To paraphrase the latest ad for Cadbury's Dairy Milk Ice Cream, "I already knew I was going to love this trig". Inspired by Sealf4 (7/6/14), I too chose this adventure as a 60th birthday present to myself. And I wasn't disappointed. I thought the crossing from Skye was a bit rough ( the skipper only rated it 2/10 for roughness). but when we got to St Kilda it was magically sunny and the view from this pillar down to the old village had a WOW factor for atmosphere.

What can you say about this one rough swell on crossing mist broke on the summit spectacular views from the trig. Left my walking poles at the national trust shop its a job to go back for them!

Tempting to give this one a 10! It must be the trig of trigs for locations. Lovely stone-built pillar located 200m due south of the island summit - and cannot be seen from the summit. Oddly the OS installed a trig rivet at the summit at the same time, so not an afterthought as I'd imagined it might have been. Original top cap is retained with raised lettering; all sight holes open.

Logging this in 2020. Another one I missed logging when joining this site. My trip to St Kilda was a 60th birthday present to myself . It was a bit last minute on a trip to Harris when I realised that the weather was going to be very good for a visit. It didn't disappoint and I have to award full marks because I don't think this experience can be beaten.

Could there really be any other score? Rough crossing on the way with most people reacquainting themselves with their breakfast. Beautiful sunny day on arrival and the whole archipelago was just as stunning and dramatic as had been anticipated. Did a tour of the tops with the smile never leaving my face :) Mega mega mega! Smooth ride home including a sail round Boreray and the stacks. Kilda Cruises highly recommended. Do it folks, or you'll regret it!

It's funny the emotional energies we sometimes expend, just to take a wee ride in a boat and then go for a walk up a hill. I was lucky enough to get here on my first time of asking, though I met another, who on his fourth attempt finally managed to make the crossing. Standing next to the pillar in the beaming sunlight and looking down over Village Bay a heavy load of anxiety and stress I'd been harbouring for days suddenly lifted off me. To me, and I'm sure many others, this is THE trig to get to, and to have been able to log it in perfect conditions is all that I could have ever wished for.

Stone-built trig with GPS plaque some distance S of true summit.Spider intact. Reached the summit just as the sun appeared over an invertion with Boreary & the stacs standing clear in isolation --- amazing. Previously visited this true outpost of the British Isles 02,03 & 04/06/02 & 16/05/06 no trig details noted.

vgc, stonebuilt, metal cap, wide raised letters, also GPS plaque. Daytrip with kildacruises: we first summited Dun which is superb. 4 days previously we summited Boreray which is even better. Also found the other Hirta trig (bolt) - on Claigeann Mor. The OS trig archive lists 2 other trigs in square NA0900: Conachair (rivet) and Mullach Mor (bolt)

Inverness-shire. A major goal achieved in getting here. It has been on the wish list for years. The whole place is unique, unlike any other Scottish island. The approach to Conachair and the descent leave you open to regular attacks from Great Skuas at this time of year. The number of nesting pairs is still on the increase, there weren't any before 1968. Plug with raised lettering.

What a great place... shame it was so misty that we could not see more than 10-15 metres. Without our GPSr and mapping we would have got lost but we just had to come and see the most remote trig point in the UK!

A hell of a climb up from sea level, in the mist, but the GPSrs brought us straight to it, and kept us well away from the 1000ft+ cliffs. Trig in fine shape and must have out of this world views when the cloud level isn't 700ft lower than it is. The only trig I've ever logged, so you know it must have been good!

There are wonderful views. Apparently.

vgc; below & 200m S of summit (doubtless to view Village); stonebuilt; metal cap; raised wide letters. OS info (2002) states "NONE Former FB S8820" but FB S8820 still present 6/5/03 c.40cm above base, seen by RHW & C Upson. Summit has the lower 40cm of a pillar apparently built to similar design. 25k map shows a trig symbol here, also "SD"; was a sun dial - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/21105, taken by Ian Mitchell on 24th July 1969. 25k map also shows a trig symbol on Claigeann Mor, NF087989, on S side of island, but I couldn't spot anything (presumably is or was a bolt there). We went over on the MV Cuma - in a Force 7! Planned a more leisurely exploration the next day but the weather got worse :-(. Ought to score 10 if they'd only remove that wretched MoD clutter - amazing archipelago.
