Well worth a visit. Still recognisable as a trig. Rare chance to see the inner stud and wood framework.
Think this trig could do with it\'s own category. You can definitely tell this is the foundations of the trig with a small amount of the trig still attached. Sight holes can be seen and a bit of the whitewash. Answered my question about what the inside of a trig looked like. Easy access from the Sandal Fitness club car park.
Happened to be passing so went for a look, didn`t expect to see anything so left the camera in the car. Very interesting remains, selected `toppled or moved` as some of it still exists.
No problem parking at the Sandal Fitness Centre. Same as comments below, no trig but the big lump of concrete is a crazy substitute. Contrary to the comment by MikeG in 2003 about the trig symbol not being shown on current OS maps, it is on my Explorer 278, Sheffield & Barnsley 2006 (see photo).
One of three while out on a shopping trip.
Turned L . into CP (Just B4 T Lights)Go round to right side of cp to road round back of building.Lump of concrete is sat there a few yards down to right. There`s space to turn round 50yds on.
I\'m sure I saw this on a previous visit but didnt recognise it as the pillar base.
An after the event logging from a visit prior to finding this site.
W edge of rugby field just E of car park, at edge of access road. Base on its side, with rivet still in place. No trace of pillar, but as the base is still present, Definitely Missing seems a bit harsh.
As Ted says the base is the only section thats left. Go into the Sandal RFUC (yes thats RU not RL, spit & hiss) car park and a road wanders briefly to the right of the club house towards the training pitch. There it is, sat bereft of its former glory, but no less loved for that by those of a certain persuasion.
Revisited following Griefmiester\'s report. Foundations of trig moved a few yards from original location: upper centre mark with wooden surround, remains of sighting holes and base of angle irons. Concrete down to the position of the lower centre mark but the rest of the pillar is missing, presumed demolished. Not clear why they bothered to keep this part but it would have been non-trivial to excavate. In Trigonomy, JWR records the trig as S4080, destroyed by OS Oct 1998. Revisited 27 Sep 2009 - passing by so checked just in case further remains but nothing else found.
Well it may have moved, and it may be damaged, but it's still around! - located just off car park at side of rugby pitch. See photes.

I looked behind the gardens and there was nothing to see. I was working from a map that was 30 years old and it showd it but to is not on the new ones.
Nothing to see.
GPS indicated under car park near entrance to club.
Will revisit with 10 digit grid ref and GPS. In view of comments on preceeding visits I dont expect to find it.
Removed by OS in 1998
Agree with Morsemans log ... it ain't there anymore and isn't shown on current OS maps
A new rugby clubhouse is right on top of where this should be. |
