Loved it. We've been to Davaar island before. But not to the trigpoint. This was a perfect end to a trigbagging day. The 6th one in the area.

Took the vehicle track round to the lighthouse first, then due S across the island to the trig. 2 horizontal hair fractures, at different levels, extend round much of the pillar; an original centre cap is retained, raised lettering; RHS sight hole open. Extensive panoramic sea and landscape views.

I've been waiting a long time for this - Davaar was the sign that the Duchess of Hamilton was reaching Campbeltown on a Clyde cruise from Lochranza. A good summer day out in the sixties. Collected the tidetable from TI and set off a few minutes early. Good path to the trig, which has a horizontal crack half way up. Poor visibility but really enjoyable. Visited the cave before returning.

Excellent trigpoint for a small hill. Checked the tides at the Tourist Info in Campbeltown (they have a free leaflet with all the safe times for the current month). Lovely day for it if a little breezy. Kids loved the channel marker halfway across the causeway. Path to the summit gets easier to spot as you get closer. Excellent.

I arrived in Campbeltown mid afternoon by coach and, after securing lodgings for the night, I then proceeded along the coast road to The Doirlinn causeway. I could see some cockle pickers in hi-vis vests out there already, but nobody else was headed onto the island besides myself. I started my circuit by walking to the lighthouse first and from there I waded up through the thick bracken to the top. There was a lot of cloud out to the east blocking the view to Arran, but there was still plenty to see of interest in and around Campbeltown Loch. After sitting for a few minutes next to the trig pillar I headed down on the much better path to the west. Before returning to the mainland I took a detour along the rocky coast to see the much talked about cave painting. I had forgotten to bring my torch, but it looked much better in the shadowy light anyway. This alone was worth making the trip over here for.

Horizontal crack at 1/3 and 2/3 height. Metal cap, wide raised letters. Tidal island, fine shapely hill. Half moon hence neap tide & not much exposed sand but easy walk. Crossing possible an hour or so either side of low tide I'd say. Adopted usual tactic of doing other things till it looked like low tide, but crossing times apparently displayed at Tourist info in town.
