TP3286 - Gaerwen

I just about managed to fit this trig in in between buses, having to rush between Cynwyd, here, and then Llandrillo with little time to spare. It was a grey and drizzly morning, so I've marked my score down a bit accordingly. On the way down I found a permissive Tir Gorfal bridleway (not marked on map) that led me eastsoutheast to Ty-isaf which was useful for a rapid descent.
The easy way to this is to drive up the road until you meet the bridleway, then take gate 50m SW and straight uphill to pillar.... but that would be dull! Much better to park 400m SE, over fence, play hide and seek with a herd of cows and calves, wade into bracken...wade out agin and follow wall until you reach fence. Follow uphill then carefully negotiate fence and wall to get to pillar .....easy !!
Metal plug [raised letters]. Private. Gaerwen Farm. On rounded hill Y Foel, highly visible across the Dee from Cynwyd. Cross the bridge & follow the minor road north beyond the crossroads. The next left turn is the "little yellow road" [actually a steep, narrow, tarmac lane]. As the hill is approached, an unlocked gate left gives access. It's then a stiff ascent of sheep pasture, to find the trig at the very top, just beyond a fence & wall [easily enough crossed at the corner].
Revisited for photos. No change. Grey day but great view. 3-turbine wind farm to W. M&Ss <little yellow road> is white on my old LR125; accordingly I came in from Glyn-yr-afon. Mapped f/p beyond Cil-gwri has been obliterated and replaced by a permissive path which I followed down. This path goes via M&Ss parking spot.
We parked due north at end of little yellow road, then across sheepy pasture to trig. Good views. Plug with raised lettering.
vgc, metal cap wide letters. Rough pasture, nice summit, lovely view. Cross pasture from f/p to W, park at start of farm track. |
