Liked this one - easy walk up from the road to the West - It felt like a scene from Jason and the Argonaughts - great views, intersting area and monument. Pillar good condition.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 19th July 1947 costing £5.5s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ29/49 within the Newcastle block during 1947. Refixed as a fourth order station in 1966. Refixed again as fourth order in 1981 and finally refixed as a tertiary station in 1984. Levelled for height in 1963. Last maintained by the OS, 9th August 2000. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Easy parking on section of old road on NW side of A183 at NZ335542. Follow mapped RoW to top. Situated to the west of the monument, the pillar in good condition, signs of one time plaque, now long gone. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 3°N. Vented through east sight hole.

Cracking view alongside a Masonic Folly… outstanding ! Missing cap and a plaque ? I think the North sight was open (bit of a rush).

Quite probably the furthest reaching view in the north east and well worth a visit. The trig in in good condition but the mount is slightly damaged.

Very impressive monument! Pillar has some concrete spalling at the top and the plaque has long gone. Plug missing.

Imagine my shock when that thing appeared out of the haar. Pillar dwarfed by the mother of all monuments, well until the Angel of course. There was a plaque on the pillar but it has long been nedded. Graffiti and a missing corner too.
