One of two trigs that I visited during an 8.5 mile circular walk that I led out of Haworth for Hike &:Seek Walking Group. This was the second, just a short walk from Top Withins. The trig is on a flat top away from the edges and so the views are not that good. However, just a short distance away, the views through the valley that includes Top Withens are much better. I think the ground level around the base has been raised slightly over the years. The pillar is in generally good condition. The original centre for the spider has been replaced with a plain disc.

(408) We enjoyed a fine family walk from Back Lane to the Brontë waterfall and bridge (heaving with all kinds of folk), and then up to Top Withins and then on to the trig via the good track across the moor, straight out from the back of the ruins. The pillar commands a wonderful spot with great views; it is weathered and has a replacement cap, but the open moorland and easy access make this one a great trig to visit. We returned on a slightly different line via Goaten Hill, and then enjoyed a wander around Haworth. Great outing.

It needs a coat of white paint! Short walk from Top Withins [40+ years since I was last here - no laid stones in those days!] from the path at the back of the ruin. Lots of people around the ruins, but no one on the top. Like being in 2 worlds. Half way point of today's circuit. Onto Stanbury and then back to Dimples Lane. Very enjoyable walk.

Brilliant trig, never even knew it was up there! Always wondered where the track behind top withens led to and having hiked from stanbury up to top withens many times I've never taken that uphill track so this time I thought I would and it didn't disappoint ! Great views and trig is in very good condition but would love to see it painted white! Amazing views over towards crow hill heather hill and lad law also Keighley Moor and beyinf, could even see as far as the woodland on Rawdon billing near Leeds Bradford Airport. Simply amazing and not a soul I'm sight

From Blake Dean. An evening walk around all Walshaw Dean Reservoirs, then up PW and off to the two Withins Height summits, which were on tussock moor rather than the heather I'd anticipated. Then over to the trigpoint and back to Top Withins on the path. Quick visit to the summit of Dick Delf Hill on the way back. I've visited Top Withins a few times but don't remember walking up to the trigpoint. A good path goes from the ruin. Despite some nice rocks nearby, trig is located in a slightly dull spot!

Made it! Great walk over from Penistone Hill, the path and route to Top Withins is spectacular, especially over the Bronte bridge. Took a while to find the trig on the top with all the Heather and lost the path. Found it in good order, though, just as the sun was setting, nice spot. Bit of a dash back then in the fading light.

Parked on Back Lane, Stanbury. From there, took the public right of way (PRoW) up to Top Withens. Then took the track (not marked on OS Maps for some reason) from the western side of Top Withens, up to the pillar on Withens Heights. Top Withens is a ruined farmhouse which is said to have been the inspiration for the location of the Earnshaw family house in Emily Bronte's 1847 book, Wuthering Heights. Once at the pillar, you can see Crow Hill to the north west. Crow Hill is where on the 2nd September 1824, there was a huge explosion from a bog burst. Emily, Anne, and Branwell Bronte were walking in the area at the time, and managed to escape to nearby Ponden Hall just in time, when a huge torrent of water and mud caused by the bog burst flooded across the area in which they had just been walking in a few moments earlier

Nice walk up to this one past Top Withins. The earlier sunshine was now fast disappearing and the wind was getting up as well. When I cam to look at my photos I was convinced the number was S4818/9 but the number is clearer on other photos.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 1st May 1948 costing £13.14s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T48 in 1948. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision tertiary standards during 1962. Last maintained by the OS in October 1980. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from ENE. Ample parking on north side of road just west of Stanbury at SE006370. Headed SW up Back Lane to join the Pennine Way. Continued up PW until reaching the ruins at the side of Delf Hill. Then a random route NW until locating the trig which is north of the true summit. Pillar in fair condition, minor surface decay but otherwise good. Spider contains grey plastic disc fitted by Jon Rouse, 16/07/2000. Flush bracket faces east compass measurement 101°. Three sight holes open, north face remains plugged, innards filled with debris. Full 360° open outlook.

To locate take a worn path behind Top Withins, once found enjoy the view as in bright weather like we enjoyed whilst there, it is superb. After bagging trig we headed off to explore the Alcomden Stones nearby.

A wet and blowy walk up from Ponden Reservoir via the spectacular Ponden Clough - a much quieter route than the tourist route via Bronte Falls. True broody 'Bronte country' weather today so not much of a view. Trig has plastic plug and a small crack running down one side from the top but otherwise ok.

Visited whilst out on a trigging and caching walk. Easily accessible and highly visible. Although not on a right of way path there is a walked path from behind Top Withins that takes you directly to the pillar. Pillar in good condition and is a nice view point over the surrounding moorland. After visit followed another walked path to the cache at Alcomden Stones.

Fantastic walk starting from Penistone Hill over Oxenhope Stoop Hill to join the Pennine Way to get the jawdropping sight of Top Withens from above. Good path now climbs to trig on Stanbury Moor from just behind the ruin and another leads roughly ENE from it to rejoin the Pennine Way for the return via Bronte Falls. If you are going to visit Top Withens I'd strongly recommend this route (i) 'cause it's quiter than the tourist tramp via Bronte Falls and (ii) Top Withens disappears into the moor behind as a silohette if you climb up to it, but if you approach from above it is laid out below you in its setting. See the photo if you don't believe me!!

Visited this on a glorious, sunny, early morning walk from Penistone Hill car park. Fantastic weather and superb views all round. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera - so no photies I'm afraid.

Fairly decent view today towards the Ribblesdale peaks. Nice spot at this time of year as the heather's in bloom. If coming up from 'Top Withins' (follow John Rileys's log) the trig isn't apparent until you get quite close to it.

lovely day, clear view right to the lakes alongside ingleborough, the other way it's selby's cooling towers. Miles and miles. The sheep at top withens itself will fight you for food, don't encourage 'em!!

The first 'legal' visit under the new CROW Act facilities though it is clear from the well blazed path to the trig point that many others have been here before, and not just since last September!

Close to the Pennine Way and Top Withins (Wuthering Heights). There is a small path going first North then NW up Delf Hill behind Top Withins which leads to the trig. Good views on a clear day.
