Walked up from Plenmeller. Great views from here but surrounding ground is rough. Approach from north is more interesting. Trig in good condition with a skull on the top! Photo does not do justice to the great view of Cold Fell in the background.
Great views.Walked from highest point on road on clearish path.
Appraoched from east. Parked on verge on NE side of road at NY728609 where RoW crosses. Be careful to avoid driving over insecure manhole covers. Through gate onto old road then straight line across moor to trig. Pillar in good condition. Spider has replacement OS cap with raised small letters. Flush bracket faces 92° east. Vented through south sight hole. 360° open outlook.
guessing it would have been nicer if i wasn't being pelted with hail!
Nice views all round. We came up from Haltwhistle. The ROW across the moor from Milldam Plantation is indistict. It's far easier to follow the track running alongside the grouse butts and head up to the moor top following the sheep trails as best you can, the trig is clearly visible from the last grouse butt. As John comments, if approaching from other directions you won't see the trig until you reach the crown of the hill. Now on access land but I got the sense that it's a little visited stretch of moorland. Somewhat puzzled by andyc's entry, it's hard to imagine an open cast mine anywhere near this trig?
100th trig!
vgc, metal cap, small raised letters, heathery summit, nice view
It was a cold and dull Easter Saturday morning. I approached from the West from Park Village via Lynnshield and accross Ramshaw Fell. I was having doubts on the final rise that there may be nothing on the summit and my first 'first' would be a failure. Then I saw it standing there just as I had hoped, and in excellent condition. Its a lonely tract of grouse moorland with views up to Hadrian's Wall area. Altogether an enjoyable early morning run. Note added 05-09-06: If anyone is puzzled by my reference to my first 'first' its because I was the first to log this trig on this website. Obviously andyc and jimmy had visited earlier but logged later.
Nearly engulfed by Opencast mining and conveyor belts. visited on return from a scout walk. |
