Good condition pillar with the exception of some damage to the top screed. FB faces east-ish with the cap missing and no plug. All sightholes are open but blocked internally so no pillar bolt. Came up from Inveruglas via Loch Sloy. Reached the dam then just headed straight up the side. Very very steep until the bealach, then easy walk along the ridge. Descended via Coire na Baintighearna until the mapped track then followed that down. Long day.....

Parked in the Inveruglas visitor centre car park(free). Followed the A82 south then took the tarmac track which heads under the railway & towards Loch Sloy dam. About half a mile before the dam there is a small cairn on the right of the track which indicates the point to start the long, sometimes boggy ascent. Superb location, with views in all directions,Ben Lui dominating to the north,Ben Lomond to the SE & views down Loch Lomond. The true summit isnt at the trig but at the crag & cairn which is 2m higher,200m further north along the top.

Couldn't see much at the moment I was at the pillar. The mist was down and the wind was howling. Given some of the views I did enjoy today, I imagine it is pretty spectacular on a good day. I should have visited the trig before having my lunch just below the actual summit (a little north of the trig).

Note this is BEN VORLICH in the Arrochar Alps by Loch Lomond. The other Ben Vorlich by Loch Earn (S6931,NN629189) is listed by its OS official name COIRE GARBH. Anyhow, S6510: Pillar in reasonable condition but much of the top surface has been lost to frost. Spider: OS centre plug lost, centre open. All four sighting holes open, pillar bolt buried by debris dropped down centre pipe. Flush bracket faces 71° ENE. Climbed the Ben in an anti-clockwise circle starting and finishing at Ardlui. There are no continuous paths on much of that route. Perfect visibility and a sunny day helped with navigation, but not to be recommended in poor conditions. S6510 was built as a secondary station in Block NS29, Greenock at a cost of £102.2s.0d, around five times the average cost of a pillar in the early 1950s. Views to Ben Alder, Ben More, Coire Seicheach, Coire Garbh, Ben Ledi, Ben Cleugh, Ben Venue, Meikle Bin, Ben Lomond, Ailsa Craig, Goat Fell, Ben Narnain, Ben Ime, Jura, Ben More (Mull), Ben Cruachan, Dunaneach, Ben Nevis. My favourite of the Arrochar Alps on account of the amazing views in all directions, particularly of lower Loch Lomond and its islands. Quickly reached by going straight to the dam and heading directly north-east up the steep slopes with the ridge top in sight all the way and then its an easy walk across to Ben Vorlichs various tops.
