There is a large chunk of concrete missing from one side of the pillar and several smaller chunks also. The pillar stands on a small concrete plinth, visible at grass level. There is an asphalt plug replacement. No significant white paint noted. South sighthole closed but others open. Rain closing in so views not brilliant.
Scond time lucky as range walks close last time in the area. Visit to Tyneham before and Lulworth after for a pleasant day. Pillar good with nice vista.
went for a coastal walk taking in the trig point along the way. A lovely warm November day
With Splash - amazing views on clear day
Great location on the Range walk. Fabulous spring weather (for once) and plenty of grand views.
I would think Whiteway hill more descriptive of the location.
Pillar had a chunk missing out of the side. Asphalt plug. Good views, lovely walk from car park. It was weekend so walks were open.
Interesting walk around Tyneham - Dartford Warbler nearby.
Great day. Great views. As saginanivalis says there is a significant chip on one of the edges - merits 'Slightly damaged'.
chipped halfway down, but sound. asphalt plug, too hazy to make best of view, but a nice area. Access via track from viewpoint 1mi to E - closed by MoD most weekdays and the odd weekend. Lulworth Range Walks website still had 2006 info when I checked before visiting.
In the gunnery range NW of Tyneham. Photo not to hand at present
Range walks were closed so a frustrating distance view only
Good views to Portland.
Cold north wind, ooh my frozen face. Access only when the Range Walks are open - unusually open on a Tuesday, but that's because its the Christmas Holidays.
"Firing Range Keep Out", just a recce really, so I did. Monday probably not a good day to visit. From subsequent reearch Feb07: Lulworth Range Walks and Tyneham Village are open to the public every weekend from 09.00am Saturday until 07.30pm Sunday (a few exceptions - see website http://www.twinning.org.uk/range_walks.htm
Stunning view. Tarmac plug
Wonderful walk from Whiteway Hill Car Park. Army boys have kindly left a picnic table on Flowers Barrow!
Updated flush bracket number
Visited with gale force winds and very low visibility. Only accessible when the Lulworth Range walks are open. The lack of damage is surprising with the amount of shredded metal around, and even the odd tank shell. Visit on a clear day for (I'm sure)excellent views of Tyneham and the Dorset Coast.
Next to a handy bench. |
