Drove north east through Longstanton to dead end of residential road close to footpath through construction site (at the time). Academy and college buildings to north of site, wanted to get to south east side of site. There’s a road through the site but no idea how to get to it so there’s probably an easier way than the one I took. Across site, some paths, some just muddy wet ground. Negotiated a couple of fences. Pillar a bit forlorn looking on fenced area of wet ground a couple of hundred metres south of College. Ground has been removed from around the base so it is standing on its plinth. Nasty chip out of one corner, looks quite recent, careless construction workers possibly. Shame. Not sure if the pillar has been moved but doesn’t look like it. Hopefully it will remain where it is and not damaged any further. Spider and cap in place. Removed a couple of small yellow target stickers, might have been used for target practice.

Went in search of this trig today cycling from St.Ives on the Busway Cycle path and pretty much followed the same route in as the previous log, having a few fences to climb to get access to the trig. The trig has now a corner missing most likely been damaged by heavy plant machinery. The area is in the process of being developed for housing so not sure what will happen to the trig.

Weaved my way around all the new dolls houses till i got to the new school. From here there are lots of fences and barriers telling you keep out (even through they have built all the paths and cycle paths already. So i just climbed the wooden fence and went around the steel security fences. Looks like the trig may survive the next round of houses and they have landscaped around it.

He told us you are on private property didn't you see the signs. we told him we would have ask permission but didn't know where to ask. He watched us until we left the site. He also told us that land was going to be used for housing in the future.

According to the local development plan this pillar will be just inside the school grounds when it is built. The aircraft hangers shown in Peregrinus' 'back' photo have been demolished, as have most other structures on and around the airfield.

Had a slice of luck here as the gates opposite Brookfield Farm were open so I parked up and walked confidently along the concrete track to the trig. Its all intact with original plug - raised letters. Traces of paint. NW sighthole closed; all the others open. An interesting piece of green and yellow rope tied to one of the hooks at the top! When I got back to the car there was a small group of people gathered round wanting to know what I had been doing and why I was parked there. I explained but they didn't seem convinced! I'll probably get a court marshall now!
