Done on circular walk from Fairholmes along with Outer Edge. A stiff climb to reach but extensive views make effort worthwhile.

Very boggy on the walk to this one, but the views up here make the walk worthwhile.

Quite a plod from Langsett, mostly dry underfoot until the summit area which was very boggy, especially the continuation to Outer Edge. Margery Hill The beauty of the walk up contrasts with the dreariness of the summit area.
Margery Hill Its main claim to fame is being the County Top for South Yorkshire.

Came over Broomhead Moor and shooters path by Cartledge Brook to join Wilfrey Edge path at high Stones, everywhere very wet and boggy, the BW was being strengthened to allow for Fire Engine access! To pump away the water I presume.

Superb walk along Howden Edge from Fairholmes, not too boggy with extensive views. Trig almost surrounded by large pool. Outer Edge trig easily visible from this location too. Sporting a fine white coat - must have been done recently.

Grim place on a wet day! Been here lots of times. There are several aircraft wreks around, if you know how to find them, including a round scar left in the peat by a flying bomb. Outer Edge pillar is not far across the moor, but always wet. Catch the bus to the end of the lane, that's what I say!

Pleasent afternoon for a walk, well worth the walk up, even if tough going for bits in the heather. Good all round views, and the pillar reasonable, surrounding pools, excellent for a picnic:)

I re-visited this pillar on 01 Aug 2006 after several earlier visits, the most recent being in Feb 2001. I found it much as I remember it, in good condition with very little erosion around because it stands on a small outcrop of rock. One new thing is a fenced-off area about 200 yards to the West of the pillar with a notice erected by the National Trust saying that the enclosed area has been identified as a Bronze Age burial mound and requesting walkers to keep out of the fenced area. _2965 - Margery in 2006

This is painted white and set in a ring of peat. At the time of our visit, it was incredibly misty, so although I'm sure the views are superb, we couldn't see a damn thing. Had to use the compass to find it, and to get back to the path. Plug replaced with plastic insert.

Getting a bit tired by this point, so stopped here for some lunch. Quite blowy and none too warm, but the rain held off nicely. After having some food, had much more energy, so decided to go on and bag the final trig in my planned route. The trigpoint

There are some superb views from this trig point, which is on the gritstone edge to the northeast of Derwent Reservoit. Well worht a visit, and easy to include some other spectacular trig pillars in at the same time. This is the highest point in South Yorkshire. Margery trig point. Margery trig point.©discjirm
