Not a good day for views - zero visibility apart from a quick break in the cloud - headed out from Inverie on the track heading North (Mam Uidhe) Access onto the hill from the SW climbed up to the ridge and traversed the ridge dropping down onto Mam Barrisdale. From here headed up onto Luinne Bheinn, visibility no better at the summit. Reversed ourselves back off the hill to the Barrisdale pass and dropped back to Inverie. 30k day and did the beer taste good in the Old Forge that night.

My Munro #117 Climbed with 'Sealf4', Andy Bolgar & about 15 other Knoydart Forestry Trust & John Muir Trust work party organisers and volunteers. Spent 2 weeks in June 2009 helping on a JMT work party in Knoydart part of the 10th anniversary of the land buy-out and the final push to rid Inverie and surrounding woodlands of the wretched invasive Rhododendron Ponticum that choked the area. Tough days labouring in the woods followed by long nights in the Old Forge. One evening the head of the Knoydart Forest Trust said "who fancies watching the sun rise from the top of Ladhar Bheinn?" No one need to be asked twice and about 18 of us piled into a couple of the KFT's rust bucket trucks and drove out to Gleann na Guiserein setting off up Ladhar Bheinn at about 10.30 and reaching the summit just before midnight. As myself and another volunteer Andy had come to Knoydart with the hope of completing its 3 Munros at some point during our visit we left the rest to bivvy down for the night to watch the sunrise over the Western Isles and we cracked on to complete Luinne Bheinn and Meall Buidhe, returning to the Long Beach Bunk House about 9am the next day. To this day one of the most extraordinary adventures of my life. Could not have done it without the support and help of Andy, I nearly threw the towel in on the ascent of Luinne Bheiin, and he nearly quit on the way up Meall Buidhe. We made a good team. Absolutely bloody amazing experience. Sadly I subsequently lost the pictures of the Ladhar Bheinn TP after a hard drive failure, I can only offer the attached picture taken about 5 minutes before we reached the top of this amazing mountain...

This has got to be one of my best days ever in the Scottish mountains. A good walk up from Inverie via Aonach Sgoilte and the weather was near perfect all the way. Fine conditions on top with views as far as you can imagine! Trig point is badly damaged - a large chunk off the top is missing (see pics) - I guess it may have been struck by lightning.

What a seat! Views all round on a very clear day in April
View west from summit ridge View included Rum, Canna and Skye, with South Uist visible just behind the ridge. Part of a larger panorama.©littlejim

Got a boat across Loch Hourn, and went up from the shore. Done in a savage snowstorm (Mid June!) Pillar OK, surprising as I would expect a fair bit of meteological vandalism up here. Is it still there? Difficult descent - NE of the hill IS magnetic, and tricky snow work with a trekking pole ( no axe in June on the West Coast!)
