Camping in Coniston, so able to walk from the tent. Not as hard to find as the map suggested, although the compass was useful. The views from this trigpoint were fantastic, a real 360 view to linger over. Slight weathering to top of pillar, nothing serious. Concrete plug. Nice FB number painted yellow numbers.

Parked at the Grizedal Visitor Centre (currently under redevelopment) and did the 'green route'. This 10 miles route is know as the Silurian Way and culminates - after about 8 miles - with a trip to the Crag. Snow showers all day that reduced the visibility at the trig. Amazingly saw just a handful of other walkers all day and only 1 swarm of cyclists.

Great views over that sweep of south lakeland that is the preserve of the foresters. The trees look like a sea sitting below the surrounding cliffs of the Wainwrights (Coniston very big in the foreground, Langdale, Fairfield and Kentmere )- you can see why he drew his boundary where he did. Pass through the door out of the childrens play area, turn right, go past the farm and then follow the red posted trail on your left up the hill (750ft,3miles,2 hours). Bagged on a superb, mild and clear January morning, with mists swirling down below on the lakes themselves. The forest paths are designed more the service the forest than offer a direct route to the summit so this adds distance. The final few feet to the trig is an enjoyable scramble. Trig base getting nicely eroded.
