Too hot for man or beast. The young bullocks looked at me, but didn’t stir. I looked at them, and carried on up the hill. Usual route, up the attractive tree lined track, over gate and up the hill.

Same parking and route as Wheresthatpenguin. I think pillar is in good condition, foundations are showing due to erosion, but pillar is in great nick, slight lean, OS cap in place, three sight holes open. Good 360° views to boot too.

My first trig point bagged in Scotland! Parked on the bend in the road to the south east of the pillar. Took the track that heads south west from there and then climbed over a gate into the trig field. Then headed north west up Quhytewollen hill to the pillar. The pillar is next to what is known on here as 'The Hass Post' - another trig point (TP7914). Not sure why this is categorised as damaged. It has a slight lean and the base is partially exposed, but other than that it is good condition. Hence, I have classified this as slightly damaged. My first visit to Scotland since 1994!

Parked at bend in road at nt153828. West along a tree lined road track. Climbed the padlocked gate then a short but steep ascent to reservoir and summit. Pillar base is visible. Spider top intact. Another smaller rectangular concrete block stands upright within 2 metres of the main pillar. Views west across Lockerbie. Poor visibility, prevents a probably amazing panoramic view.

Approached from easterly direction along a farm track. Met two of the farmers on a quad bike at the gate who were very happy to let me walk up to the summit even though there were cattle grazing nearby with their young. Grassy summit with bare earth round the pillar. Since the last logged visit this pillar has developed a pronounced lean to the west and shall henceforth be known as The Leaning Pillar of Lockerbie! Has it had a meeting with a cow using it as a scratching post? It has also been the victim of some scratched graffiti. FB faces E, W sighthole plugged, all others open. Original top with sunken letters, covered in bird poo. Position logged from GPS device accurate to ±5m.
