Started out on the track from near Cumle and round the Mill Lochs. Where the track started to descend to Burki Waters I branched off to the ENE up a valley to meet the end of the track from Knowe. From here it was a fairly short walk up to the summit where the pillar sits in a strange square stone enclosure with a half-partition wall presumably shielding the trig from fierce winds! Good views of Papa Stour, Vementry and the mainland. 3.4 miles round trip; 45 mins up, 40 down. Pillar details and photos to follow...

Not visited this trig since May 2006 but a fine day drew me out. It is still in the same place as before!!

I'd had an early start and needed to do a lot of road walking to get over here from the camping böd in Voe. I ascended on the track to the southeast and it was then quite simple to cover the rest of the distance to the pillar. The weather was threatening to close in, but I still had reasonable views to the north. Clear enough to pick out the very dramatic Drongs, several miles away by Hillswick. I headed down on the track past Loch of Bottoms and back onto Mainland at Roesound.

The dry stane dyking surrounding the TP makes it the best sheltered one I've visited.

Located at South Ward the walk in is pleasant and not too strenuous. The views over the western side of Shetland are breathtaking. Carry on to Mid Ward to "bag" the Marilyn. Staring point has good parking HU3252563172 (Logged grid is average of 120 readings accuracy 12m GPSmap 76C)
