no sign of trig but if it\'s been moved once I suppose it could have been moved again and there are plenty of places in the area to hide it, stone circle in it\'s place, I did have a 15 minute look around and found a tv,fridge and 2 baths all within a few hundred metres.
Revisit to check no sign of trig since last visit on the 25-06-08. stone circle in position of original trig location could be the stones from my photo. Information board missing from middle of circle? RIP
im afraid splash was right i spent the best part of an hour searching.pity as its a nice site.a stone circle seems to have appeared on sight .
The quarry has been filled in. No sign of the trig now. Walked along the edge and over the field.
Bike ride from Cudworth, The trig as been moved to edge of wood, bad damage all metal work and number plate missing.
Its a shame the trig wasnt replaced back in its original location after the quarrying finished, instead it stands at an angle abandoned at the edge of the field. At least it hasnt gone altogether.
Seems a bit vulnerable out of the ground and getting a bit eroded on the top but at least it has survived.
Although it's obviously been moved it's good to see it still surviving. The quarry as shown in the photo's from ted & iainmac has been filled in. View from the trig poor but from the lip of the wood there's a good view of the area west of Barnsley. Started at Wombwell railway station. No cars, on foot!
Reasonable condition - definitely looks like it has been moved. Visited whilst nearby at a geocache
We parked to the east on a 'closed' road and headed up through the wood. I was surprised when I saw previou logs as the 'quarry' (opencast coal mining I suspect) has disappeared, and instead of a gapin hole next to the trig there is short pasture. The trig's in the same position but has a few more large rocks around it. Plug replaced with metal insert.
plastic cap, vgc but uprooted and leaning, at N edge of quarry just outside copse, maybe safe
Trig Point has clearly been moved. Where it used to be is now an open cast mine. Good view of the deep hole in the ground caused by the mining.
This one was a surprise. The trig is no longer in its original location but has been moved about 100 yds south, to the edge of the woodland -it looks safe there for the time being although much of the hill top has gone to opencast mining operations. Access via the footpath from the west is OK; elsewhere, minor roads have been closed and paths diverted. Hopefully the beech trees will survive as well.
Easily spotted from the road, there's a footpath through the field although you will need to divert a little to get to the pillar.
