An outing with son no. 2 behind the wheel. We turned off the B658 into the quarry at the Tarmac sign. As it was a Saturday and the area was completely deserted, we drove down the road, took the left fork at 'Lakes' and parked up by the conveyor belt. The trigpoint was a little further ahead besides the hedge. Some brambles at the base; the pillar was in good order.

Was trying to get as close as possible by car as it was getting late in the day. Turned south from Broom down a track signposted for a dog outdoor exercise area of some sort. Track was uneven but just about drive able. Had gone beyond the farm buildings and heading south between two fields but spotted a farmer on a tractor in field to east and lost my nerve. Possibly better car access from road to west. Anyway parked by the dog field. Nobody about. Straightforward walk south for about four hundred metres then east for about eight hundred metres, road to east was well surfaced. Farmer on tractor took no notice , would have seen me but didn’t approach me. Went past a conveyor belt of some sort running north to south. Good road surface up until this point so was a bit annoyed I could have saved some time. Over gate into field to south. Another hundred metres east , pillar in field on south side of hedge. A lot of dead brambles around the base, left as it was didn’t clear them away. Spider and cap in place. View of farmland to south and wind turbine to east.

Got to the trig by entering the road with the Tarmac quarry signs. It say that it is a private road but I thought I would go up in the hope of seeing someone to ask permission to get to the trig. It was a straight road past the quarry and I did see some workers at the quarry but when I stopped, they just looked and ignored me. Decided to go onto the trig as I could see it was only a short distance away. I parked on the lane next to the trig went through the hedge and got my bag. Didn’t hang around too long so got this and then left the site. I did pass other vehicles on the drive in and out but was totally ignored. Fairly easy to get to using this route x

On the edge of an agricultural field, hidden behind a thick hedge next to a track leading down to fishing lakes. Fields all around this are being quarried by Tarmac. I just hope this field isn't next, resulting in damage. I've run past it many times and never knew it existed until I started looking at maps last week after finding the one on Sutton Hill east of Biggleswade. Not much of a view from this one. It's got brambles growing over 2 sides, but dead wood suggests someone has tried to hack them back in the past.

Entry to the field is great. In the Summer the trig is not visible through the bushes but I have been here before in Winter where you can see it through the hedgerow. You have to pass 'Race Base' cache which is always worth a visit *S*
