also a pa bolt to bag for benchmarkers. Ayr Tollbooth/Town Hall To replace the old tollbooth in the centre of the Sandgate the Town Hall and burgh chambers were erected in 1827, an ornate and well proportioned classical building designed by Thomas Hamilton of Edinburgh. To the rear of this was the new police station and goal. Ayr town hall is adorned with a massive spire, rising 225 feet high. Set in a low-lying position, the steeple was designed to ensure that the bells could be heard throughout the town. This is now A listed category and one of the finest buildings in the Southwest of Scotland. http://www.ayrthi.org.uk/images/Doors_open_day/Ayrshire_Architecture_Tour.pdf http://www.ayrshirearts.com/Spaces/Gallery/Concert%20Halls/Ayr%20Town%20Hall/Town%20Hall.html

Handsome building of the 1820's with the 225 ft spire a prominent Ayr landmark. Also enjoyed my visit just down the road to the West Kirk pub where you have to climb past the pulpit of this ex-kirk to get to the loos!
