying two other approaches. Drove up from Bwlch-y-rhiw to the S on forest tacks (no barriers) to close to spot height 429 ( Bryn Cadwgan) then new forest roads to edge of forest. The open ground to pillar can be boggy but was good today. Glad to have this one in the bag! Pillar is in vgc.Great views, lovely area.
Easier still is to drive to the farm and ask bemused farmer for permission...somehow my explanation that this was my hobby didnt convince him that this muddy apparition before him was entirely right in the head! He directed me towards a gate and retreated inside. Pillar affords good views and is in good condition.
On the fringes of the Tywi forrest. Pleasant location. Parked to the W just before the fords and cycled in on bridleway then walked the last 200m. Great views. Pillar in vgc.
Had looked at a few ways to this one, in the end parked at start of bridleway to the SW of the cafe at Trallwm,follow the main bridleway for about a kilometre until you reach a green barn and a holiday cottage. Through gate, cross stream then skirt woodland to reach the access land. From there its a pleasant walk with expansive views to reach the pillar which is in vgc. Could easily be combined with Drygarn for a longer walk.
Lovely location.Parked at Soar Y Mynydd Chapel to the NE and cycled in on bridleway via farm ( Nant Llwyd. When you reach the farm the bridleawy goes between the farmhouse and the barns ) saw friendly farmer who pointed this out as I sailed past into his farmyard! Continue until you reach an obvious high point , then turn due S to the pillar. Great expansive views and peace and quiet. Pillar in vgc.
Parked due N at the high point near cattle grid. Cross open field then hug wood for half a mile to avoid gulies. Once you reach high ground take direct route SW following intermittent Quad tracks. Pillar in clearing at edge of woodland. Nice location lovely Feb sunshine for company.
Another visit to my favourite area of Wales.Pared to the S ofHome Farm near Cilycwm. Footpath across fields then skirt woodland. Once you reach a track turn East for 50m then N up a grass path to access open hillside. A fairly good path leads across open ground to the pillar.
Revisit to my nearest pillar on a snowy evening walk from home. No change in condition.

My final pillar on the IOW and was hoping that it would be straightforward....not! Having driven to the top of Cranmore Road I thought it would be easy. I visited Halcyon and the gentleman there said it was fine for me to go and visit (GPS was showing 0.08 so knew I was close!!) met a lady in a car just up track who apparentely lived in the caravan but after I explained that I had already asked and smiled nicely(well as good as I can muster!) she was fine and pointed me in the right direction.Pillar in brambles and has views of the Solent through the trees. Given the proximity to accomodation I think it best to ask and not upset the residents especially as they are absolutely fine with people visiting.
Took a flyer on this one and drove past all of the "private" signs and "no turning beyond this point" eventually got to farm at Elmsworth and spotted chap on tractor....apologised profusely for ignoring signs and asked if he minded if I visited pillar. he was happy enough and even pointed me towards the gates that were open and led to the pillar.Pillar is good, next to flag pole.Great views.Flags down but could hear gunfire from a different area of the range.
Had plans for asking at farm but as earlier logs state this is not really an option as it appears that it is just a house now. Parked 100m SE near Elm farm and adjacent to small lake marked on Explorer. Then was an incredibly muddy walk for 1/4 of a mile to the pillar which is in newly planted field so had to seek a tram line. Pillar is in good condition.

Once again the ones that look simple on the map turn out to be the most awkward!! Parking is at gateway 300m West. Fast road and not a good place to stop. Could see no other parking/ access options without walking the road which I didnt fancy. Field full of cows and calves and a Hereford bull, decided to skirt edge just in case! Pillar good, limited views.

Had a look at a couple of approaches then decided to ask at farm, farmer was really nice despite fact that I disturbed him and his son when they were working in the barn! Directed me through farmyard to pillar which is in vgc.
The bulk of the pillar lies just to the N of the old location where there is a bolt. The spider has gone as well as the flush bracket. Access was gained as there was someone working within the fort when I arrived, after asking nicely was given permission to visit the site after being told to be careful not to fall in the moat.

Had 3 attempts at this over the duration of visit, found nothing despite relatively low vegetation. Think that the fence has been replaced as there is no opening into the field as described by Phil Richards, so all my counting of the fenceposts may have been a waste of time!! Not convinced that it is gone as see no reason why it would be removed.
Had a very good look for this and searched hedgelines for half hour but found nothing.

There are new barns adjacent to the pillar, not marked on my Explorer map.Had passed this way last year but gate was closed and it was dark so gave it miss. Drove up to farm and spoke to lady and her 3 dogs who was happy to point out pillar and interested to know a bit about it. Said her kids enjoyed playing on it so hopefully it will be there for a while. In vgc.Have to recomend asking to visit this one as it is pretty much in their garden and there were no objections whatsoever.
Same approach as others from Common Lane. Followed GPS from footpath which leads to easy entrance to wood near field junction. Then straight through unkept woodland to Ride. Go N for 15m and pillar is on the left. Condition very good.

The pillar has had the top 8" taken clean off. Does not look like a hedge trimmer as the blackthorn is as thick as ever. Suggest it could be deliberate by farmer? Access from the South opposite junction to Deane. Follow track, then field edge NE to pick up another track from Stubbs coppice that leads to the pillar which is behind maize cover for pheasants.
Simple access from rear of resevoir compound where the fence has been flattened. Suggest going on along byway for 50m and accessing field by gate. Middle of stubble field. Good condition.

Great location. Every now and then a pillar surprises by its low height but classic views. This is definately one of them. Superb 360 views including Cors Caron reserve. Footpaths are vague but this is Mid Wales!! Walked in from Ffair -Rhos then across fields above farm. Pillar excellent condition.
Another fine pillar in a wonderful setting. Parked upu to the North near Cwmberwyn, then was a sharp climb on access land. Even though we are in the middle of a dry spell the land here always seems to be able to produce vast areas of moving bog which can be a bit strange to walk on! Occasionally followed meandering Quad bike tracks across the worst bits as figured if it could hold a quad bike it could cope with my beer belly! Pillar is on small ridge with excellent views over Tregarron and further West.
I adore this area of mid wales and cannot fault it. Todays trio started with a cycle in from the South on well made track. At spot height 511 go west around small llyn up a muddy forest track. Once you reach the high point the area to theNorth has been clear felled - opening up some wonderfull views towards Llyn Du and beyond. Another classic and worthy of a visit. Pillar is in very good condition with some flaky painton the flush.
Revisited to get better photographs. Condition still very good. Exposed to farm and its a long walk back to the cover of the woods!

Thought I would save time and drive up to this one, decided it was a bit rude so asked at Dean Hill barn Farm (Bungalow) Spoke to owner who asked why I wanted to visit and said that he ad adopted Pillar? Was friendly and helpful and suggested I follow him up as he was going that way. As is on a footpath is not an access issue but if you pass you could say where you are going as he seemed interested that people visit them. Very good condition and in safe hands!! Great views .

After the fiasco of Northend I was hopeful the Southend would be straightforward...no. Head high thistles and the noisiest Partridge to alert the farmer to my trespassing was not a good start! Pillar is easiest to access by driving down towards the main farm. Park outsid first barns. Over gate then imediately into field on your right, this saves crossing the fence later.Pillar in v good shape,ok views and a Red Kite above.
Very frustrating this one. Had skirted rear of farm and was 50m from pillar when farmer came and told me to bugger off, even my usual pleading and explaining didnt wash so had to leave. This one is in full view of the farm from all directions. Tried again half hour later from the other side and he was still there!! I will return and wait until it is dark methinks!!
Found easily mainly thanks to earlier loggers directions. Limited views. walked straight up track from the NW, no signs saying private, take first right hand track uphill. Just past flat concrete area on left enter woods crossing diagonally above concreted area. Look for edge of bushes and then I cant better Father Teds advice / photos for the last 15metres. Glad to find it having read earlier logs!!

Second time lucky for me, and realised had been within 20ft of pillar at first attempt....more perseverance and less worry about a few scratches was all I needed!! Accessed this time from the lane to the NW. Best advice is to ...wear long trousers, go in winter and follow the S side of the wall for two thirds of the way then cross and make path through bracken and brambles. Pillar is very good condition, protected by trees which sadly block what I imagine would be amazing views.
After S2196 this was relatively pleasant apart from the fact I was still stuck in the nightmare of the Welsh valleys ! Easy access over fence ( gate out when I saw it!) Pillar good in small empty pasture field.

Pillar good condition.Have read other logs and must say that I experienced none of the smells, sights logged. Must just have been a good day as i am ( as anyone that follows my logs of the Welsh Valleys knows... ) one of the most scathing of the way the area is vandalised and abused. I still cannot believe that the local authorities run their respective areas and ignore fly tipping and desecration of the landscape without attempting to rectify it. They should all be in court. Have travelled length and breadth of UK and still think these valleys are enough to make you give up hope, how do they live like this?? Passed a caravan on a slip road in Blackwood, it was being used as a skip and had been there for weeks if not months and the locals just drive around it !! Dire. Leave them to rot I think... If they cant even notice they are living in a shithole then maybe they in best place ?
One of the more pleasant valley pillars, good safeish parking to the NW near house. Hillside badly scarred by bikes but all quiet today. Pillar is badly damaged around the spider but otherwise bearing up. Good views and picked a gap between showers to visit.My final pillar on OL13.
Had looked at a few options for accessing this and none were favourable. Eventually accessed from the NE on Byway that doesnt exist on the ground. Pass through grounds of cottage, over fence into woodland, then make way through scrub to the open fields. Pillar is in sheep pasture with good views. Good condition.

Walked in from farm at Llandre to the E. Permissive path through farm, spoke to friendly farmer who directed me towards bridge....which is 200m to the N of where it is shown on my Explorer.Then straight up through the woods on track, skirt W edge of woods to pillar. Rain stopped at last..typical Bank Holiday weather!. Pillar in good condition in sheep pasture.
Pillar is v good condition, about 40m from mast. Acces from FP to the SW. If you choose this approach make sure you go to the Right(SW) of the conifers just before you cross a stile into sheep pasture, if you dont you will enter gorse and bracken hell ! Is then straightforward around fields until gate that leads into pillar field.
Lovely spot, sadly mist was down so no views but the walking is quiet and the area is high on my list of great places to get away from it all. Parking v limited, best is a layby on the lhs 100 m before cottage if walking in from the S. There is no parking after the cottage and limited turning space (verified!!) The fenceline shown on Explorer to the N/ NW of pillar is actually just a few posts. Pillar in excellent condition on obvious high point.
Usual miles of lanes to access location. Done 100 miles with failed power steering so did battle with the lanes as I am stubborn and wanted one more find for the day! Pilar behind farm just into pasture.

The easy way to this is to drive up the road until you meet the bridleway, then take gate 50m SW and straight uphill to pillar.... but that would be dull! Much better to park 400m SE, over fence, play hide and seek with a herd of cows and calves, wade into bracken...wade out agin and follow wall until you reach fence. Follow uphill then carefully negotiate fence and wall to get to pillar .....easy !!
Gets the 7 for the views. The approach is badly scarred by off roaders. Walk from due W at high point, followed track which links with the off roaders damaged track. The views stretch off to the NE with a wide scar of a track for 4x4 s. No would would think there are already hundreds of thousands of miles of roads for vehicles ( most so badly maintained that they are only suitable for 4x4s anyway!!) that they still have to drive up the hills.Anyway pillar is badly damaged with the flush half exposed.
Wonderful approach off the Offas Dyke Path, then lost path in the bracken. What followed would have been embarrassing if anyone had seen.... a grown man cursing and sweating his way through thigh high heather..only to re discover the path 50ft from the pillar. Bugger. Returned a different way but the paths are unclear so made a hash of that as well! Pillar is good, with excellent 360 views.

Gets the high score because I found it in summer!! What a pig. Only advice I can offer over what others have already given is wait until winter. Ok...more helpful advice... go to N end of layby and pillar is at 1 O Clock. Is really one of those that you have to persevere with. This was my second visit of the day, cost me 1x pair of torn trousers, 1x lost sunglasses and enough scratches to make me look like a vagabond in Asda Pwllheli !! The joys of trigpointing...at least I will not have to go back...unless......

Lady at farm said that people used to visit often but no one since last year. Offered cup of tea and seemed glad to have someone to chat to. Been there since 1964 and had lots of stories to tell. Lovely location. Cycled in from the Abergwesyn mountain road past Llyn Y Gwaith, there is a firebreak that leads out onto the hillside 200m from the pillar. Pillar in good condition with expansive views.
Parked in layby just S of Craig Y Nos on A4067. Familiar ground as my dad was evacuated to Ystradgynlais as a kid and remember visits down here from 25 years ago. Walk in on bridleway (notshown on map) . Ignore bridleway after 20m , continue on path, cross fence then straight uphill following fenceline. At high point take any of numerous paths going SE. Confusing hill in the mist. Today great views and perfect walking conditions.Pillar has some grafitti and cracks but otherwise not too bad condition.
Third visit, first doing welsh hewitts and second when passing. Returned for photos. Expansive views.Pillar stone built. Remains of old pillar scattered amongst the rocks. Lovely location and the first time that I have been able to see more than 20ft!!
Wonderful walk up,managed to just say ahead of a group out of the Sennybridge traning camp but guess they did have bigger packs than me! But as most looked like they were about 20 think I did ok!! Pillar is badly damaged with a large chunk gone from the SE corner. Army checkpoint next to pillar and think they thought I was a bit odd, never mind. This was my third visit but had no photos.
Re visit for site photo. Great views, lovely location. The patch where the pillar should have stood has an obvious square of grass concurrent with a stone base. Searched surrounds again but without too much hope!
Another lovely location, spoilt by windfarm, but great place on edge of Clocaenog Forest.Good views. Pillar just on access land . easiest access from lane to the SE.Good condition.
Gets a 9 only because I found it! Tried the obvious approach from the N, but after 30 minutes crawling around (literally) in the Stika and getting very frustrated I retreated to the car. Then decided to give another go. Easy option follows: Take track from minor road junction at approx SH963597, follow track for approx 400m, branch left then follow to high point. Path crosses a gravelled turning area with a rope strung above. 25ft past this there is a break in the trees ( only 1 treeline wide) at (logged) SH 96982 59600. Follow this break to the N for 200 m which leads to a clearing. Cross diagonally then push through 20ft of trees to acees clearing with pillar. I hate these and have nightmares about getting lost in the forest with no one looking for me....dont do what I do make sure someone knows where you are !Glad its one less forest one to confront.Pillar is good and protected.

Think I may have to concur with PhilPamAndRob. Made a mess of my map reading and walked past the apparent new site twice and saw nothing. Did not have benefit of knowing it was moved but this will go down as possibly missing until I am corrected .
This one is now recumbent. Has been recent harvesting activity but no reason for that to have been a factor as immediate woodland is untouched.Nice easy access from North then a scramble across felling debris.

Absolutely lovely morning for re visiting this pillar, last seen when doing Offa s Dyke many years ago. Could see this from last nights campsite and had been looking forward to it. Pillar good.

Parked at hotel to the N then follow Offas Path. Took wrong choice and opted for gung ho straight up approach through heather.....when will I learn! Please dont do this ,go around ! Is knee high and bloody hard work! Pillar...when you get there is good with stunning 360 views. Returned a different way!Just read Father Teds log.....great minds think alike !

Short approach from the S with ok parking. Views good but weather closing. This replacement pillar is in good condition with the original lying nearby. Not sure what it is with these folks down here but they really have taken fly tiping to a new level.....literally!
Lovely views tricky ascent! Approached on a footpath through the quarry that soon disappeared on the ground! manufactured a way through the fields and fences and eventually popped out at the edge of the quarry with the pillar 50 ft away. Return the same route but sure there are better approaches. Superb views, pillar stone built and in good condition.Agree with previous logs the bridleway best option. Quarrying seems to be in a more northerly direction so hopefully pillar will survive albeit only 20ft from edge at present.
Gets a seven as imagine views must be superb, sadly caught early morning mist so visibility down to 30m. Tought it would be easiest to walk in from N off end of track, was straightforward enoughbut there are at least 7 gates to open and close both ways which gets a bit tedious!! There are plenty of options for this pillar and may well return when time allows as this is a quiet corner of a busy area. Pillar stone built and in excellent condition.
Stonebuilt pillar with glorious views. Had just done Cadair so was feeling lazy and opted to drive as close as I could! There is a good road ( 2x gates) from the SW which leads to within a quarter of a mile, then it is open ground to the pilar. Just off "New Precipice Walk".
Latest of 4 visits but this one ws for sole purpose of visiting trigpoint. Walked up from Minffordd on usual track (parking £4.00 !!) then the scree slope from NE side of Llyn Cau. Lovely morning and summit to myself. Met the crowds on the way down !
This was a bit awkward,in the end I just climbed fence, in sight of house and farmyard and walked over ploughed field to pilar. No shouts so guess got away with it! Pillar is good condition.
Pleasant walk to this one. No sign of pillar at given grid, photo is site only.Had a good look in the small copse that is near but found no sign. The obvious high point is 40ft across the field where there is an interesting mound of earth ,this is actually a buried tank though with no evidence of pillar remains.

Fine summit with stone cairn sheltering stone built pillar. In good condition. Expansive views over to Eppynt ranges. Access from S park where forestry meets A483.the summit area is now clear felled so the access off the track is open and easy. Follow fenceline then cross near pillar. This is a wonderful area that deserves much more time spent on it than the fleeting visits I seem to make.
Easy acess,follow minor road then drive up to mast compound. There is a stile to the W of the compound that leads into the field with the pillar. Pillar in good condition in sheep pasture. Views possibly good but v misty today.
Access from the SW at spot height 312. Out of sight but open ground. Pillar is marked as on a fenceline but this has all but disappeared. Probably nice views but limited to 50ft today. Pillar in good condition.
Took direct approach from the NWW where a permissive path leaves the lane. This tracks around the hill and passes within 20ft of the pillar. Pillar in good condition. No views as very misty.
This had been on my list for a while so good to finally tick it off. Access from the SW on forrest track for 1.5km then minor track through tress to the East. Once out of forrest follow bearing to pillar. Ground surprisingly good for the area. Misty no views. Pillar in good condition in this quiet corner of Wales.

Walked in from the W on FP, good parking at high point of lane near mobile mast. Skirt wood then use track into inner area. Cross to NE side and pillar 50m from treeline. Leaning slightly but ok otherwise.
Drive up Byway to 300m S of North Way farm,parking where track branches R. Walked in past shoot party who then proceeded to refuse to allow me to return the same way as they were shooting across the path and the drove.......great! The beaters did send a fox out 20ft in front of me which took my attention away from the 2 mile detour I had to do to get back to my car! Pillar in pasture 20ft from track and in good shape.
Figure this is easier in winter than summer.Through hedge from field as track on my Explorer doesnt really exist on the ground. It is possible to drive two thirds of the way, take track towards Crouchestone Farm just past Wessex Raceway if travelling East on A354, follow up until you meet byway where there is ample parking. Pillar is good.

Lovely walk in from the SW, drive through Cwm Llinau, follow road past caravan park until it branches left. Park at junction by footpath leading S. Follow lane to the N ,through gate then up valley. At a point where the path kinks head straight uphill through gate. Excellent views of Cadair Idris and the Arans. Great location. Pillar in good condition near edge of plantation.
Short sharp walk up from the SW. part Glyndwrs Way (nice to re walk this as did the path back in 2003) part open hillside. Fine expansive views. Many marked paths do not exist on the ground which is typical for Mid Wales,but had friendly wave from farmer when returning to car so he was not concerned that I was not on a waymarked route.
Short walk but very hard going. Typical tussocky ground for the area. Boggy ankle twisting material. I approached from the NW,where the road enters the forest to the North there is a track that leads of south. Take this for approx 1km and there is a pull in on your left where a firebreak will take you out onto the hillside.From there it is every man/woman for themselves! No tracks and hideous bog took me 45 minutes to cover 1.5km. There might be easier ways but dont intend returning to find them!! Pillar in lovely isolation with fine views.Nice quiet location.
One of the nasties that I had still to log in this area!Parked up to the NE 300m up forest track that leads to Pwll y Bo. Folow track for 2kms,with good views both down into the valley and back to Drygarn.Follow the track until you reach a firebreak heading NW (edge of mature trees)then take this for approx 250m untill you reach high point on track . Force passage into trees to L to reach small clearing. Cross and pillar is 4ft into trees. Pillar is in good condition,protected from nature by forest.

Same approach at Sagina nivalis,from east on forest track.(approx SN892504 with good parking) This is not marked on OS but v clear on Satelite images,what is not clear is the fact that on these images it looks like clear fall but is in fact as previous visitor says 15ft conifers and densly packed. I had a couple of aborted atempts from due South of pillar with GPS showing approx 100m but didnt manage 20. Evenually retreated and followed track to the N of pillar location,there is a point off this track at SN88462 50344 where you only have about 15ft of trees to pass through to acess clearing. I wont make claims for accuracy of grid as the trees will start to interfere with readings as they get taller, but should be pretty close. Pilar had some views but these will disappear with time as the trees grow. Weather closing quickly so headed back same way. Pillar condition is good,low in the ground but guess has been protected by forest on and off over the years!
Opted for this as had not visited since learning of its demise at the hands of misinformed idiots. Thought I had better view before commenting. An act of vandalism in my opinion,little people wasting money. I suspect half are outsiders and half never visit here... but at least it gave them something to put in the council minutes and tell their friends. I suppose to some degree the hill was already spoilt by the aerials,but whoever thinks knocking something down just for the hell of it when it has been there for years needs to get out a bit more.Why could they not just build a Toposcope next to it?? View is good even on a claggy day. 18-5-2009,Must say am surprised by frenziedfrog not being bothered about the dissappearence of the trigpoint...seems to defeat the object of trigpointing to me ,why dont we just knock the whole bloody lot down and replace them with toposcopes! Didnt say they should not built a toposcope, actually think they very useful and informative, said they could build one as well as there is enough space.
This is my closest decent hill pillar,always nice for a quick revisit to clear the cobwebs! Grey cold and zero views but still worth the effort.

Absolute pain . Approache from the East is not viable. The farm has erected fences everywhere regardless of lawful rights of way.The bridge over a drainage ditch is nothing more than a plank that creaks as soon as you put weight on it! Could see no access under M5 either so retraced and accessed from the West.

Walked in from just past M Way bridge (police speed van on bridge over M4 and hidden from traffic below behind sign the crafty bugger!)See no reason why you cant drive to this one ...the S Wales formation fly tippers have been out in force ( I swear there is no part of the UK that suffers the level of illegal dumping that S Wales does,I counted 4 wheels,2x televisions 1 x Fridge and half a fitted kitchen and that was without looking too hard!) Add to this more manic dogs than you could shake a stick at and a pillar you can barely see this one is for the completists I think!

Lovely walk and surroundings. Parked up atgolf course and followed edge of nature reserve till it clears golf course then acoss to the pillar. Next to largestone shelter. Pillar is in good condition with extensive views of all the main peaks in this area of the Brecon Beacons.
Lovely walk in quiet Beacons surroundings. Boggy start from the NW on permissive path that by- passes farm.Steady climb up slope then follow the ridge with good views. Pillar near stone shelter. Extensive surface cracks on all faces mean it goes down as damaged.

Gets a 7 because I know the views are lovely really because I visited this pillar during my round of the Welsh Hewitts a few years back. Today was a stinker,20m visibility and driving rain.Had planned a longer walk but opted for a short circular from the South taking in the pillar. pillar condition good ,next to Boundary marker. Some snow still lying.
This was my third visit to this top,but the first since I have been trigpointing, so required another walk to take photos. Opted for an approach from the SW as 2 previous visits have been from the NE.Parked just before Devils Staircase it is then a straightforward climb up open hillside to gain a forestry track through wood. Then headed out across hill to intercept bridleway that leads to summit. Even though part frozen this is still wet ground but I think slightly less than the approach from Pen Y Gorllwyn. Pillar has surface damage near spider but otherwise is ok. Lovely area which must rank as one of the quietest walking spots in Wales. Wonderful.
Had planned to visit this one for a while but always put it off as the open hills appeal more than forestry. It looked as if it could be a bit awkward and had toyed with different approaches. In the end settled for a walk in from the North East off A458 (great biking road by the way!)from SH949129 you drop down to a ford which could be a problem after heavy rain,was about 8" deep today but surprisingly strong as the spaniel discovered ! The path then leads onto open hillside for approx 2km then into forest, from here is quite straightforward, the OS mapping is good. The views from the pillar are limited but ok. Best ones are from the walk in ,today had snow dusted Dovey Hills to look over.Very pleasant place and,for forestry land quite enjoyable.Pillar is to SW side of mast just at tree line.In very good condition .

Re visit to photograph Approached from the NW,parking same as Rhayader Wanderer. Pleasant stroll and able to make a circular route with no trouble. Views over the windfarm and Pegwn Mawr that I visited a few days ago. There is a Mobile phone mast/compound just over fence from the pillar that I do not recall from my earlier visit, but maybe age is catching up with my memory!

The PROW mentioned by rhayader Wanderer does not appear to be marked up yet,and as this may only take you part way an easier route is off thelane due N,skirting the small copse.This is out of sight all the way to the pillar.
This was another one that had been down for a visit for a while but not got around to it. I think there may be access for vehicles so as you can drive to,but decided I needed the exercise so cycled in from the NE,lanes give way to good forest tracks.There has been some clearing near the pillar which itself still stands surrounded by a few conifers. Thee are much harder forest ones to locate than this one,and it is easier than the map suggests.Pillar in good condition.the views are limited from the pillar itself,but good from back on the forrest roads.
Sited in the middle of what was(and may still be) the largest windfarm in Europe. Expansive 360 views including a snowy Cadair Idris. Walked a circular route from Bryn Dadlau to the NE.The pillar is badly damaged at the top with the spider nearly completely exposed.This was also my final pillar in a 50km radius from my home co ordinates.
One of only two that I have not visited within 50 mile radius of homeso was pleased to get this one! Tried to get permission but no one(apart from dogs) at home. Approached from East across fields but didnt fancy entering garden(braving said dogs!) so took picture from fenceline.

Surprisingly pleasant location with better views than the map suggested. Accessed from the end of minor road due East(the road down to the carpark at the bridge mentioned by other visitors is badly damaged and probably accesible by 4x4 only.Parking at top available). ROW then forrest tracks to pillar. pillar has wire looped between hooks but otherwise in fine shape.
Pleasant walk up from the SW on permissive pathe just where (felled)woodland ends. Up the slope then handrail the edge then fence to pilar.Fine views pilar in good condition.
Re visit to photograph. The condition remains unchanged the slight cracks do not appear to have worsened since my previous visit. Excellent views ,same simple approach from the A4059 as before.
Lovely walk in from the SE. Parked along track that leads to Anglers retreat then across hill and handrail fence to pillar for ease of navigation. Weather cleared just after I reached pillar with glorious views 360. pillar in good condition within stone shelter.Drove back home via Devils Bridge/Cymystwyth and Elan Valley - one of my favourite routes.
Revisit to photograph. Walked in from the East on lane then ROW. Quiet,unspoilt and scenic. Weather could have been better but tis Wales! Pillar condition remains unchanged with the same access into the fencedcompound as before (ie a hole cut big enough to just walk in! ) Pillar protected from worst of conditions by trees.My original photo shows pillar leaning badly....it isnt,I just must have had a few too many the night before.

Had visited these hills in 2003 whilst completing a round of the Welsh Hewitts,so I was looking forward to my day. Walked in from the waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr via Llyn Lluncaws,continued past pillar to take in Cadair Bronwen, then retraced steps to Moel Sych and the permissive path back to the falls. Weather superb,clear blue skies and warm (for November!)sun,with the tops of Snowdonia poking through the valley cloud. Great walking with snow drfts still lingering.Pillar is quite damaged on the top but otherwise in good condition.
Re visit to photograph. Continuation from Badland hill,more snow filled paths but a lovely area that is often overlooked for more popular locations.Scenery is good,not dramatic ,but well worth the effort.

The snowfall from earlier in the week had left some drifts up to 18"deep which for October weather is uite unusual! Pleasant circular walk from New Radnor taking in the trigpoint at Black Mixen and the distinctive Whimble.

Very pleasant location with extensive views.Approached from SE up field edge,cross path (ignoring Private no access sign) then straight up to pillar.Pillar is badly cracked around flush bracket height.
In the middle of horse paddocks.Approached out of sight from the SE corner over small stile.Pillar good.Looking at the other pictures it looks as if these paddocks are relatively new.
Followed By way then field edge.Newly sown field but crop only just showing and able to follow tractor lines to pillar which is near small copse.
Approached from due south on lane,edge of field then steep access land.4 Red Kite circling overhead and a Sparrowhawk seen on return.Pillar has pleasant location and good panorama.

I believe this has now gone.I had sketch and photos from previous visit (2005) and found a "Bernsten"sized hole in exactly the right place............but I was having a particularly bad day so will go with "Possibly Missing" ! Last of the day,approached from SE,gate that I crossed confused me as it had a post box attached then saw a cabin hidden by trees that are not marked on the Explorer map,that person is living my dream!! Gave a wide berth so as not to worry them. Crossed 2 x fields and Fences.pillar in V rough pasture but a lovely location.Pillar good condition.

Superb views and pleasant walk in. After the last pillar I decided to ask permission as paranoia had crept in that my movements were being relayed by some secret Welsh Farmer messaging system ! Anyway asked permission and was told I was at the wrong farm ...DOH! But also told that the farmer at the right farm always had a nap in the afternoon and maybe I could come back later .....DOH! Then informed there was a bull in the field .....maybe ... and if I came vback tomorrow the farmer would maybe put the bull away for me,I pointed out that I lived 95 miles away and he relented,told me to ignore the bull, dont worry about permission and then gave me directions! hurrah! Icould have got to the bloody thing in the time it took him to explain everything! But in fairness he was helpful, if you want to ask permission the correct farmer is at Pen-yr-allt, if you dont just go along FP to the East till out of sight and is not a problem to make way to pillar.
Gets a 7 because it was memorable for all the wrong reasons!Parked to the NE where my Explorer shows a footpath and walked in to pillar off it,returned to car to find bloke in Frontera blocking the road and livid!was convinced I was up to no good,denied there was any footpath even when I showed him the map! Startedasking me if I was alone and where were the other boys (think he thought I was casing the area or something ! .....he must get out more!)insisted that I was up to no good or why else would I have a camera around my neck ....What!! for gods sake what with the government spying on every move and farmers like him think emigration best option!! I reminded him that we live in a free country told him to take my number plate and call the police (and gave him my next location) then drove off before he realy lost it ...........maybe I was unlucky but be careful if you visit ! Pillar was good .
Easier than it lookes if you dont like asking permission! Park on B4310 in lay by to the SW,cross 1 field,over fence,cross track ,over gate by phone mast and you have arrived ! all out of sight. Ok views didnt linger.Pillar fine shape.

Memorable for all the wrong reasons. As getting late tried to save time and legs by parking near high point then into access land. Got bogged down in gorse,extracted myself only to find in field of lively bullocks,crossed one of the worst barbed fences have come across,found pillar,then tried different route back and nearly walked into Barbed wire at face height in gloom ,Not good. Glad to get home for a beer..............and that was supposed to be an easy log!! Pillar was good ,ok views.

Walked in from SE,tried for access land approach but all gates had wire on so just walked in over farmland. A farmer approached but did not tell me I shouldnt be there.pillar has great views across to Brean Down,and is near an abandoned (and filled) ROC post.
Not simple to acess but had worse. Lane to SE.Most gates have barbed wire tops which is a bit sad.Excellent viewpoint,short but steep climb.Pillar good condition.(suffered same fate as daihatsu-boy here re Craghoppers,seem to get through so many pairs!)

Drove towards Lobb farm on track under M40,then followed to West of Farm buildings.Parked up and walked track uphill past a empty house.Plenty of M Way noise but still saw Red Kite from 15m.Pillar marked on Explorer as being on hedgeline but is middle of field. Good condition ,hazy views.
Tried the Bridleway first then discovered easier just before footpath to the S,where you can access the field ,pillar is in hedge to West with flush facing.Good condition.
I was correct in assuming in deep in hedge,had to searche even with GPS. Flush faces road and definately would be easier in winter ,still unsure how I failed to find field side 3 weeks ago.

Re-visit to photograph.As with Llanvair that I also visited today,am amazed that these hills are ignored! This was my fourth visit in two years but only one with camera. Last visit here appears to be over 3 years ago but most visitors would find this a stunning location ...so if you are reading this come and visit ,the Welsh Marches etc are well worth the effort .

Grotty,horrible.Worried as left dog in car for the two minutes took to run there and back. Access from end of estate through gap by water tower. Not the prettiest area of Wales, but the problem is the people not the landscape........am sure the trees dont set themselves on fire and strew broken glass around their base! Miserable.saw several security firm vans and even the buses advertise the fact they have CCTV both inside and outside to encourage people to use public transport in safety! Personally a car with the doors locked and the first road out is preferable!Pillar itself surprisingly good shape for locale.

Another Valley Pillar in a bad way.Walked in from the road but guess is driveable if you wish. Transmitter station surrounded by rubbish.Pillar half gone and in sorry state. Views ok.
Cant add much to earlier logs.Rhayader covers most points. Parking is not good but can either go through barriers at entrance to track that leads to Llaneignor or bin it beyond the white lines like I did. Good views.

Lovely circular walk taking in three tops.Started and finished at "Green Cottage" to the SE. The hard part is the 460m ascent from the start,the rest is a bit easier! Summit is rocky and familiar from my round of the Welsh Hewitts. Pillar has some surface cracks but nothing too bad. Did not see a soul in 9 miles,and the weather was excellent.
Simple access form the West on driveable lane with parking next to gate that gives access to pillar(if only it were always this easy!)Pillar has very good views although a little hazy today.Good condition.Seems I had a near miss with Hartryggers !

Thought I would try approaching from the Church in Bettws Newydd as it was a pleasant day and fancied a longer walk. This is a pleasant approach but a bit awkward with the dog as there are many stiles etc with no dog space! Farmer was grass cutting in field next to pillar but didnt see me. Pillar in good condition in hedge. PTF
Good straightforward access from the NE.Drive to end of "yellow" road then you can go through gate ,turning and parking 25ft. Permissive path leads to summit and pillar is nearby. Once again I find myself thinking that this is one of the most beautiful parts of Wales ,have been in all weathers and still find places that I wish I had longer to enjoy. Pillar is good and all intact.
This is a lovely hill in a beautiful location.short sharp (220m) climb from the SE .Superb views and all the solitude you want, one of those places to sit for a while and reflect.
My 1800th log,and a lovely place to be.Access from the NW on a permissive path that leads to the top. Excellent views in all directions on this rare dry almost sunny day! Pillar is very good ,no real signs of damage.Parking at approx 615332,is a passing place but is also a dead end road so for the twenty five mins it takes should not be a problem.V pleasant location for my 18ooth log.
Parking in quarry entrance ,easy to access but agree withearlier logs that it has long gone.(Wanted to use this as access to Llethr-llwyd but unless I screwed up badly the By-Way marked stops at Garn Wen. Had taken bike and was not impressed so opted for another log for my 1800th!)
Parking to the S in another lay-by with at least 15 bags of fly tipped rubbish and various other bits of crap.Hillside much the same,even found part of a fridge 100m from the road ! Par for the course down here unfortunately.Pillar has extensive views N to the Brecon Beacons. Raced a heavy storm back to the car and glad was my last of the day! Pillar in good condition and has escaped the treatment some nearby ones have recieved.

Nice viewpoint.pillar in good condition ,cant relax until I find the car still with its wheels on upon my return.Usual dumped rubbish on road up. Some of the locals may be pikeys that dump crap everywhere but I bet the decent folk still pay council tax ,so why dont the council clear fly tipped rubbish down this way? Maybe they think its a tourist attraction ? Personally if it wasnt for the pillars I would never ever visit this area. Am sure am not the only person to feel this way ,so think how much revenue (eating out,re visits,shopping etc. The area has lots to offer in terms of scenery and access but until they reign in the local oiks there is no hope) they will continue to miss out because everywhere looks like a landfill site. Sad place.

This was a pain to get to,the ever not to be trusted Sat nav tried to take me in from the North but road not good at all ,so tried from South and a little better. parked at gateway and turned (just) but is not good in any way. hurried to pillar which has fine views of Cardiff bay.Pillar in good condition 6ft from path.Edit: have read Father teds log and suppose must agree is not really parking spot ,but if you are quick and cheeky think its ok :)

Very popular area with scramblers and local yoof,both of which left me nervous enough not to leave my car unattended on my first two attempts at this! The walk itself is straightforward, if you dont fall on broken glass, get run over ,have your car broken in to,get verbally abused ....the list is endless.come here on a sunny Saturday and enjoy all that S Wales has to offer ! Pillar is located 100m SW of high point.One point of note,if aproaching from the West and using Sat Nav it will send you up an impassable lane from Penrhiw,it is steep narrow and awkward to reverse down once you realise! There is a notice at the North end advising you to ignore Sat Nav systems but nothing at the South side which seems pointless really as once you have made it there you will retrace your steps probably.
Again am surprised by state of pillar! Lots of detritus on the way from the road and near pillar but no major damage.Pleasant views and easy log.
Surprisingly good shape for an accesible pillar in the valleys!Very good views in all directions. Drove to end of road at approx 285041 then short walk up on track.
This was my third attempt at this and one of the few I am missing in the area. First two attempts were thwarted by shoot parties. Chose a miserable wet dull day to tramp through some of the worst kept farmland I have seen. Even with all the info could not even locate the pond ,maybe a bad day ,maybe it has gone. Will have another look but am puzzled !
A relatively simple pillar made difficult by the monsoon "summer" that is drawing to an end. Took scenic route from the NE which entailed many stiles ,two crossing of a swollen stream and so much shouting at the dog to keep him from the water that I bet he wished I had left him in the car! Pillar now enclosed between 2 fences with Bullocks in both fields.No views as wet, miserable, cold ,grey, dull and horrible enough to make a man consider emigrating.
Parking in gateway to the SE.Bridleway then stile.Onto ridge with fine views.Caught a cloudburst on the way back that kept me wet for 25 miles!Pillar in good condition.(pics pending)
This was another that looked a pain on the map but was fine on the ground.Parked on the lane to the NW by house entrance.Followed footpath that skirted house then across fields to the pillar which is 10ft into wood over a fence.(Photos to follow but having problems with new camera!)
Excellent views over Black Mountain. Drove part way up from the West on ROW,pleasant walk after with nice views of in coming rain!Pillar in v good condition.
Short steep climb from the SE. absolutely no views whatsoever! What an abysmal dreary dull depressing summer.Imagine this is a fine location as the scenery when I dropped out of the mire was quite good. Pillar is good and located on edge of an old fort(although for all I could see it may as well have been located on the edge of Atlantis!)
This appeared harder on the map than when I got there.parking just inside wood to the West,follow path straight up ,go left at junction then Right at next ,follow this untl it meets a fence which leads to a gate and open pasture containing pillr.Good views pleasant walk .Think wood is private but unless you are unlucky would be surprised if you meet anyone.Pillar in good condition .
Parking at the end of farm track,follow for 150m then across fields,mainly out of sight.Not sure if farm is occupied but tracks suggest it is worked.Observed a fox when at pillar that didnt seem too concerned by anything! Good views if the weather had been better,visited early morning after leaving waterlogged campsite visible from pillar.There is also an old ROC post within 50ft of the pillar.
Following on from my reading logs by Dusty thought would check this as well. Took my original pics etc but could find no trace,have to go with possibly but guess next few logs will confirm one way or another.
Having read the log by Dusty and being in the area thought would have a look ,this has definately gone but dont know why ,has to be a deiberate removal as nothing else changed.
This was the 4th time I had been here and still drew a blank.I am sure it is hiding somewhere but not sure how to find it ...credit to Iainmac for the only sucessful find.
Easy access from the West,biggest danger is letting your car out of sight in these valleys(speaking from experience)! I cant love these places ,and coming straight here from the edge of Abergwesyn Common near Beulah the contrast couldnt be greater. Pillar in good condition for the area with none of the graffiti and vandalism that usually greets you at pillars in this area.
Lovely location tucked away in some of the finest scenery in Wales.Views on a clearer day of Drygarn and the surrounding tops. Parked at end of dead end road at approx SJ 906537.Same approach as mickandshane,but bridleway so overgrown not passable,retraced to forest and then followed fenceline to open hillside.Pillar is stonebuilt in a hollowed out cairn.
Cant get too excited about these,but for the sake of completion.....!

This is a lovely little hill with excellent views,sadly it is also very accessible for the local yoof,with obvious results!Paint has been cleared off flush bracket numbers.Having read other logs am surprised that this ammount of paint and graffiti doesnt count as damage!
The first visit for two years and I had no more luck than Keith Stevens.Long grass and even with the sketch and Iainmac's pictures I still drew a blank.I agree with Keith that it appears that the sign has been moved ,a fact that probably affected where I searched .....but now i am just making excuses!...
Nice easy find ,in good condition inside protective railings.
Excellent views over the coast and inland.Pillar nearly on access land - which is knee high in gorse and waist high with bracken,very nice! It is much easier on the wrong side of the fence in sheep pasture but you are overlooked.Pillar itself is in good condition with some erosion around base but nothing too bad.
Nice walk from Barford St Martin,bridleway from NW corner of estate then field edges to within 150m of Pillar.Tractor tracks the rest of the way.Pillar is in good condition with lovely views to the S.
Walked in from A30 to the N.Good parking at bridleway near Naishes Farm. Followd until it cut Bywayto SW then 1km to NE . Followed field edges to pilar which has a bird scarer nearby! Nice area near Fovant Badge. Took quick route off direct to the N then back to car.
Pleasant walk from John Deere showroom on A360. Sun shining and all quiet.Pillar is about 50m off Byway and easily accesible.Nice views .
Return visit as failed due to flags the other day(dont like to be beaten!) Drove up Milston Drove and cycled the rest of the way,ample parking to L and R at first Tank crossing. All quiet and superb views.Concur that they appear like bullet holes ! Otherwise in good shape.
Cycled up to this from Enford Farm,was surprised to meet a Byway that is not marked on my Explorer map ,folowed this to the West as there was a Ranger in a 4x4 patrolling .Then cycled bridleway to the West(still no visible sign on the ground ...an excuse for being 100m off ROW maybe?!..but be carefull!) as far as a tarmac track that leads NE to the pillar.Another thanks to Bluebeard for uncovering flush,brick still there and replaced after i took pic! nice location .
Was unable to get close as flags out.From other logs am guessing this is gone.Will try another time.
Lovely views,major "pig" area ! Cycled up frm Rushall Manor on ROW then passed in front of rushall Barn en route to pillar.Great views and pleasant riding. Pillar on West side of fence just outside range .Am going with slightly damaged as there is a significant crack near the base .... will see what future visitors think!
Excellent place . All pillars should have views like this! Walked up from Llanthony woods via ROW. Was short on time which was a shame because the weather and views could have kept me for hours.Lovely views down on to Llanthony Priory from the path. Pillar is stone built and in good condition. Came past here in 2002 when on round of Welsh Hewitts but had no photos.

Second visit to this place as I only knew about first pillar! Lots of activity today so did not approach pillar ,which is visible from the South of the compound.

Pleasant walk on Bridleway that leaves the road just SE of Boyton where there is good off road parking.Pillar next to resevoir,and on Wessex Ridgeway.
Approached from the Bridleway then skirted fields,tractor line to pillar.Good views,currently a field of wheat.Pillar in good condition.

Walked in on bridleway from the SE. Was concerned this was going to be inside the Fort grounds as this was v overgrown,but pillar just over fence on N corner.In good condition and a quiet pleasant location.

Beautiful upland area currently being desecrated in the name of renewable ? energy .I envisage a day not that far from now when you will not be able to stand on a hillside in Mid Wales and see the natural skyline . The pillar has been guarded by four wooden stakes while they built a turbine base next to it ,but the sense of remoteness has gone with the access roads and the concrete. Yet another part of Wales that has sold out . Pillar in good condition in a once lovely location.
walked in from the parking area at the S end of Caban coch resevoir. A couple of fields then open hillside with wonderfull views.The pillar is on the edge of a stone built shelter. Didnt have time today for Drygarn sadly. Have been here on 3 other occasions but had no photos!

Wonderfull location right on NW edge of Dartmoor. Expansive views and a lovely walk from the Church at Sourton.Pillar slightly damaged but its location makes it worth a visit!
Surprisingly pleasant walk near to China Clay works. Good views and missed the rain!

Hdden in a patch of gorse with the sheep being noisy enough to attract attention from farm was a quick run to and back! Good condition and nice Devon lane location.
Lovely little outcrop with expansive views. Access easy off A38 but still has a wonderfull view of some lovely Devon contryside and the edge of Dartmoor.Highly recomended and on access land . Pillarnext to fence and in good condition.

Visited after a visit to the vilage of Imber ,open as usual during the Easter break. Well worth a visit especially the church . Pillar is alongside a ROW and walked in from the B390 from Chitterne. Pleasant views.
It is possible to drive to within 50m of the pillar on a Byway. would be a pleasant walk with more time. Good views ,just outside compound.

Couldnt find easy access and had parked badly, so settled for view over perimeter.

Made a meal of this over Christmas ! Got into garden and had a scout around before logging in and realising had walked past it ,bugger ,so a return visit came up with better result! Good views .

Dissapointed not to have had the balls to run over to this one !! But an active base and do they need people climbing their high (5ft 6") fence ! Good security for a major UK base .Pillar looks fine from a distance .We had a good but muddy walk in from the West.
Pleasant summit with good views.We walked in from S hoping to miss the showers .Badger sett under the pillar(pretty sure entrances are too big for rabbits ,and the pooh all around is not rabbit either!).The Beech trees nearby provided cover from the rain but it can still be quite an exposed hill .
Second attempt at this pillar ,how the hell we missed it the first time i dont know! Lowlight of first attempt was spaniel / electric fence encounter (again) and so maybe i was distracted! anyway its fairly easy at this time of year and a lovely walk in from the parking to the NE . Good views from the nearby bench.

Located in the corner of garden,i didnt enter as there appeared no one at home.
Nearly roadside,good viewsof Snowdonia.As others have mentioned,accessing the field is not necessary to get flush number.
Paid a return visit now the pipeline people have finished ,actually found better access from road junction to the NW ,then diagonally across fields to the pillar ..which has escaped destruction by about 30 ft. The pipeline is fenced off ,and already becoming harder to spot from a distance than it was only a couple of months ago.
End of my circuit around the "Fans" ,weather still grey and murky ,visibility about 30 metres at best ...normal Beacons stuff. Pillar in good condition ,muddy descent down to a very empty Lower Neuadd Resevoir ...lowest i have ever seen it.
Miserable grey weather ,most recent of about 20 visits in all weathers,but first since began logging Trigpoints so decided must pay a visit .Large cairn ,again i have no memory of the pillar being here.
Long been lost,have no memory of seeing this one even though this circuit has been a favourite for last 15 years.
Walked in from the road to the SW followed footpath for 150m then cut diagonally accross the fields following the fenceline and dodging the cattle.Got reprimanded for parking on private ground at road junction ....a 6 acre field with the car entirely off the track ...how much bloody space do these GOMLs want??

Easy to access of the lane,limited parking but on a ROW .Hazy views.Just checking my maps in an idle moment and this is completely missing on my Explorer 186.
Got absolutely beasted by brambles on this one .Had taken a look at it from the NW and decided an approach from the SW was more viable ,following the line of the wall to the junction then hence to pillar ,30 mins later bloodied and cursing i admitted that it was a winter pillar ....armed with a machete! and so left ...well bloody annoyed. Edit:Found second visit.
Excellent viewpoint,lovely short walk in ,found best parking to the NE ,where you can walk back down th road and access the fields from there.

Ianmac was correct on this occasion ,having scoured the field edge ,i finally located the pillar just behind the Masts.It looks like it has been sited properly and not just dumped so will in all probability stay where it is now! Didnt get gps fix but if you aim up through the woodsfrom the South and when you go over the gate the mast is on your right ,its just behind the compound.As a small bonus it was my 1600th log.

Chose the lazy access from junction of farm tracks ,where there is ample parking.One open field to cross but out of sight nearly all the time. Pillar on SWCP,leaning but stable.
Had to setle for a zoom shot .Walked res compound fence and found nothing ,so went on down road and in to field there,pillar was visible but in a field of cattle (evil things!) and also a farmer ,so climbed bank and did my best!
Lovely walk up from Bude on the SWCP ,parked near the harbour and had a wander around ,been about 15 years since have been to the area.Camera played up at pillar and had visions of more "cheap week away" expense ,but recovered soon after.

I struggled with this one,climbed bank twice from the lane,accessd field from both sides and still did not get a sniff of a pillar .It may be buried as they are down this way ,deep in the hedge but will be a winter log that gets a good photo!

In a wall almost ,flush cannot be accessed but you can get a picture by sticking the camera in the space. Good views of Roughtor Moors over the Stannon Works China Clay Quarry.
Near to A Government Spy Post ,if you dont get you plate noted around here i will be amazed. Still at least they keep us safe .Funny how i felt more worried about " our side" being around here than any alledged opposition. Pillar is about 50 ft down (driveable) farm track.Good views.
Think my experience was an amalgamation of all the rest .Horses ..check ...Sheds ...check fail to find for ages....check .Eventually located in hedge but was then shouted at by someone enquiring what i was doing .So discretion being better part ...blah blah i legged it.

Pillar in good shape.If you are facing east its best not to follow the road on in to Polperro as its limited access to cars ,very narrow and a bit embarrassing when you have your mirrors folded in and still cant make the gap. !
Can be accessed various ways,i took the lazy option from the lane to the North,across one stubble field.Misty so limited views which was a shame.On a stone base in good condition.Just viewed ianmacs photos which makes it a shame my day was misty ..excellent views.Parking at NT park .
On North side of road,was uncovered so no problems,GPS gives slightly different reading than OS (see photo) .If its overgrown there is a small stud( see photo )in the tarmac and the block is 4' into verge.

A bit awkward ,accessed from road over Golf Course ,but then a group came into view as was trying to find/photograph pillar,so had to go through hedge and long way back to car!Pillar in hedge and slightly damaged.

If you are coming to this from TP3406 "Goodmerry" ,try and avoid the road that goes past Haye Farm as its awful! Really narrow and overgrown . Pillar loated about 30 ft from old fort ramparts .

Bit of a strange one,odd location not even near the high point in the area.Bit of an experience getting there ,through the garden on a footpath ,avoid the horses ,hoist dog over a stile ,cross railway line ,over another stile then into the bogs that class as as a footpath....the life of a trigpointer is rarely straightforward. After you get past this lot its fairy straightforward ,a couple of walls and a few sheep fields .On the edge of RAE Llanbedr but no sign of activity.Pillar in good condition with views back to edge of Snowdonia.
Wonderful location ,stunning views are the words i would use if it were not cloudy .. Shame really because the location is great ,pleasant walking and the gaps that formed on the way back give a taster of what would be on offer ... Cadair ,and the Coastline South from Barmouth . pillar is stone built like many in the area and accessed easily from the SW on ROWs ,The area is now access land so no issues there. Can recomend a camp site just North of Barmouth at Trawsdir ,not the cheapest but excellent facilities.
Excellent views and pleasant walking .Access is just off paths and as my map is a bit old am unsure if this is now access land or not. Pillar is in good condition.

Had aborted this one a while ago after seeing the beware of dog signs and thinking it was in grounds of house.Tried again as was in area and thought had cracked it but people in the field after i had scrambled up bank from road deterred me from going further.Managed a zoom shot and condition looked fine.

still gets a 5 despite its condition ,but only because it gave me the runaround ! Had tried earlier from the campsite ,but even having ignored all the signs instructing me to report to reception and the stares of the campers as i peered over the fence ,i decided that climbing into the field may be a step too far! So re tried from the East off the road and managed to avoid cows and calves andfinally reached the remains of the pillar. In a bad way with very little of the Spider covered .

Thought i would be good and pay attention to the private signs on the gate of the track that leads to the television mast and the pillar ,tried to access through the woods but with dog in tow the fences proved a pain,so tied dog to tree and crossed the field.Good hazy views ,pillar just beyond stone wall if approaching from the SE .

Just returned on Eurotunnel after a couple of weeks in S of France,and decided to come up here for a the pillar,and the view of the Terminus. Cylindrical pillar easily accessed off lane,no FB.
Stunning views over some of the high peaks of Snowdonia,pillar is of the stone built variety.Field of very lively cows and calves that kept me observant! Access of the lane to the South. Made a change of scenery after visitng some the pillars near London the previous day!
Was lucky with this judging by other logs,i turned up to see gates open and a skip outside,waited till someone came out then asked permission .Pillar is very green.With a ball on top ,Flush painted black.

Had tried for this pillar before from the North on ROW but had the Mutt in tow and been deterred by farm dogs. So went today "sans chien" ..sadly also went "sans le carte!" so having tried to remember where i meant to park eventually parked up to the South on a minor road and enjoyed a trip of about 2 miles on a GPS only .So professional ! Pillar is fine with excellent views of surrounding hills .

Lovely isolated position to the North of the Teifi pools,last pased this way a couple of years ago on a backpacking trip.Short walk from the South ,parking at cattle grid.The ground suggests that this could be a very boggy area much like the Drygarn area to the West,however after a dry April it was not a problem.Good views over a wild landscape.Red Kite are common . A nice place to visit.Pillar is in good shape surounded by stone shelter.
Am going with Rhayaders downgrade ,think it is borderline as have see worse but time will tell!Nice location ,had an early morning walk in from the NE on a RUP then a footpath to the cairn ,its a quick stride accross 3 fields from there ,no more than 15 mins.The weather ws stunning ,14 degrees at 8.30,...see there are bonuses to climate change! Pillar has good views and a peacefull location.(Stone removed from top since previous visit)

Looked in the hedge to the South for a while ,had no GPS ref so then started on N hedge,stepped over a fence to scan hedges in a horse field then carried on looking roadside ,nearly back at the car and this irate bloke came running over the field asking what the F i was doing on his land! I decided that he didnt look as if he wanted a conversation about concrete blocks so hopped in car and buggered off,some days ......
Half buried within a compound,too many people around for me to try and get in .Approached from the N on a ROW that is not marked on my Explorer.

Beautifull location on the edge of the Dovey hills.Took the option of the path at the Col on the A470 where there is good parking. very good views of Cadair Idris and most of the near peaks,just a haze making the distant ones indistinct.Great walking country ,my first visit to this peak since my round of the Welsh Hewitts.Pillar is a circular stone built one ,in good condition.Saw a pair of grouse just after leaving the top.
Another of the stone built pillars that you come accross,fine views and a pleasant short walk from the minor road that leaves the N corner of Lyyn Efyrnwy.This is a very popular place ,but have found that most groccles dont stray too far from the main paths so the hills are usually nice and quiet!Tough underfoot if covering long distances but always worth the effort.
Parking in the village or on a minor road that runs to the S W .Approach on a Bridleway that contours the hill then crosses a stream before climbing sharply past a disused mine shaft.There are some glorious views that open up as you climb higher.This is one of the finest parts of Mid wales and the solitude is wonderful.There is an option to continue to the fine waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr which gives a nice circular walk.Today was a lovely day with a sighting of a Perigrine and a Hen Harrier.The pillar is just below the summit with excellent views of the Berwyn.In good condition protected by a partial stone break.
My first pillar for a while and a nice one to resume with.Pleasant walk in between two small Llyns ,today one of them was occupied by a pair of Cormorants ,only the second time i have seen them inland the other being in Shropshire.Pillar occupies a fine setting with great views.Good parking to the SE .
Next to a monument ,plenty of options for walk in .Ok views.

Parking available in gateway opposite farm,as early adopted the same approach as rhayader nd just walked over to it ,v muddy and gained an extra couple of kilos of mud by the time i reached the pillar!
Easy access off lane,100m into field next to small pond.
Cant add much.It may have been moved but? Wet windy and a two and a half hour drive home so called it a day.
Amazingly the pillar has survived the 4x4 onslaught that has destroyed most of the path to the pillar.If you are walking to it suggest that you enter the field opposite farm drive and walk parallel to the proper path ......not that i would ever advocate trespass of course.

Impressive location,accessed from the West.Park by the Standing stones then take the permissive path to Silbury Hill.One fence at the top leads to the pillar.
Inside a small wood,then inside a deer proof fenced area.The gate opens easily enough ,take care to close as you find.My GPS reading is exactly where the Explorer map says the pillar should be,but the given grid is |
