Parked same place as others, quick jog up pasture to trig. Unfortunately Man City scored 2 goals against Sunderland in the 5 mins I was out of the car, levelling the match. Bummer.

FOLLOWING THE ROAD FROM THORNTON YOU ARE GOING DOWNHILL! CLIMBED OVER RUBBLE ON TOP OF THE INFILLED RAILWAY CUTTING THEN FINALLY UPHILL ACROSS FIELD. IT'S SITING THEN BECOMES MORE UNDERSTANDABLE ON A HILL SPUR OUT INTO THE VALE OF PICKERING.

Visible and relatively easy to reach. Came from nearby road to cross footpath stile then immediately under gap in barbed wire. Pillar is in good condition. Some nice all round views.

If you approach this one along the lane from Thornton le Dale, it does not look to be a very exciting location, but then the view suddenly opens up in the last few yards. You can see the rollercoaster at Flamingoland and Knapton Maltings.

White pillar in grass field beside filled-in railway cutting of dismantled railway which once ran into Pickering. Railway overbridge and embankment to east still intact along line of hedge.
