TP1687 - Broomieknowe Golf Course
Logged Visits:
A cracking spring morning. Brillinat sunshine and a good day to tackle some unknown roads on the bike with a round of trig bashing. Easy walk up from main road and found lurking behind wall.
Beautiful day. Parked at Pittendreich Nursing Home. Easy access to GC from there. Very few golfers about.
Revisited.
Took advantage of January rain, just drove in to golf club car park and walked up. Hardly anybody around.
Parked up lane off Melville Dykes opposite cottage on right. follow line of trees then wall to 11th tee(advantage of snow)
Not been visited for a while but looking good Lovely golf place Walked in from radio mast at road side up ( gap in hedge )to where trig is at other side of wall on tee area
Pleasant location beside the 11th Tee.
A lovely pillar by a wall in an earth patch close to the 11th tee [183 yard par 3!]. Original plug with slightly indented letters [looks recently polished]. Much paint, especially on S and E faces. All sightholes closed. Reasonable golfing views!
Good condition, with spider cap. Lots of golfers about tonight.
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, edge of golf cse just S of wall
Walked up in the rain from the clubhouse. Manicured golf course, pillar just off 10th tee. Its the sodding Tea Party at Holyrood today, so of course it was persisting down.
Quiet day on the golfy. A fine gemme.
Broomieknowe Golf Course is just outside the Midlothian town of Lasswade. This golf course is private but it is possible to visit the trig pillar without disrupting play. Enter the lane off Melville Dykes Road at NT309663. Once clear of the houses on the left, follow the northern boundary of the golf course until you reach the trig pillar. The trig pillar is in very good condition and still has its original OS cap with engraved lettering. The FB number was partly buried by fallen leaves, but this was easily cleared. The flush bracket is on the southeast side of the pillar. Ground to the west of the pillar has been artificially raised to accommodate golf. Revisited by GRP, 9th November 2002.
