TP3312 - Garleigh Moor
Logged Visits:
Approach from east, good views of Simonside hills. passed grouse butts on approach. Cap missing. Visited some 8 years previously.
Second visit. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces NNW, ~329°. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view from top.
No views to start today due to very low clagg. Breezy and cool. Took in Tosson Hill trig then over Simonside to Garleigh Hill. The cloud had lifted a little but no distant views. Great trig this on a clear day though.
(see Target Plantation) ... and by now smart phone had lost battery, so no accurate time or position. Does it matter - no!
Collected this one after visiting the near-by hill fort and cup and ring marked stones. Lovely views in a big landscape, Cheviot in the distance looking regal with its new dusting of snow. Cup and ring marked rocks well worth a visit some of the best examples there are.
Nice area for walking
Walk up from Rothbury with a quick sprint up the craggy bit from the footpath on the west side. Cairn is higher than the Trig now.
Collected this one after logging a nearby geocache 'Lord and the Rings'. Found a gap in the wire fence and staight up the hillside through the rocks. Pillar in good condition. Original plug with indented lettering. One open hole. Almost dwarfed by cairn but wonderful views of the surrounding area.
nice little walk from car parkplus cup and ring marks
Quick jaunt across heather from car park
An easy ascent from the minor road onto a good hill. Did this after bagging Tosson Hill and crossing Simonside crag. Good spot with some excellent views but not with the awful weather today!
Fine bike ride. 30 mile round trip from Morpeth via The 3 Fords and back over Coat Yards moor from Forest Burn Gate with my son. The walk from Pt 217 on the road below TP was amusing in cycling shoes. I have found cup & ring markings on the moor in the past using Stan Beckensall's book.
Not a bad trig easy to get to only wish the weather was better
Bagged on circular walk from Rothbury via Tosson Hill, but you can approach this TP from car park at NZ052988. Fairly easy walking across moorland with noe fence to cross. Failed to find any cup and ring marked stones.
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, OK summit & view
Nice walk up. Placed an extra stone on top of the cairn :-)
BY a rather large cairn. Couldn't find any cup and ring marked stones here.
Trig pillar in good condition. Flush bracket facing in a northerly direction. Large cairn to the northeast of the pillar. Visited and photographed 24/08/1999, GRP.
Plug with indented lettering.
Was the closest to Felton (where i lived at the time) that was still unvisited. Short dash up in the rain. |
