Asked at the house, had a good chat about trigs. They say they will clear the a path to the trig.

From Manningtree station along the river Stour and then headed due north to Stutton Hall. Secreted in woodland and not that easy to find.

Pulled up in Stutton village. Walked south on drive to Stutton Hall, took first track on right, the left at next lane. Where lane bears to the right a farm track goes left. It’s as if you’re heading in to the back garden of the house just passed on the left. Pillar is under a tree which was in blossom at the time. Could be even more hidden by vegetation in a month or so. Pleasant quiet location but no views.

I parked in village up the road from the pub, then along through park gates and over to the Pillar, spoke to owner of the cottage, who pointed me in the right direction. Very easy to find now as the area has been cleared. Pillar good condition.

We drove down the track instead of walking as we should have done. We were told off by a gamekeeper but then he showed us where the pillar was, would never have found it without his help. Very overgrown but in good state of health (The pillar not the gamekeeper). My 100th trig, next target is to complete Derbyshire.

I would never have found this without the help of the lady from the adjacent cottage who kindly pointed to the [just visible] top above a mound of trees, nettles and brambles. Took quite an effort to get to it! There is a concrete plug replacement and quite a lot of white paint. All sightholes below vegetation level. Cuckoo nearby. Some views south but others obliterated.
