The inscription above the door reads: HENRY SCOTT RIDDELL Born 1798. Died 1870. Sleep on gentle bard for though silent for ever Thy harp in the hall of the chieftain is hung No time from the memory of mankind shall sever The tales that it told and the strains it sung.

A lovely walk up to the monument with great views across to the Mintos, Ruberslaw and Skelfhill Pen. Saw lots of skylarks too.

Yah first log! Its clearly visible from the A7 around Teviothead. The monument is to local poet the Revd Henry Scott Riddell who lived nearby. According to the entry on the geograph site the monument is hollow and on occasions you can go inside. Must get a closer look someday when Im passing and have more time.
