Parked in the car park for the Gardens and walked back up to the farm. Asked the farmer for permission and no problem. Managed to fit in the telephone box easily to get a picture of the FB.

Trig lying inside the old red phone box it used to be in on top of the hill. Now up a path at Arduaine Farm yard. Followed vegibaggers directions. Lovely lunch at Loch Melfort Hotel - bonus!

Quick walk around from the Arduine gardens. Still in Red pillar box. Pushed aside for windfarms I guess :(

Now located inside a phone box. Which is a farm yard "dump site" with water tanks, rusting scrap up a farm track towards the coast, above what looks like a carpark and small boat yard under construction. Could feel FB but did not get my shoulders far enough in to get a view

Sadly moved from its hillside location, it is currently lying prone still concreted inside the red telephone box that was erected over it when on the hill. It lies dumped unceremoniously with farming and other materials behind a section of wind turbine on Arduaine Farm. An original top cap is retained, deeply indented lettering. The FB can be photographed by crawling into the roofless phone box. Owner has a plan to resurrect it to its correct location - but will he ever?

Good but unusually toppled temporarily. I have the full story from the horses mouth, The Laird, Mike Campbell. Some years ago. he and his wife bought two old telephone boxes. He decided it would be quite a laugh to put one right over the top of the trig pillar on the top of the hillside. Now a couple of years back he was fed up with the amount of litter that people visiting it had put inside to phone box and the amount of gates on the track left open and fences broken so he decided to remove the phone box. Had no intention of removing the pillar too but in concreting in the box the bar had welded itself to the pillar and so with the big digger that he used, the trig pillar came away too and top got knocked off the box, perhaps fortunately for us to be able to see and photograph it. But they are not lost and he says intends to put the pillar back at some stage, though I doubt in reality if he'll ever get around to it. In the mean time phone box with trig still in side it, is stored behind some mega big pipes at the back of the first little knoll hill west of the road, north of the Loch Melfort Hotel... Grid ref NM797 106 Directions.. Immediately off road at entrance to Loch Melford Hotel drive, gate on right onto farm yard. Ask permission if you can. Head left through other gate. Along track till splits shortly, take left fork. Further 150metres big storage yard on left in cutaway behind hill... huge pipe directly in front of you at right end. Telephone box with trig inside is behind it.

High mark for interest. Ive never seen anything like this one. The pillar has been sealed inside a public telephone box. Spanners and pliers are needed to access the pillar. Unfortunately I didnt bring any, as I didnt think we'd go past it this way today. Good views though, and at least the trig is safe from the weather. To reach I followed a track opposite arduaine farm, which leads almost up to the top, and a quick grassy ascent from the end of the woodland. Could see flush bracket through a gap in panel.

Some numpty had arranged for a telephone call box to be lifted over the trig pillar then chose to secure it shut. This was something I had never bargained for. Luckily I always go out `tooled up` for unexpected access problems. The flush bracket faces west (left of TCB) so temporary careful removal of the bottom pane was necessary for photography. The pane and and door were reinstated securely before leaving. Any future visitor will need to bring pliers / socket set / spanners etc. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces 269° west. All sight holes buried in foundation concrete for kiosk.

Located on the summit of Beinn Chaorach, just to the east of Arduaine, on the west coast of Scotland. I parked in a lay-by, off the A816, located at N56° 14.421 W05° 32.425. In the corner of the lay-by is the start of the Kames Footpath, which seemed to head in the right direction. Unfortunately, the footpath was just a few rough steps cut into the hillside that led to a barbed wire topped fence. Once across the fence I was on my own and faced with a mature pine forest. It was hard work but I eventually came out onto the hillside at the southeastern side of the forest. The next problem was a four foot high wire fence that I climbed effortlessly. On the other side of the fence was a rough track the zig-zagged up the hill. I followed this up as far as it went then stuck out for the summit. The last few hundred feet were hard but not insurmountable. When I reached the trig point, I found that someone had been up there with a paint pot as the concrete pillar was sporting a new coat of white paint. The pillar was aligned pretty much on the cardinal compass points with the number plate on the west face. All the metalwork was in place. It started to rain while I was up there and the views were pretty hazy but I could still see for miles in all directions. To the south and east there were just more hills but to the north I could see across Loch Melfort to the peak at Dun Crutagain. To the west are the islands of Eilean Creagach, Shuna and beyond them, Luing. Coming down, I followed the track for a while then ‘bushwhacked’ through the pine forest until I came to a wire fence at the top of someone’s garden. There was plenty of cover and as I was in full camo I thought the chances of being seen were minimal. I crossed the fence and moved quickly across their property to the drive and then back out onto the A816 about 300 yards from the car.
