TP2150 - Chevin Hill
Logged Visits:
As others have noted its leaning quite a bit and has one side covered by a mess of wood and stones
Behind large pile of logs/branches but not too difficult to find
Hidden behind a log pile
Nothing's changed from 7 days before
-next to a pile of rocks behind a massive stack of chopped wood. Relatively easy to find, roughly opposite the small fenced-off mast.
Found on spoil pile of stones next to mast and golf coarse
I walked uphill, through one field and past a sleeping ‘wild camper’, from North Lane after visiting the nearby Chevinside pillar. The pillar is leaning to the east and has a pile of rocks up against it. It’s complete and apart from the lean, undamaged but it’s a bit precarious, especially if more rocks are added to the pile. No views to speak of.
Found Trigpoint easily although shocked at its now resting place it has obviously been moved at some time as i cannot remember it being here years ago sorry state onto the next trigpoint.
Ascended through 1 field from North Lane... pillar at a bit of an angle & rocks piled partly up 1 side.
Part of a walk from Duffield taking in Drum Hill and Sunny Hill. I wasn’t planning to go to Chevin Hill but as I checked my route I saw that it wasn’t too far away up North Lane. Only yards away from one of the tees on the golf course. Doubled back on my tracks down North Lane then across the golf course back along the Midshires Way to Duffield.
Out walking with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our route passed along North Lane. So it was an easy detour for me to hop over the gate and leg it up to the masts. Pillar is quite forlorn and unkempt with a covering of moss and as others have said has a tilt to starboard or perhaps port. However, it is still there. Retraced my steps and then legged it to catch up with my disappeared group.
I had to clamber over a gate to here as I could not get any closer. Trig is as others have mentioned not very upright. A lot of moss growth but its still here.
Good trek up to the trig point, parked in Milford. Walk through golf course was nice, and some good views, Unsure if this is correct but the land you have to cross is marked private keep out. From Midshires Way, through two gates. "I think that this has been moved when the communication masts were erected, the OS map I have shows this more in a different place, it looks as though its been moved and dumped in to tree line and hence the non vertical appearance" Other logs state that this is in correct place, so unsure.

Still leaning.Still mossy.Nothing fresh to add to previous logs.
This pillar is leaning quite markedly and again has some moss on it.
Up from Midshires way via gates. Pillar behind a pile of stones next to track - leaning but otherwise OK. Plug intact. No immediate view. Impressive bit of wall building on the track to E.
Access from midshires way path, via 2 gates. Still leaning but otherwise intact.
knocked at farm but no answer, had a walk up track anyway. the pilar is leaning but seems to be in correct location ( gps reading very close ).only view of the golf course.
Took the walk up from Sunnyside on the right of way across the golf course then cut across the single field. Interesting angle but not much oc a view
Nice location near a few mobile masts
Came in off Midshires way .Made a mess of map reading and ended up on golf course.Had a wander around .Nice course. Then out and back in nearer to phone masts.Pillar slightly leaning, otherwise ok.
30Aug02 found dumped onto spoil heap E side of tk, presumably during recent mast constr. Aug05 standing on SE side of track, leaning else vgc, metal cap shallow letters
Leaning, surrounded by rubble, but otherwise good. Original plug. On a rough area by a golf course, with new masts nearby, hence the excavations. GPS position near 2m, so probably not moved, just disturbed. Private.
I tried to use the good example set by lookingmrb&pwb but there was nobody at home so chanced my arm successfully. There is a golf course at the top of the hill on the land behind the trig.
Asked at farm and permishen was granted. they said that seeing as we had asked unlike some other baggers we could go up. they pledged that they would one day try to straten it up. it was damaed and moved in the building of the masts
We parked at a large layby next to the reservoir on Farnah Green Road. There is no public right of way on Chevin Hill but an obvious path leads to the masts. After we'd visited the trig the farmer arrived & told us we were trespassing (but it was too late then!). Plug with indented lettering.
As noted leaning but still intact. Mossy around its base. Surrounded by trees which nulify a view from the trig.
Leaning over at an angle, but otherwise in excellent condition, and probably still in original location - unable to get an accurate enough GPS fix to be certain - OS co-ordinates seem to point to centre of adjacent stone pile.
I would think that looking looking at the angle it is on it has definitely been moved; the pillar was surrounded by vegetation when I visited. Not the best pillar I have seen.
I also forgot the GPS to see if its been moved.
Think its near the original site, but definely taken a whack from some some sort of earth moving equipment. Now intact but at an angle, behind a lot of dumped stone. Hill a mass of masts and carries a golf course. Forgot the GPS on this one.
