C2C#7: bad weather put paid to any plans for Helvellyn, Birks or a diversion to High Street, so here we are at a destroyed trig under our nearest ROW rule! Quarry not working today but cement works under full steam. Marks for the views (excluding said cement works).

Agreed there is nothing at the quoted location. Seems an odd place for a pillar - quite a way from the summit of the hill, unless the land has been completely reshaped. Indeed the GPS location I took seemed to be about 10m lower than the pillar's original height. Interesting crag to S, and there is a roughly pillar-sized cairn at NY 58144 14014 which would seem a more sensible surveying position! It's definitely not OS though, although someone seems to have tried creating their own sight hole in it using an empty bottle... Hardendale Pike - position GPS location some 10m lower than pillar was! ©edfielden
Hardendale Pike - position GPS still in position, looking SSW ©edfielden

Quarried away and filled in again. Quarry is still active and there was a big dumper truck near the given grid reference. Hardendale Pike: The site. The foreground is backfilled quarry. ©fasgadh
