Done in late afternoon, Parked at the opening/gate at NJ724099 and straight lined it, hit the deer fence at NJ721021 walked by it to the top. Back same way. Braken, heather & fallen trees made tough going. If this is not for you best going the usual way from Lay-by near NJ743036. Stunning views from the top all way round.

An unpromising start, walking through a battered landscape with much tree-felling evident. Got a wave from two of the lumberjacks. But it soon became obvious that Meikle Tap is rather special, and today I was aurally accompanied by the cuckoo's call, my first of this year. It went on.....and on, all the way to the top. Or should that be the tap? Loved it. Near the top/tap I met two women walkers with their dog 'Amber' who strangely took a liking to me and for whatever canine reason, wanted to stay with me. Quite a touching little scene. The pillar has an open cap, and two sight-holes open. Meikle Tap is a lovely little hill, or maybe not so little. But whatever its size, it has sensational views from the top. .

Good roadside parking for 5 to 6 cars on B977 south of Echt between Newfield and Tillyshogle. Walked through the obvious forestry entrance and followed the path (only shown on the 1:25000) all the way to the pillar. Good clear views all round . Even spotted an old BM on the rock next to the trig. With Nozzer.

Roadside parking N57° 07.374' W2° 25.579'/NJ 74286 03624. Followed obvious track up firebreak and then as shown on 1:25k. Easy route all the way to the trigpoint.

Network of shallow cracks, maybe just the old whitewash. No cap or plug. Heathery summit, Rough but clear path from ENE, a surprise as not marked on my LR38.
