Visiting the nearby slightly higher Bassett's Hill. Lapwing in attendance.
Walked up from Cranoe. Very hot sunny day. Actually walked past trig (big overgrown hedge season) on checking my MyNGR Blackberry app I quickly retraced my steps. Easily spottable when walking south. Bit of a fight through the undergrowth to reach it then the long hot slog downhill.
Blustery day (gusts measured at 44 mph) and overcast so views not as good as they probably are in the summer. Pillar in good condition and easy access as the brambles have died down for the winter.
Could have driven to this - but where's the pleasure in that ? Parked at entrance to farm drive and walked S up lane, past enormous bull in field by farm. TP cereal field side of ditch, but easy access; in vgc with original plug. Rolling dun coloured views. A mild morning with larks still singing and swallows still on telegraph wires. Wouldn't have heard or seen them if I'd driven !
Walked past when caching, tricky to get to as the ditch was overgrown.
Could well be possible to drive to this one, although could be a private lane. Anyway I parked at the farm to the north and walked up to it. Just in field at side of road with just a shallow ditch to cross to reach it. Everything in good order. Some nice views.
Just inside a field at roadside. Beware the brambles in the ditch.
cheated abit and drove straight upto it.
Decided not to drive so parked just off the main road and made the climb on the bike
Drive up farm lane,Parking at brow.Pillar field side of lane
Bagged on a circular walk from Hallaton via East Norton and Tugby. There is nothing stopping you from driving to this trig from the north. Easiest access to to enter field justb to the south of the trig and double back but beware of the marshy spot just inside the opening.
I aprked at the entrance to the farm not realising that I could actually have driven all the way up to the trig. Never mind - the exercise did me good and built up a thirst.
Side of the road. Plug with indented lettering.
