The TP is now in the middle of a 20 yard wide buckthorn hedge. There are cut throughs in the hedge at regular intervals and one of these passes a couple of yards from the TP. I also think that the damage is such that it is most likely the result of a deliberate act.

Park at the start of the forest track just to the north. Head uphill to the SW until a concrete slab path is reached along the ridge top. By the gate, where this path goes into the fenced off area, a dome is just in sight. Various CCTV cameras are in operation.

If the gates are left unlocked at night, this is driveable for a goodly portion. Lots of fallen trees on last climb up to hill top.

The lid is missing but this does not in any way effect its function. Its condition is similar to a chip in the concrete next to a TP spider rather than actual damage to the spider.

If the TP has been damaged but its primary function has not been affected, such as when it has been touched by a hedge trimmer, then it should be recorded as SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. If the damage affects the TP's primary function (being a permanent base for a theodolite), such as when there is a permanent lean, then it should be recorded as DAMAGED.

Based solely on the map, this looked like it was going to be a quick in and out. HOWEVER the reservoir compound was high fences and locked gates. I walked all round the compound in a clockwise direction and eventually got into the field to the South and gained access to the TP.
2009-04-16 13:30 - TP2791 (Dizzard Point)
In my book, MOVED means at a different site from the original one and TOPPLED means flat on the ground. This trig is neither of these. It is leaning and can no longer perform the function for which it was designed. It is therefore DAMAGED !!! The paths in this area shown on the map are in dispute and some alternate permissive paths are being used. I approached along the coast path from Cancleave where there is also a small carparking area.

Off the bypass into the service area and then a quick walk up through the trees at the far end of the parking area.
2008-05-20 13:05 - TP5162 (North Hill)
I remember lambing time as generally always being at the same time of year. Now you can see new lambs from November to May.
2008-05-20 12:30 - TP5951 (Shipton Hill)
I always try to minimize the height I have to gain so approached from the sharp bend to the East.
2008-05-20 11:55 - TP5172 (North Poorton)
The grass was too long to make easy progress up the hill. Haytime soon ?
2008-05-05 17:10 - TP5789 (Sailors Folly)
went along farm track but then had difficulty getting into the field. from tp headed along hedge towards road (and gate!)
2008-05-05 17:00 - TP0231 (Harthill)
again initial search was fruitless but a second pacing from the gate was successful
2008-05-05 16:05 - TP0236 (Chargy Hill)
Found on second visit. this time my initial pacing found nothing but a review led me straight to it.
2008-05-05 15:30 - TP2127 (Chase End)

Went up through Dixton Wood from the bend near Black Barn on the Dixton/Alstone road.
2008-05-05 10:45 - TP7007 (Withington Hill)
Plenty of evidence on the ground of equine activity on the way out to the tp. Crept silently through the wood passing the in use training gallops on the way back.
2008-05-05 09:55 - TP5357 (Pen Hill)
passing under crackling pylon wires, is it any wonder that people have health concerns ?

2008-04-18 11:10 - TP0626 (Dulverton FBM Aux 1)
Using os diagram, tested my pace between gate post and telegraph post and then adjusted my pace length for second bit onto Berntsen. Found first time! For me, its most unusual that this worked, it normally doesn't.
2008-04-18 11:00 - TP0271 (Sowerhill)
Found easily using os diagram. As os bolts go, this was BIG.

2008-04-18 09:40 - TP0731 (Stoodleigh Beacon)
on a blowy day, there was the sound of the wind whistling through the ubiquitous mast close by.
2008-04-18 09:25 - TP7006 (Witheridge Moor)
tp is on extra 1/2 metre high base. is this as a result of ground erosion?

there are currently confusing ROAD CLOSED signs up at various junctions nearby while they do work on the road through Linwood.
2008-04-16 15:30 - TP1597 (Bratley Plain)
One of those tp's where you wonder why it was built here where the land seems dead flat. Walked in from the SECOND layby after a previous false effort in the wrong place.
2008-04-16 14:30 - TP5457 (Pistle Hill)
followed pebbled/gravelled forest tracks from my parking spot on the road to the west next to some waterboard cabinets

2008-04-11 15:40 - TP5314 (Parks Farm)

2008-03-14 14:05 - TP5467 (Pittern Hill)

2008-03-14 13:50 - TP6982 (Windmill Hill Farm)
more tram lines to follow from the road to the south
2008-03-14 13:20 - TP4436 (Little Barn Hill)

2008-03-07 14:15 - TP2020 (Castle Combe)
On my first visit in the summer I spent twenty minutes in the right area without finding anything. Now in winter plumage I saw it as I approached the cross hedge from along the track past the house on the lane.

around the tp are lots of molehills (with rounded pebbles in ?)
2008-02-29 13:50 - TP6003 (Skinners Green Farm)
Roadside in a hedge. TPs like this would be easier for the OS to use as passive gps network sites.
2008-02-29 13:30 - TP7439 (Newbury)
in between marconi road and ampere road is the headquarters of newbury electronics
2008-02-29 13:10 - TP7431 (Greenham Common)

Approached from the East on a rough track from Valley Road past an old car graveyard to ample parking opposite some horseyculture.
2008-02-16 11:40 - TP4568 (Lower Ley)
There are three main problems with this tp :- parking and lack of footpath signs and barbed wire. Without these problems it would be a pleasant stroll but all are surmountable.
2008-02-16 10:55 - TP2165 (Chosen Hill)
Someone has "liberated" the viewfinder top plate and there, underneath where it was, the spider is visible. This means the tp is not "definitely missing" but is rather normally hidden from view so I have given it a rating of "damaged".

the reservoir was being re-built/repaired but the tp has been left alone

2008-01-18 11:40 - TP3583 (Hambledon Hill)
this is what the national trust should be spending money on not victorian gothic mansions built by the newly rich out of money made from importing bird poo from south america
2008-01-18 10:40 - TP4764 (Melbury Hill)
well done to the national trust for buying this land. not so well done for allowing the mutilation of the tp.

2007-12-27 13:00 - TP2367 (Combe Beacon)
When I first saw the reservoir fence, I thought I was in for some vertical climbing.
2007-12-27 11:30 - TP7301 (Taunton)
Wandered all around the building trying to get a decent view of the roof but could see nothing like other stations seen.
2007-12-27 10:55 - TP6201 (Stoke Hill)
Give me land, lots of land, under starry skies above, don't fence me in.
2007-12-27 10:30 - TP5708 (Rock)
barbed wire fence post? because its there, why not?
2007-12-26 14:50 - TP4574 (Lowmans Farm)
these TPs that others find hard to find often seem very easy without summer vegetation
2007-12-26 14:35 - TP1643 (Broad Down)
found the BS noted on the map in the hedgeline to the south (boundary stone) but did not find or see the TP in the field or roadside hedgeline despite it being still on my "2003 revised" map
2007-12-26 14:05 - TP2983 (East Hill)
I went around the red and white tape around the knoll beside the road and there it was before I had really started looking for it
2007-12-26 13:35 - TP3799 (High Peak)
"nice view ain't it" said the couple allready on the TP viewing platform as I collapsed against the trig after a too rapid ascent of the last steep bit
2007-12-26 12:35 - TP6804 (West Down Beacon)
saw several family groups walking off the Christmas pud
2007-12-26 11:55 - TP0344 (Exmouth Promenade)

2007-12-26 11:40 - TP6111 (Squirrel)
the road is so narrow there is only one way to see this TP
2007-12-26 11:25 - TP4592 (Lympstone Common)

2007-12-26 11:00 - TP7036 (Woodbury Common)

2007-12-21 11:45 - TP5433 (Picked Hill)

I saw no St Bernards except where I parked my car.
2007-12-20 16:25 - TP6580 (Tresham)
I could see little in the fog and gathering gloom, so turned off the main farm track through a gate unto tractor tracks along a stone wall which appeared to be heading in the right direction. When the wall ended without the expected building, I turned north and following another stone wall, found the TP.
2007-12-20 15:55 - TP1069 (Barton End)
My first unsuccessful visit was with a print out of a Multimap page and without having read previous logs. On my second visit, after some research, I went straight to it.
2007-12-20 15:25 - TP1551 (Bown Hill)
The fog was really bad and I couldn't see further than about ten yards. Then I found that things improved when I wiped the condensation off the inside of my glasses!
2007-12-20 15:05 - TP7371 (Peglers Tump)
Uley Long Barrow, or Hetty Pegler's Tump, is a neolithic long barrow constucted some four thousand years ago. Hester "Hetty" Pegler was the wife of the landowner when the field (and tump) were sold in 1677.
2007-12-16 14:20 - TP6972 (Windmill Golf Course)
Found on a return visit. On my first visit, I had not seen any previous logs and a local said "No trig point around here".
2007-12-16 14:05 - TP4003 (Hook Hills)
The views between the houses were occasionally very good but the drive around the estate was pointless except for completeness.
2007-12-16 13:30 - TP3276 (Furland)
Contouring saves effort on ups and downs.
2007-12-16 12:55 - TP3441 (Grattery)

To have to walk extra to park out of the way, I'm Willing.Cross though about the mud on my trousers.
2007-12-15 13:55 - TP6588 (Tristford)
Had to use the gate leaning against the hedge to gain access to the TP
2007-12-15 13:25 - TP1128 (Beenleigh)
When I have to clear ivy off the numbers, it confirms that no one has visited for a while.
2007-12-15 12:50 - TP3725 (Hemborough)

2007-12-15 10:55 - TP3277 (Fursdon)
Climbed the plinth, to check the FB Number, using long forgotten climbing moves.
2007-12-15 10:40 - TP6709 (Wallaton)
I study the map and independently decide on an approach only to find evidence on the ground that others before me have taken the same route.
2007-12-15 10:15 - TP5695 (Ritson Brake)
loads of dishes here.
2007-12-15 09:50 - TP2789 (Diptford)
If we all chipped in to a collection we could have the hedge rebuilt. I was thinking we could call it the hedge fund.
2007-12-15 09:35 - TP0339 (Horsebrook)
first of this day but only visited for completeness
2007-12-13 14:15 - TP2612 (Crooked Soley)

Too much "Chute"ing going on
2007-12-13 11:55 - TP4104 (Inham Down)

2007-12-13 11:11 - TP4841 (Milton Hill)
army helicopters buzzing but no one else around
2007-12-10 13:40 - TP2673 (Culbone Hill)
forgive us our trespasses
2007-12-10 13:15 - TP4246 (Kipscombe Hill)
Talked with a NT man in a van. They are going to cut down all the gorse beside the road because the ponies hide behind the gorse and then step out into the road just as a vehicle comes along.
2007-12-10 12:50 - TP1821 (Butter Hill)
aerial views !
2007-12-10 12:30 - TP7308 (Hollerday Hill)

The first two fields were wet, wet, wet underfoot (from the recent rain!!!)
2007-12-07 13:05 - TP5947 (Shilling Stone Hill)
Halfway along the outward trip, the heavens opened. Note to self: if it looks like its going to rain, take a raincoat !!!!
2007-12-07 12:35 - TP6180 (Stickland Farm)

visited after a run at ngoc meet
2007-11-30 13:50 - TP1111 (Beacon Knap)
Crawling through the hedge, I got to the fence line. Just before trying to fight through some final prickly stuff into the field, I happened to glance sideways (and there was the TP).
2007-11-30 13:35 - TP0768 (Abbotsbury Castle)
I saw no castle walls. Have they all been robbed out like bits of Hadrian's Wall?
2007-11-30 13:15 - TP4681 (Martins Down)
The weather had closed right in and visibility was down to 20 yards. Struck out on a rough bearing from the fence line. I dare say it is all very easy on a good day.
2007-11-30 12:55 - TP3028 (Eggardon Hill)
Why is it that when you approach a TP out in the open that it is often the last side you look at that has the required number?
2007-11-30 12:40 - TP3490 (Greenford Lane)
I stripped off some of the ivy to make it more visible to the next hedge trimmer.
2007-11-30 12:20 - TP4304 (Knowle Hill)
In the middle of a prickly hedge

2007-11-29 13:55 - TP3396 (Gogwell Farm)
How long will it be before those nearby masts become redundant technology?
2007-11-29 13:30 - TP2593 (Crockers Down)
20 yards before the mast (sounds like the title of a sailing book)
2007-11-29 13:20 - TP4573 (Lower Way)

2007-11-29 13:05 - TP6969 (Windmill Down)

hidden IN the beech hedge!
2007-11-29 11:35 - TP0343 (Budlake)
rivet and concrete were moss covered
2007-11-29 11:20 - TP2256 (Clyst Hydon)
the problem seeing the number ain't the pallet, its the prickly holly
2007-11-27 11:35 - TP6655 (Unity Farm)
The nearby static caravans were occupied so Privacy Rule applied.
2007-11-27 11:05 - TP1608 (Brean Down)
Overtook two fishermen with all their gear going up the steps so took some of their stuff off them and left it at the top. At the TP had to walk carefully around two white longhorn cattle.
2007-11-27 10:10 - TP0283 (Sand Bay)
nowt about due to winter conditions (overcast, windy, rain threatening)
2007-11-27 10:00 - TP4803 (Middle Hope)
Alone save for a hovering hawk hunting.
2007-11-25 15:20 - TP6711 (Walls Hill)
At last a green use for a superstore carpark.
2007-11-25 14:50 - TP5430 (Petit Tor)
2007-11-25 14:40 - TP3009 (Easterfield)
Popped over from Coast Path. Nice views along to East Devon and Dorset but again no golfers spotted.
2007-11-25 13:55 - TP1799 (Burrows Resr)
I took a look at its backside but it would not let its defences down.
2007-11-25 13:30 - TP2457 (Court Bottom)
After reading the notices nearer the road, I went along the forest tracks listening carefully for the sound of quads. Several times I heard the sound of motor bikes but I think they were back up on the road.
2007-11-25 13:00 - TP4888 (Monklands)
wide angle view of city sprawl
2007-11-25 12:35 - TP4303 (Knowle Hill)
Why did they only sometimes build the TP on a plinth? And why did they when they did?
2007-11-25 12:15 - TP2386 (Constitutional Hill)
nice little lane, shame about the restricted view
2007-11-25 11:50 - TP3092 (Exwick Barton)
Saw 25 to 30 pheasants on the way up by the sunken lane, disturbed a fox as I reached the TP, and saw two scurrying rabbits as I went directly downhill back to the road.
2007-11-25 11:20 - TP6693 (Waddles Down)
Nearly a full house of man made objects on this hill top.
2007-11-25 11:00 - TP1366 (Bilsdon)
TP had been painted white at some stage but presently it is the colour of dry manure spray
2007-11-24 15:25 - TP0342 (Haldon Car Park)
Did the grass kicking thing but no luck. Bolt? What bolt?
2007-11-24 15:20 - TP0748 (Little Haldon)

2007-11-24 14:55 - TP6351 (The Beacon)
TP stands proud from the hedgeline - just like we like em.
2007-11-24 14:45 - TP3458 (Great Hill Resr)
When I came around the corner on the track to first see the TP, I thought it would be "vis not reach" but then I saw that the wire by the corner was loose up high and an ascent and entry was possible.
2007-11-24 13:35 - TP4233 (Kingskerswell Resr)
Now in garden. Privacy rule applies.
2007-11-24 13:20 - TP3296 (Gallows Gate Resr)
Compound surrounded by high security fence.
2007-11-24 13:05 - TP5830 (Scadson)
Came up through wood and exited into field to find cows and calves had churned up glorious thick devon-red mud.
2007-11-24 12:50 - TP6133 (St Marys Resr Paignton)
Within sight (and sounds) of the sea.
2007-11-24 12:15 - TP1101 (Beacon Hill)
Security notices, CCTV, Smoke alarms, etc, etc. Is this realy Fort Knox in disguise ???
2007-11-24 11:40 - TP5553 (Quarry Beacon)
Nice place for a bench but who's going to go back for the picnic things?
2007-11-24 11:10 - TP5780 (Rydonball Resr)
Not as nice a reservoir as Highweek. So what exactly is a prickly ball ???
2007-11-24 10:40 - TP3842 (Highweek Resr)
Neatly maintained urban reservoir.
2007-11-24 10:05 - TP4103 (Ingsdon Burn)
Gained the tops from the secret quarry only to see a big hereford bull standing near the TP. Went very slowly and steadyly on the last few yards.
2007-11-19 13:20 - TP5706 (Robinswood Hill)
extensive views over ever expanding urban areas
2007-11-19 12:30 - TP6975 (Windmill Hill)
access from road end at Weir Green then along Severn Way
2007-11-19 11:55 - TP4891 (Monks Hill)
heavy clay soil underfoot from flood plains of ice age river severn
2007-11-19 11:20 - TP5262 (Overton)
views to cotswold escarpment all the time but extensive stretches of river mud is only when the tide is out.
2007-11-16 13:35 - TP7176 (North Petherton (R))
at this time of year, over grown with nettles
2007-11-16 13:30 - TP0628 (North Petherton FBM Aux 1)
Lost in grass!
2007-11-16 13:25 - TP0282 (Melcombe)
lost when concrete re-done
2007-11-16 12:45 - TP1418 (Black Hill)
On my last visit to this TP, I was half way round an Orienteering course and it started snowing!
2007-11-16 12:15 - TP1100 (Beacon Hill)
My direct route to the TP had failed to show the gorse hidden in the heather until I was right in there.
2007-11-16 11:50 - TP5779 (Rydon Hill)
I found game birds a plenty as I passed the ribbon copse.
2007-11-16 11:30 - TP0274 (Blue Anchor)
New sea defences, new steps, no bolt !
2007-11-16 11:20 - TP6750 (Warren Farm)
At the end of the hedge row hidden by ivy (nice girl really)
2007-11-10 17:30 - TP1057 (Barrington Hill)
It was getting too dark to see and I had to feel the FB numbers to record them. (memo to self; make sure the trigging kit has a working torch in it)
2007-11-10 16:55 - TP6163 (Staple Hill)
I nearly recorded the TP as "slightly damaged" since the woodland contractor has seen fit to highlight the TP by spray painting an orange line around near the top of the sides.
2007-11-10 16:25 - TP2228 (Cliffhayne Farm)
Beware the worst underfoot conditions I met all day with cowprints in the soft muddy surface.
2007-11-10 15:55 - TP5679 (Ridgewood Hill)
TP standing proud in the hedgeline on a plinth.
2007-11-10 15:20 - TP1437 (Blackborough Common)
Nothing to see at TP but trees but nearby bench at wood's edge is worth a pause for a moment of reflection.
2007-11-10 14:50 - TP5329 (Paulsland Farm)
Access was nice and easy up a dry sunken lane that would probably be dreadfull after rain.
2007-11-10 14:20 - TP3568 (Halberton)
I walked carefully beside the hedge past the tender green shoots appearing from the Devon red soil.
2007-11-10 13:50 - TP2715 (Daggeridge Farm)
After gazing at the white painted TP, I noticed a concrete structure a bit further along the hedge but its a water tank not a pill box.
2007-11-10 13:30 - TP5546 (Pyncombe Farm)
This TP has wooden fencing around another plinth.
2007-11-10 12:55 - TP1819 (Butsons)
As I walked around the edge of the field to gain the TP in an unobserved way, I wondered at first what was the cause of the curious snorting noise? (Organic Pigs !)
2007-11-10 12:30 - TP0863 (Appledore)
I wondered if the OS used the same contractor to build all the plinths that there seem to be in this area?
2007-11-10 12:05 - TP2678 (Culmstock Beacon)
Last here on a LDWA Challenge Walk (The Wellington Boot in 2005). Spot the error in the description of the purpose of the TP attached to the Trig?
2007-11-10 11:30 - TP1747 (Buckland Hill)
No particular views to see but great walk in from SW on unfenced track through scrubby woodland.
2007-11-10 11:00 - TP0276 (Woodford Farm)
I still had a machete in the car from recent hedgelaying and used this to good effect as a digging/scraping tool.
2007-11-10 10:45 - TP2740 (Daws Green)
I pulled into a gateway to let a car go past and decided to get out for a first view. As I leant on the gate and looked into the field, I saw the TP in the hedgerow.
2007-11-10 10:25 - TP4220 (Kings)
another TP on a plinth on the edge of a "shooting" crop.
2007-11-10 10:00 - TP3022 (Edgeborough)
On my first visit in the summer the maize hid any sign of the TP. Now with the crop harvested it was obvious straight away.
2007-11-09 13:30 - TP2220 (Cley Hill)
Has nobody told the Westbury Cement Works that smoking is banned in public places.
2007-11-09 12:30 - TP3530 (Grovely Hill)
I do like a good avenue of beech trees in autumn. Shame about the power lines.
2007-11-09 11:45 - TP2623 (Crouch Down)
nice walk up from SE initially on sunken track
2007-11-09 10:50 - TP2547 (Cratt Hill)
evidence everywhere of shooting (notices, used cartridges, shattered clays)
2007-11-05 12:50 - TP5973 (Sidbury)
arrived at the TP at the same time as some chaps wearing green berets.
2007-11-05 12:10 - TP5435 (Pickpit Hill)
Both the TP and a nearby tree had control tags attached. Must be the Army from Tidworth out on Navigation training.
2007-11-05 11:40 - TP6932 (Wick Down)
Its monday morning and I can hear popping noises in the near distance. That means the Army's back from its weekend off and it'll be allright if the Russians attack us.
2007-10-29 14:20 - TP6330 (Teffont Down)
But for the padlock on the gate, this is a drivable TP.
2007-10-29 13:50 - TP1061 (Barrow Street)
2007-10-29 13:20 - TP6898 (White Sheet Castle)
Just before the big bend, on the track up from the car park, is an eighteenth century milestone complete with the original sort of carved bench mark. I had to get out of the way of a man walking his dog. The dog was walking while the man was holding the dumb end of the lead out of his window as he drove along at snail's pace.
2007-10-29 12:20 - TP2339 (Cold Kitchen)
everywhere you go someone has made up a walk. this time its the mid wilts way (MWM).
2007-10-20 18:10 - TP3850 (Hill End)
No view of a TP but good views of the Malvern range.
2007-10-20 17:40 - TP3558 (Haffield Bank)
Why is this TP on such an large obvious plinth ? Digging out even just a little would have reduced the need to bring materials up.
2007-10-20 16:45 - TP5273 (Oyster Hill)
As I came up the rise, the TP was bathed in autumn evening sunshine.
2007-10-20 15:40 - TP6683 (Veldt House)
easy parking, easy walking, easy trigging.
2007-10-20 14:50 - TP4439 (Little Doward)
I took the straight up the hill from the gateway route, using the wall as a handline, to near the top. As I paused to relocate, a large deer with foot long antlers emerged from the trees and bound away. I looked up to see where it had come from and saw the TP above me.
2007-10-20 13:50 - TP5419 (Pen-Y-Lan)
completing my circular route by going between house and farm, I casually said to a bloke cutting the house hedge "is this where the footpath goes ?" but he said he didn't know!
2007-10-20 13:15 - TP6386 (The Grove)
distant views to Blorenge and Skirrid Fawr
2007-10-20 13:00 - TP2322 (Coed Cefn)
nice parking, nice gate, nice TP
2007-10-20 12:40 - TP5406 (Pen-Y-Clawdd)
sometimes there is no obvious gate into a field and a bit of hidden barbed wire hopping is required
2007-10-20 12:20 - TP4458 (Llan Soy)
another of those TPs not quite at the nearest highest point
2007-10-20 11:10 - TP6590 (Trostrey Hill)
its nice to see a hedge of buckthorn for a change instead of the ubiquitous hawthorn
2007-10-20 10:00 - TP3191 (Flagstaff Hill)
the TP was next to a crop of sunflowers and other bird seed providing plants
2007-10-20 09:10 - TP4472 (Llangibby)
the hedge had been recently trimmed by the modern method of smashing off the growing tips and branches but here the farmer had taken some care compared to other TPs i've seen and there was no mark on the column
2007-10-20 08:40 - TP6569 (Tredunnock)
the long grass was still covered with the night's dew. good job i'd brought my wellies with me !
2007-10-20 07:50 - TP5375 (Penhow)
nice view of multicoloured bales in front of tp
2007-10-20 07:30 - TP6796 (Wentwood)
spent the night sleeping in the car under the trees in the car park though interrupted by five visits by some drinking yobs in a car from 03.20 onwards.
2007-10-19 21:00 - TP6646 (Ty-Wilson)
in view of previous remarks, i left this one for dead of night, and crept around the side of the buildings using only moonlight. i wondered where the tp was and then realised it was on the other side of the fence i was standing next to !
2007-10-19 19:50 - TP3447 (Great Beech)
it was pitch black and i saw nothing except sheep eyes glowing in the light from my head torch
2007-10-19 18:30 - TP5017 (Mynydd Garn Wen)
the moon is up, the sun is down behind the hills and the street lights are twinkling in the valleys.
2007-10-19 17:50 - TP1834 (Byrgwm)
when i got to the TP there was a vauxhall corsa parked next to it. i jokingly asked the driver if he had 4 wheel drive but he was not amused. it turned out that he was a local window cleaner who had come to see the sunset !!!
2007-10-19 17:00 - TP0735 (Mynydd Maen)
my first welsh gps station. the area on the FB where the S would be looks pitted and marked. was the S chipped off ?
2007-10-19 16:20 - TP0279 (Pantside)
stopped for completeness. no rocks so no rivet.
2007-10-19 15:50 - TP6626 (Twmbarlwm)
Even the experts can't agree !!! The hill fort may be Bronze Age or may be Iron Age. The mound at one end may be a Roman signal platform or may be 12th Century Norman or may be 13th Century Welsh.
2007-10-19 15:20 - TP5690 (Risca)
my map didn't show all the roundabouts that there appeared to be so i stopped and asked a native for directions
2007-10-19 14:30 - TP4597 (Machen Hill)
extensive views towards the severn estuary as far up as the second crossing and as far down as the Holms
2007-10-19 13:30 - TP1844 (Caerphilly Common)
paradise (?) for caerphily dog walkers
2007-10-19 12:40 - TP2595 (Croes Cadarn)
high hedges with no gaps made this difficult to see into the field
2007-10-19 12:20 - TP5420 (Pen-Y-Lan)
as i made my way up to the top of the hill along tramlines i got all excited at what i could see on the skyline but when i got closer i could see that it was just a large rock turned up by the ploughing
2007-10-19 11:45 - TP4651 (Mardy)
late clearing of the morning haze meant that Flat and Steep were only just visible as outlines
2007-10-19 11:30 - TP0280 (Sluice House Farm)
findable because set in square foot of concrete in poor soil
2007-10-15 14:00 - TP5452 (Pinnacle Hill)
went through the factory trying to follow the footpath but no signs to be seen. went across the access land followed closely by some forty young male cows.
2007-10-15 13:00 - TP4264 (Knighton)
wandered around the plateau and field boundaries but found nowt. one for the gps people to confirm as hidden in a hedge or disappeared.
2007-10-15 12:20 - TP0281 (Wall Common)
gabion was a military engineering term for originally a wickerwork basket which was filled with earth and used to shield the guns. now it means a box made of wire mesh and filled with stone and often used for river defences.
2007-10-15 12:01 - TP1900 (Cannington Park)
went from the quarry road through the new wood to the track entrance to the old wood. passed lots of scuttling game birds on the way over some limestone outcroppings to the TP at the top.
2007-10-15 11:40 - TP5332 (Pawlett)
went passed the entrance to the undergound keeping off the just sown ground and missed the ivy covered TP at first
2007-10-15 10:50 - TP4075 (Huntspill)
watch out, take care! the plank across the ditch feels "soft" and not long for this world
2007-10-15 10:10 - TP5913 (Shapwick)
wet feet all day is not nice but thats what happens when the first TP of the day is gained through wet grass !
2007-10-13 14:40 - TP5393 (Penselwood)
went from the crossroads through gate and upwards through wood to skyline
2007-10-13 13:30 - TP0290 (Blackford)
found the bolt in the road (as per the OS diagram) but couldn't find the bolt in the grass.
2007-10-13 12:40 - TP6599 (Tuckers Cross)
On my first visit in July on the same day as TOM I couldn't find the TP because of the five foot tall linseed and the lack of a GPS.
2007-10-13 11:40 - TP2019 (Castle Cary Resr)
When I got to the dreadful viewing platform, I looked through the telescope but couldn't see the TP because there was a bush in the way. If townies come to the countryside because it is beautiful, why can't they just leave it as they find it ? I suppose in this case though it could be argued that the water company had allready left its mark.
2007-10-07 12:50 - TP3043 (Ell Barrow)
followed cattle tracks from the old coach road to the barrow. wot signs?
2007-10-07 12:30 - TP5626 (Redhorn Hill)
stopped here on my way to ell barrow
2007-10-07 11:50 - TP2122 (Charlton Clumps)
between the drove and the TP was a field of poppies
2007-10-07 11:20 - TP3062 (Enford Twr)
had to dig out the FB, so left a brick in the hole to make it easy for the next caller
2007-10-07 10:40 - TP5976 (Silk Hill)
in the distance was the pop pop pop of sunday soldiers.
2007-10-07 10:10 - TP4265 (Knighton Down)
went past the army(?) at play on the shotgun ranges (did not see red!)
2007-10-07 09:50 - TP1818 (Bustard)
the TP is on the other side of the "hedge" from the qinetiq compound
2007-10-07 09:20 - TP2398 (Copehill)
returned for second visit with modern explorer map. my old inherited 1960 one inch map was not up to it first time.
2007-10-07 09:00 - TP4660 (Market Lavington)
the first pillar i saw looked a bit small but then i saw the real deal a bit further over
2007-10-07 09:00 - TP10074 (Market Lavington)
originally S1948 and now replaced by S5897.
2007-10-07 08:40 - TP6744 (Warminster Bottom)
walked around MOD compound and looked through rusty wire pretending not to see the red rag flying at nz camp
2007-10-06 15:30 - TP0618 (Sapperton FBM Aux 1)
returned for second visit and still couldn't find it in the long grass
2007-10-06 15:00 - TP4594 (Lypiatt Resr)
nice little walk down a green lane but brambles over cotswold stone walls to make it slightly harder to gain access to the trig
2007-10-06 14:40 - TP7011 (Wittantree)
left the single track road blocked while i visited the TP
2007-10-05 15:10 - TP0351 (Hengistbury Head)
it took me some time to realise that the bench i was looking for was written on the concrete !
2007-10-05 14:40 - TP6753 (Warren Hill)
the white splash above the needles i had seen before. i think it was from st catherines hill tp
2007-10-05 14:00 - TP1802 (Burton Common)
after the road and railway are passed, this is a nice pleasant stroll
2007-10-05 13:40 - TP5715 (Roeshot Hill)
this TP is "visible not reachable" under privacy rule
2007-10-05 13:20 - TP5067 (Nea Croft)
"damaged" does not adequately describe what has been done to this poor defenceless trig
2007-10-05 13:00 - TP6280 (Sway)
when there were no cars driving past, i could hear the birds singing
2007-10-05 12:40 - TP0744 (Lyndhurst)
had to give a shortened version of my lecture about trigpoints to a couple on the bench
2007-10-05 12:20 - TP5080 (Netley Marsh)
spent ages faffing about trying to find a parking spot. came down off the hill through a car park !!!
2007-10-05 11:50 - TP3690 (Hazel Farm)
TP wiped out by ring road building ?
2007-10-05 11:40 - TP1672 (Brook Hill)
i missed it the first time down the hedgerow because of the covering of ivy and bramble
2007-10-05 11:20 - TP6824 (West Wellow)
if i had been bold instead of old i could have driven to within ten feet of this one
2007-10-05 11:00 - TP6144 (Stagbury Hill)
the scenery could be Dartmoor (but with trees and civilization)
2007-10-05 10:40 - TP1583 (Bramshaw)
where did they take bearings on ? (the surroundings seem so flat)
2007-10-05 10:30 - TP5515 (Pound Bottom)
as i reached the TP, a couple of this years game birds took off in alarm from the TP fence bay.
2007-10-03 13:30 - TP1248 (Bellevue)
the stone wall by the gate has been "filled in" so it is no longer possible to slip in. numerous new "british rail as was" signs threatening prosecution for trespassing.
2007-10-03 12:30 - TP5542 (Purdown)
went into the allotments to be stopped by a wall of brambles. went up the back road to look over the garden fence but saw nothing. from the front road saw it through the fence. applied the privacy rule and so didn't disturb the house occupants.
2007-10-03 11:30 - TP1681 (Broom Hill)
cleared away some builders rubble to get to the FB. left some slabs in place to try to make it easy for the next visitor.
2007-10-03 11:00 - TP7260 (Bristol)
tried looking at the government offices from between peoples houses, tried wandering around the industrial estate, tried from the carpark of the retail park. didn't pretend to have a driving test appointment!
2007-10-03 10:00 - TP3526 (Grove Farm)
parked up by the local shops and walked the block on this post war housing estate. it is extremely unlikely that a TP is hidden away in someones back garden!
2007-10-01 15:00 - TP2372 (Compton Hut)
as i walked along the drove road from bishopstone down, there was a line of men with white flags in the field to the south. there was a loud blast on a horn and they all started moving away from me. a minute later shooting started. you'd think that everyone would know what a waved white flag meant.
2007-10-01 14:00 - TP1399 (Bishopstone Down)
the drove road was good but then it was mud, mud, mud. just what the nearby pigs had ordered.
2007-10-01 12:30 - TP7002 (Winterslow)
the recent rain had turned the freshly harrowed soil into claggy mud. it took me longer to clean off my shoes then it took to walk across to the TP.
2007-10-01 12:10 - TP0301 (Shute End)
i had a one in four chance of choosing the correct side and end of the bridge. it was in the third place i looked !!!
2007-09-27 14:10 - TP0959 (Badbury Hill)
my copy of the 1951 issue of one inch to one mile no.157 shows the trig point in the middle of the wood in the hill fort. was this OS misinformation or has the TP been moved ?
2007-09-27 13:40 - TP5558 (Queenlains Farm)
a two lane highway has been put down to make it easy to drive to the "farm".
2007-09-27 13:20 - TP1507 (Blunsdon)
civilization ever marches on into the countryside. i expect a nice flat field like the one to be crossed to reach the TP will eventually fall itself.
2007-09-27 12:40 - TP6520 (Toot Hill)
the people who design these estates are apparently qualified (?) i wonder if any of them ever live in an estate like this.
2007-09-27 12:20 - TP3197 (Flaxlands Resr)
the fencing around the reservoir is too new, stretched too taut, and wired at the bottom. between the road and the gate blocking the reservoir access track is a survey bolt in the tarmac with a yellow ring around it. who put this here?
2007-09-27 12:10 - TP0297 (Ballard`s Ash)
i didn't have my grass cutters or my metal detector with me so passed on after a quick toe poke in the vegetation.
2007-09-27 11:50 - TP7077 (Worthy Hill Farm)
as i walked past the coppice compartments, i realised i had been here before on a wiltshire wildlife trust course on woodland management.
2007-09-27 11:20 - TP2219 (Cleverton)
if you've reached the stile and the small wood on the footpath heading west, you've gone too far !
2007-09-24 14:40 - TP4690 (Matcham Park)
heathwood not heathcliff
2007-09-24 13:50 - TP6126 (St Catherines Hill Bosley Heath)
good distant views, if it wasn't for the trees in between.
2007-09-24 13:30 - TP1461 (Blackwater Hill)
what would have been wild heath fifty years ago is now a semi urban park with the continuous noise in the background of road traffic
2007-09-24 13:00 - TP5230 (Olivers House)
in the midst of a newish housing estate
2007-09-24 12:30 - TP0349 (Cowgrove)
nearly drove past but for remembered os photo. should be classified as "reachable not visible"
2007-09-24 12:20 - TP0538 (Wimborne)
on a crossroads to nowhere, the nettles are now higher than the railings.
2007-09-24 11:59 - TP0960 (Badbury Rings)
i think they've got it all wrong and these rings are the site of an out of town ancient briton chariot race course
2007-09-15 15:10 - TP0857 (Anstey Common)
no gorse, no gorse, my kingdom for no gorse.
2007-09-15 14:50 - TP5166 (North Molton Ridge)
there is a lone tall tree in the hedge with a gate and style beside it. it is a useful marker for parking and for returning from the middle of the moor.
2007-09-15 14:30 - TP6837 (Western Common)
the land from the road up to the barrows is now CROW accessable
2007-09-15 14:00 - TP5964 (Shoulsbarrow Common)
followed a wire fence up to the skyline from the wrong gate on the flat bit of road but a spot of relocation and i was back on course
2007-09-15 13:40 - TP0268 (Bratton Down)
found it !!! (in long grass). it was where the os diagram said it should be.
2007-09-15 13:10 - TP4576 (Loxhore)
FB number shown is as per OS records. I had forgotten to take my trowel with me for the dig out.
2007-09-15 12:50 - TP4165 (Kentisbury Down)
i have been pleased with the general condition of devon banks on this trip. now if farmers would only learn to occasionally lay the trees on the top of the banks.
2007-09-15 12:10 - TP4680 (Martinhoe Common)
when you walk in a field of animals they often stay still until one moves. then they all seem to have to move. is this a retained survival mechanism ?
2007-09-15 11:40 - TP3967 (Holdstone Down)
why do people feel the need to add to a pile of rocks on our high places ?
2007-09-15 11:10 - TP1333 (Berry Down)
parked opposite the phone box and went over two gates into large field. crept along west side of bank ducking down every time the tractor went around the field on the east side of the bank (cutting the grass for feed).
2007-09-15 10:50 - TP6902 (Whitefield Down)
if trig bagging was all like this one it would be no fun at all.
2007-09-15 10:00 - TP3827 (Higher Slade)
track to masts now public bridleway. some parking now available by track start.
2007-09-15 09:30 - TP3000 (Eastacott Hill)
view spoilt by little boxes on hillside to the north
2007-09-15 09:10 - TP0266 (Willingcott)
hidden somewhere in the long grass. what we really need is a category of condition called "reached but not visible".
2007-09-15 08:50 - TP5134 (No Mans Land)
views down to the estuary mouth (on a clear day!)
2007-09-15 08:20 - TP0965 (Baggy Point)
avoided NT carpark fees by arriving and leaving early (before 9). views through the early morning mist of the pirate's lair.
2007-09-15 07:30 - TP6779 (Waytown)
a tractor was allready ploughing in the next door field
2007-09-15 07:00 - TP4085 (Hutcherton Down)
reached the TP just as the sun came up over the horizon (hedgeline)
2007-09-15 06:30 - TP1602 (Brayley Barton)
walked up through cowfields of clover and got soaking wet feet from the early morning dew
2007-09-11 16:50 - TP2116 (Chapel Leigh)
gained TP from footpath to west and left to track to east (second is very much easier)
2007-09-11 16:10 - TP3832 (Higher Whitefield Farm)
TP and base plinth are ivy covered but still visible in hedge line
2007-09-11 15:40 - TP1473 (Blagdon Hill)
used my tracking skills to get within sight of the TP

crossed more moor
2007-09-11 14:00 - TP2154 (Chibbet Cross)
for wonderful views (on a good day) follow track past wessex reservoir and through new fencing
2007-09-11 13:40 - TP6999 (Winsford Hill)
who put that pile of earth in the way of the view some three thousand years ago?
2007-09-11 13:10 - TP4593 (Lype Hill)
roads were awash with cyclists and spectators for the Tour of Britain
2007-09-11 12:50 - TP6566 (Treborough Common)

I could see Wales (not Whales!)
2007-09-07 11:00 - TP6808 (West Ham Corner)

railings are grey not usual green
2007-09-03 15:30 - TP5816 (Sapperton)
The Bathurst Estate was purchased by Sir Benjamin Bathurst in 1695. He was a governor of the East India Company.
2007-09-03 15:10 - TP3241 (Fosse Way)
I was driving to the highest point on the road as a start point and just noticed it by the layby as I drove past
2007-09-03 14:40 - TP3696 (Hazleton)
just as I was about to cross the road I was approached by a smartly turned out man in flannels and blazer. "Are you local? Can you tell me what that monument is for? I often pass this way and have often wondered." I said "Do you want the short version or the long version?" and then proceeded to give him the long version anyway. He was very interested and said he would try to look up trigs in his local area (Surrey) when he got home.
2007-09-03 14:10 - TP0007 (Cleeve Hill)
kite flying weather
2007-09-03 13:40 - TP5271 (Oxleaze)

2007-09-03 13:00 - TP4352 (Langley Hill)
the top of this hill is a curious mixture of bumps and hollows.
2007-09-03 12:40 - TP6420 (The Ring)
too windy today for golfers?
2007-09-03 11:45 - TP7908 (Bartlow)

2007-09-03 11:11 - TP1380 (Birdlip)
past the horses and past the pheasants and round the corner of the reservoir and there it be!
2007-08-31 14:40 - TP6500 (Tittle Path Hill)
TP is built on a plinth in a earth bank which has a hedge on top. missed the path up from the east but fought uphill through the wood. found it to go down again.
2007-08-31 13:40 - TP2021 (Castle Ditches)
another Wiltshire hill fort/trig point combination. I came in to the inner enclosure over the defensive ditches. They must have taken quite a considerable community effort.
2007-08-31 13:00 - TP3177 (Fir Hill)
As I drove through Fovant, I purchased an ice cream from the village shop. I parked up by the sharp bend to the north and strolled up the track through the wood. Just as I finished my choc bar, I got to the trig!
2007-08-31 12:10 - TP6271 (Sutton Down)
in the middle distance, the badges can just be seen but a better view is from FIR HILL TP.
2007-08-31 11:00 - TP6593 (Trow Down)
distant views from flat topped hill
2007-08-31 10:00 - TP6899 (White Sheet Hill)
visited after harvest. great place except constant hum of traffic rolling up from the valley below.
2007-08-31 09:30 - TP0295 (Ludwell)
this verge is not mown by local council. Do I have to add a metal detector to my trigging kit?
2007-08-31 09:10 - TP0738 (Wingreen)
my map did not show the car park , so I parked out on the road !!! views spoilt by clump of trees and early morning haze.
2007-08-24 14:50 - TP5387 (Penning Field)
roadside view of trig and roadside view of pig
2007-08-24 14:20 - TP5280 (Pale Ash)

2007-08-24 13:20 - TP2212 (Clearbury Ring)

in a nice little bit of wood near a treehouse.
2007-08-24 10:50 - TP5754 (Royal Oak)
at entrance to NT carpark, after going up tight lane, there was a NT notice about flytipping. Next door to it, someone had left a lorry load of tyres !!!
2007-08-20 13:30 - TP1535 (Botley Down)
out along one side of the wood on the muddy byway and back on the other side of the wood over the grass fields. Definitely easier coming back.
2007-08-20 13:10 - TP0539 (Great Bedwyn)
initially hidden by the flower trough placed on top
2007-08-20 12:50 - TP6339 (Terrace Hill)
this trig was like my chin. ( Covered in Old Man's Beard ! )
2007-08-20 12:20 - TP4683 (Martinsell)
used my orienteering training by using the field corner fences as an attack point and wandering into the dark wood on a bearing. (gps users will probably find this trig dead easy)
2007-08-20 11:50 - TP3344 (Giants Grave)
all around the harvest is mostly safely gathered in.
2007-08-20 11:00 - TP6587 (Triple Plantation)
evidence of the military on salisbury plain is all around this trig
2007-08-19 11:40 - TP1278 (Ben Knowle Hill)
i could see at least four trig sites without trying
2007-08-19 11:00 - TP5450 (Pilton)
i really must add pruners and heavy gloves to my going out kit if i am to protect my delicate hands.
2007-08-19 10:50 - TP5386 (Pennard Hill)
ivy covered. (why does the face plate so often seem to be in nettles?)
2007-08-19 10:20 - TP6983 (Windmill Hill Resr)
another "easy to get" reservoir trig behind a low stone wall and nettles
2007-08-19 09:40 - TP3997 (Honeygar)
a trig low down on the levels. view of the mendips spoilt by line of pylons.
2007-08-19 09:20 - TP0966 (Bagley Resr)
if only all reservoir trigs were like this to reach
2007-08-17 14:30 - TP2468 (Cowage Farm)
i wandered around the tracks and roads but saw nowt. if its hidden by the garden bushes, shrubs and trees then a gps might help.
2007-08-17 14:10 - TP5069 (Nebo Farm)
parked in a layby beside a wooden fence. walked past lots of sticks with little yellow flags on (?). found the trig over by the hedge and left through a gap behind it out onto the road.

in the near distance lines of busy bees follow the motorway

views down to the city(!) of Swindon
2007-08-17 12:50 - TP0807 (Aldbourne Gorse)
found a square pile of concrete bits in the hedge and at first thought that it was the trig demolished but then looked further along the field edge and found the real deal

my first trig in a tunnel !

2007-08-17 09:40 - TP4923 (Morgans Hill)
fields of gold and balls of white, and darkness when descends the night
2007-08-09 14:20 - TP6135 (St Rayn Hill)
parked in a council used layby. Just before the end of the financial year, councils down this way meet their budget targets by spending their (our) spare money on stone chippings which they store in laybys like this one.
2007-08-09 13:00 - TP2032 (Castle Hill)
went straight up through the hedge and only discovered the notice on the way down. great little hill but part quarried away some time ago.
2007-08-09 12:40 - TP3660 (Harvard)
right beside the farm road (and again not on the top of the spur)
2007-08-09 12:20 - TP1079 (Batcombe Hill)
the view is only half as good as it might otherwise be because of the tall hedge the trig is beside
2007-08-09 11:50 - TP4762 (Melbury Bubb)
why isn't this higher up the spur? I climbed too high up the hill at first and then spotted it below me.
2007-08-09 11:30 - TP0536 (Thornford)
wot no railings?
2007-08-01 14:30 - TP3586 (Hamdon Hill)
I had thought that quarrying had stopped but someone was there with a big lorry, chains and a crane removing some stone.
2007-08-01 14:10 - TP2334 (Coker Hill)
this suffers from horseyculture, a new build, and agri scrap. presumably it post dates the reservoir or i would include that!
2007-08-01 13:20 - TP2163 (Chinnock Hill)
climbed up from road to the west. (the stream is deeper than it looks!)

2007-07-30 10:50 - TP0286 (Compton Dundon)
the apples are still there silently rotting down. I pushed them about a bit with the toe of my boot but soon decided to leave them be and move on. Returned on 02/03/08 and found the bolt exposed.
2007-07-27 16:10 - TP4228 (Kingsdon Hill)

another near road trig. views shielded by trees.
2007-07-27 14:30 - TP4266 (Knighton Hill)
fourth of several firsts today. first visit to a moated trig (just like picture by saginanivalis). the recent heavy prolonged wet period might mean this was just a coincidence!

glossop has to look nice from somewhere
2007-07-21 13:30 - TP3826 (Higher Shelfstones)
Each to their own I suppose. I saw one pennine way walker holding up an umbrella in the rain so that he could read as he walked along. It looked to me as though it was the just published latest instalment of the harry potter saga.

2007-07-06 14:15 - TP5505 (Porton)

2007-07-02 15:30 - TP6054 (Solsbury Hill)
went up between the showers and then down through the mud of the "grassland improvements" to the minor road to the south and the search for the golden bolt !

long walk up from the A road, along the Range road, then over nice downland grass to the Trig. No cows seen.
2007-06-29 10:30 - TP7433 (Warminster )
visiting this sort of installation is a complete waste of time and makes me think that there should be one list of pure trig points and another list of ordnance survey related items like offices, bolts, rivets, fbms etc.
2007-06-22 11:30 - TP5572 (Rainbow Wood)
found on second visit after looking at larger scale map

2007-06-04 12:20 - TP7080 (Wraxall)
I trespass in fields quite happily but owners of gardens have a Right to Privacy so I left the householder alone other than to gaze over their garden fence. I parked at ST480730 at the start of Cadbury Camp Lane where a sign for CADBURY WATER CO says "BRIDAL WAY ONLY" (where do bridegrooms go ?)
