Quite a plod from Langsett, mostly dry underfoot until the summit area which was very boggy, especially the continuation to Outer Edge.

Margery Hill The beauty of the walk up contrasts with the dreariness of the summit area.

Grim place on a wet day! Been here lots of times. There are several aircraft wreks around, if you know how to find them, including a round scar left in the peat by a flying bomb. Outer Edge pillar is not far across the moor, but always wet. Catch the bus to the end of the lane, that's what I say!

I re-visited this pillar on 01 Aug 2006 after several earlier visits, the most recent being in Feb 2001. I found it much as I remember it, in good condition with very little erosion around because it stands on a small outcrop of rock. One new thing is a fenced-off area about 200 yards to the West of the pillar with a notice erected by the National Trust saying that the enclosed area has been identified as a Bronze Age burial mound and requesting walkers to keep out of the fenced area.

This is painted white and set in a ring of peat. At the time of our visit, it was incredibly misty, so although I'm sure the views are superb, we couldn't see a damn thing. Had to use the compass to find it, and to get back to the path. Plug replaced with plastic insert.
