TP1830 - Bygrave

Much much improved access now. Used the Icknield Way from the A507 just N of Blackhorse Farm. The track is concrete all the way to building marked on the Landranger Map (house & barns); I parked there. The way itself has been resurfaced, I think, since previous visitors, its quite firm now. Nice views, plenty of rape, and 2 skylarks for company.
Nearly lost in brambles and bushes. Nice views
Nice easy find. Getting a bit hidden from the path by bushes but clear from the field side. Good condition with metal work in place
Spur of the moment visit without reference to this page or online maps.Parked in the same layby as Rhayader_wanderer.My 20 year old 50K shows the track up to the trig but as there were no PROW signs at the end I elected to use the bridleway north of Blackhorse Farm which was marked and then the footpath northward across to the track.Was beginning to wonder if the trig had gone but found it hiding in the bushes which have extended considerably since the photo by Pharisee.Pleasant views all round.As the sun was still shining decided to carry on north and do a circular trip.Don't believe my map or the current online 50K -- the bridleway runs on the metalled track south of the Cat Ditch.Explored Bygrave then south to pick up my outward route.
No bike with me but It would have been a great one for it. Parking in a Nbound layby just north of the Nook then walk back. Anyone else noticed the farmer has coriander mixed in with his rape crop?
Easy cycle ride up from A507. Track may get wet, but will dry very easily in any sun/wind thanks to drainage and soil-type. Trig in next to solitary tree on the top of the hill. Lots of good views (for this part of the world!).
Not alot more to add :-;
Walked a little further up the (very muddy) Icknield Way to log this T/P after doing a check on my Bygrave Plantation geocache. It’s complete and in good condition (the trig point, not my geocache). The views, mostly just farmland and small patches of woodland, are average without being spectacular.
vgc; metal cap small raised letters; by hawthorn S edge of b/w
Nice spot with all round views.
Nice views - did this after the Plantation #3 geocache
This is another pillar on the Icknield Way, just to the west of the village of Bygrave. It is very easy to access. |
