TP5061 - Narachan Hill
Logged Visits:
HISTORY: Pillar completed 31st October 1955 costing £55.17s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS04/T47 in 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in August 1978. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Parked in wide lane off east side of A83 at NR699461, just before Tayinloan. After losing the way via a maze of discontinuous paths in dense woods, a track is eventually traced at NR716464. Descended to the ruined farm at Lagloskine leaving the track there and climbing ENE to woods and continuing through break to higher level track. Followed track to NR754467 then headed north up through sparce woods onto open hill and up to the summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~286°. Vented through SE sight hole. 360° open outlook from top. Returned via Lagloskine then staying outside woods as much as possible, tracks still discontinuous.
vgc, metal cap, wide raised letters. Interesting heathery hill in a sea of conifers. Tracks linked by network of rides - see 1:25k map.
