Done on a circular walk from Fairholmes after visting Margery Hill. A very stiff climb to reach but views make it worthwhile the effort.

Amazed to see how much erosion has taken place, leaving the trig well and truly high and dry.

Would say the trig is now about 18 inches above the peat on its plinth. Done from Langsett via Margery Hill and a very boggy walk across (about 0.5km of which was doing the long jump). Took GPS reading then managed to delete before recording it when I got home. Outer Edge Plenty of erosion hereabouts!

Boggy walk across from Margery, despite the recent dry weather, although the path is easy to follow thanks to the wooden stakes. Trig stands proud from the surrounding peat thanks to substantial erosion. Also has a recent coat of white paint thanks to some kind beneficiary. Dropped down westward through the heather to Broadhead Clough, then back to Fairholmes.

I re-visited this pillar on 01 August 2006 after many previous visits, the most recent being in 2001. The first thing I noticed was that the memorial plaque for the dog "Penny" has gone - presumably stolen by some mindless vandal. The plastic top cap that I fitted in 2001 is still in situ and has now been painted white. The pillar is in good condition although its base stands about a foot above the surrounding peat due to erosion. Outer Edge Trig Pillar in 2006

In good condition and painted white atop a very eroded concrete plinth. There is a plaque to a much loved dog called Penny. We got bitten to death by midges which wasn't much fun. Lovely views. Plug replaced with plastic insert.

Dreary long walk to this across a bog in the wind. Great views. Trig is dedicated to Penny - a dog! What's all that about?

After a quick sromp across a rather boggy moor , reached this, the final trigpoint on my day's walk. Getting a bit tired at this point, so opted to descend into Derwent valley and take the longer, but flatter walk out. Total route 30km and boy are my legs aching now! The trigpoint

Memorial The trig is "dedicated" to a dog called Penny, who died aged 15 in 1998. Perhaps this was her favourite trig point for peeing against. Not sure I approve of making trigs into memorials, especially for dogs.
