HISTORY: Pillar completed 6th December 1947 costing £5.13s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NZ42/T85 in 1948. Recomputed as same in 1946. Levelled for height in 1953. Last maintained by the OS, 15th August 2000. SITE VISIT: Approached from SW. Safe parking, east side of road in junction of track at NZ740040. Direct route 150m along quiet unclassified road to top. Roadside pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~290°. Vented through SW sight hole. Full 360° open outlook.

I had walked from Grosmont to Pike Hill then on to Glaisdale Rigg – I’d done nine miles without seeing a sole – but this trigpoint is on the Coast to Coast path and so suddenly I had company. Continued down to Glaisdale. I had planned on catching the train but the weather had improved so I walked back making a sixteen mile round trip.
