TP2018 - Castlandhill Resr
Logged Visits:
Perimeter fence has been repaired, but accessible over old gate where wall from south meets fence.
From the nearest point outside the fence to the pillar is around 14m. Pillar looks in good condition. Couldn't see any metalwork or sightholes due to long grass. The NW corner of the fence looks scalable due to a slump in the lower-half. However, decided to not set a bad example to the accompanying child...Good views from the hill though especially west along the firth.
locked in resr. stopped in edinburgh for toby carvery
Easy access round to the right gate is secured by a bit of wire Good views of Rosyth
Hole in fence @ NW corner of enclosure
In resevoir complex on hill close to Forth road bridge.Nice views over Rosyth and Firth of Forth.
Didn’t try to climb the fence so just took my picture from outside.
Visited as getting dark. SW corner of fence allows wriggled access beneath it to bag this one.
Built 29th April 1944. Secondary station in Block NT18, Dunfermline. Pillar VGC. Spider retains original OS centre plug with shallow engraved lettering. BSM flush bracket faces east. LHS sighting hole open, others plugged. On top of covered resr, site should be secure but much of the perimeter fence to the NW of the compound has been torn down. Views to Hill of Beath, East Lomond, Pilkham Hills, North Berwick Law, Skid Hill, Arthurs Seat, Blackford Hill, Allermuir Hill, Scald Law, West Cairn Hill, Tinto, Binny Craig, Cocklerue Hill, Ben Ledi, Dumyat, Ben Cleugh, Knock Hill, Dumglow. Original visit 1985, revisited and photographed 20/05/2004, GRP. Most recently revisited 14/02/2007; perimeter fence repaired but not secured at ground level.
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, on SW corner of covered resr, well defended, pillar visible from outside but FB faces inwards, BSM style. Decent viewpoint
Its not just the gate, I walked through a piece of fence torn down by local neds. Good view over Rosyth and across the Forth. Pillar in good condition perched on the edge of a covered reservoir. "BSM" type.
Out here on work, grabbed the trig as a bonus. Nice views over the Forth.
Reservoirs have high wire fences topped with razor wire everywhere BUT the gate.
First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 29th April 1944 costing £4.16s.3d. In 1946 this marker was computed for triangulation as secondary station NT18/11 in the Dunfermline block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1948. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in July 1983. On top of covered resr. Surrounding chain link fence was rusting away. Appears to have since been rewired. Large tanks may be disused. Good view of the Forth Bridges. |
