A cracking spring morning. Brillinat sunshine and a good day to tackle some unknown roads on the bike with a round of trig bashing. Easy walk up from main road and found lurking behind wall.

A lovely pillar by a wall in an earth patch close to the 11th tee [183 yard par 3!]. Original plug with slightly indented letters [looks recently polished]. Much paint, especially on S and E faces. All sightholes closed. Reasonable golfing views!

Walked up in the rain from the clubhouse. Manicured golf course, pillar just off 10th tee. Its the sodding Tea Party at Holyrood today, so of course it was persisting down.

Broomieknowe Golf Course is just outside the Midlothian town of Lasswade. This golf course is private but it is possible to visit the trig pillar without disrupting play. Enter the lane off Melville Dykes Road at NT309663. Once clear of the houses on the left, follow the northern boundary of the golf course until you reach the trig pillar. The trig pillar is in very good condition and still has its original OS cap with engraved lettering. The FB number was partly buried by fallen leaves, but this was easily cleared. The flush bracket is on the southeast side of the pillar. Ground to the west of the pillar has been artificially raised to accommodate golf. Revisited by GRP, 9th November 2002.
