Having accessed the driveway from Knowsley Lane used the intercom by the gates to contact estates asking was access to the trig within their grounds possible. NO consequence of work being done within the grounds was the somewhat abrupt answer. True perhaps but more than likely a 'fob-off'...Whatever happened to the 'good old days' when people were nice & favours done just because & without personal gain?

Very, lucky to find someone waiting to enter the park by the lodge @ SJ 442931. A second person arrived using the keypad to open the gates and we followed them in. Intended to find someone to ask but no one around near the big house. Spotted security guard parked up and he very kindly escorted me up to the trig (after a little begging). He said Lord and Lady Derby were willing to allow visits with permission but i have since heard this has been withdrawn due to too many requests. Estate Managers - Martin Harker and Edward Paddy (always helps to have a name) - good luck

Many thanks to those who helped with information on how to gain access, very nice to have met some fellow triggers and share the odd story or two,it's not often you need to be escorted to a pillar but on this occasion our guide was very informative and more than happy to help in anyway possible. It will still be in Lancs long after I suspect some politician as once again reorganised local goverment but for the time being I needed this pillar as the u/a top of Knowsley, also had a look at a bus stop(Sefton u/a) and a water tower( Liverpool u/a) while I was in the area.

I was very privileged to be able to visit this Trigpoint as it is in the middle of the private part of Knowsley Park, not normally accessible to the public. It may just be visible from the Safari Park as I could see rhinos. It is the nearest to my home and I was able to find a friend with the necessary clearances to pay the visit.

The Pillar and The Stand The Stand is a three storey tower which was used by the Earls of Derby to watch horse races in their own park. It is now derelict having lost its domed roof many years ago.
