The most accessible mountain in the Brecons - according to the information board at the Cefn y Galchen car park where we parked. Walked up to the trig on a cold but cloud-free sky, then on to the carn to the north where the best views are to be had, we then walked a further 400m to the east before heading SW back to the road at Carn-y-gorfydd, returning via the road. Pillar is brilliant white, including the flush bracket, which is getting difficult to read due to the build-up of paint. Pillar is in generally good condition, but have classified it as 'slightly damaged' due chips in the top edges and for the missing plug. 1 sight hole open (under the FB), the other 3 closed.

It gets a bit better if you go about 600 metres north east and overlook Abergavenny. Today it was warm and sunny, unlike my previous visit when it was blowing a gale and cold. This was hard earned as the cycle ride up (from the east) goes from 40m to 510m with little respite, and it was blowing a gale with occasional snow. On the rather dull domed top the wind chill was ferocious and the summit wind break very welcome. The shape of the hill restricts really good views and there is no feeling of elevation. The masts don't add much either, nor the various dumped articles going down on the Blaenavon side. Probably best to stick to the north and east flanks if on foot.
