Access to field from gateway to south east. Clearly visible from the gateway with a nice view of the church behind it. Many cattle in the field today.

Hidden away at fence line behind hedge from road on quite flat terrain. Field is part of a chicken farm, and generally empty.

Visited after viewing the twelve apostles - the largest stone circle in Scotland! This is our first Scottish pillar, we are on holiday for the week so hope to do more. Best to park after the cemetery -we nearly got cleaned up by a tanker there- follow road to the right and there is a gateway on the right and the trig sits in its field. Many superficial cracks all around the pillar. Views could have been good but the weather wasn’t good.

Bagged on way back from holiday in Trossachs, as overnight ing in Dumfries. Easy bag, parked in field entrance and walked 50m or so around field boundary. Itchy.

Not so easy to spot due to the dense vegetation of the hedges, this one is well protected even so near to the road. Down in Holywood getting my motorbike its first service hunting trigs while I wait

Parked at field gate (NX 9585 7958). Pillar sits on exposed base at a field boundary. Centre cap gone, replaced by either a composite disc or a mortar plug, not easy to tell; rear sight hole open. Hair fractures abound, largest is horizontal above the FB, probably accounting for the 'slightly damaged' status some have given it, but likely only the screed.

Easy bag after a visit to the splendid Twelve Apostles stone circle. I parked by the church and followed the road round to the entrance to the field which was quite wet. Pillar has horizontal cracking slightly below mid-height. FB in place, filled plug.

Didn't like the sound of coinea's log and wondered if this would be baggable. In the end easy bag. Mr TJR waited at field entrance whilst I hopped over gate and followed field boundary to trig. Large farm building now on site in adjacent field perhaps this was what was under construction when coinea visited?

Think gateway to field has been widened recently, padlocked gates with security warning. Signs of industrial activity on south side of field and large transit van parked there.

Quick getaway from the ground (QoS v RR) up the A76 to easily find this pillar in the saintly named area of the Twelve Apostles. Plastic cap in place, and one sight-hole open.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 28th August 1953 costing £18.10s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX99/9 within the Dumfries block during 1954. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision, tertiary standards also in 1954. Last maintained by the OS in April 1989. SITE VISIT: Parked at entrance of grave yard. Pillar on SSE side of boundary fence. Smooth brown plug in spider. Flush bracket faces SSE across field, compaas measurement 151°. Vented through back (NW) sight hole.

Down at Mabie Forest for a days biking. Handy trig for the return journey. Was sorely tempted to try TP4677 but weather and fatigue got the better of me.

Cracked with concrete plug replacement. Foundations exposed, usual bovine cause I expect. Fences to field are barbed now. Good view of See Morris Hill.

Traditional trig. Top cemented. An irregular crack about 4 inches above FB level. In a hedged and fenced field but possible to get through unbarbed fence.
