TP4799 - Middle Crag
Logged Visits:
Up Crag end drive, then across to water pump. From Pillar possible to see Ashton memeorial, Blackpool tower and Plover Scar lighthouse and much more besides
Parked at Crag End farm drive,up drive and across field on footpaths towards the mast, then through a gate, and left to trig.Trig in good nick, original plug and 1 sight hole open.Stone wall behind looks newly built and on my way back, nearly got showered in sh*t as farmer was muck spreading!
Last of the day parked up below middle crag farm entry lane met farmer in yard was relutant to give permission at first then was ok we got chatting he said he could remember it being built as a child! Very muddy this now go through second gate to trig original plug no views thick mist came down.
Great views, easier to get to from below, as I found after approcahing from above....
Went up wrong lane but friendly farmer was happy to show us the way. Trig on left next to long wall with view of old wind mast towards the sea Best access 2nd field on left after farm, cows in first field to friendly. Last bit over fence next to trig
Took footpath to Middlecrag farm then slight trespass but out of sight of farm
Off the road, up the farm track, then in a big circle to avoid fields of slavering cows. On the way back, the cows had moved, anticipating my route, pawing at the ground as they waited for me. I hate cows! Pillar fine, good views to coast
Nothing inspiring, boggy walk in down the farm track (on the day).
Only the North sight open and very good condition overall. Two flocks of curious rams and a rather large drystane dyke tried to stop me... really good western view.
Corner of field, plug intact. Trig in good condition but footpaths very wet and churned-up by cattle. View of wind farm out in Morecambe Bay. I wondered if the bull in the next field had been put there for the benefit of the engineers working on the electricity pylons 8-)
4/27 Walked in from the West possible to bury the car just south of the farm drive. trig itself vgc with views both of town and Heysham
Bad weather.
We took the track past Middle Crag farm and then headed up to the trig which is visible from the path. Plug with indented lettering.
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, near NE cnr of pasture
11/29 for the day. Just a regular trig. |
