TP5712 - Rod Moor
Logged Visits:
On hilltop in heather moorland, access by footpath at side of house - scary guard dogs -then easy walk through heather behind private wood.Central plug missing, otherwise intact, very mossy. Good views.
snow still lingering.pillar a bit mossy but in good condition, could do with a spruce up .who paints these pillars?.had quite a welcome from the 3 alsations and 2 ridgebacks at nearby crawshaw lodge.my little springer was not detered
Trig point in good condition situated in its isolated position on Rod Moor. Weather cold and misty, some snow left after Jan 2010 heavy snow
Walked up the footpath to the gate then headed up the side of the walled wood to the trig.Lovely views.
Lovely spot. Walked up the footpath to the gate then headed up the side of the walled wood to the trig. First one with my eldest brother.
Bit of a mistake with the parking at Load Brook near entrance to public footpath, Grid ref SK 27214 88747 took footpath N/E Then West through wood saw man but not confronted. Hard walk up hill in thick bracken to trig took road to the South back to car East to crossroad then North to Load Brook.
Parked 100yds to east of drive to house. Hopped over fence. up to trig and back. Getting dark so views limited !
Over fence from Rod Side and straight to TP
Not easily accessible but quite visible upon nearing. I was looking for a place to hop over the fence from Rod Side. Unfortunately my parking had partly blocked the entrance for the returning owner of Crawhaw Lodge so I dashed back to apologise. In the resulting conversation I explained the purpose of my visit and was immediately invited to go up through the cemetery and hop over the wall near the mausoleum. I was given the key to the cemetery [which now belongs to the house and is locked due to vandalism] and did as suggested. Once over the wall the trig point is easy to see and visit. Some lovely views across the Rivlin Valley. Pillar in good condition except that the plug is missing.
walked up the drive and took footpath up hill, good views, very wet.
good views of distant sheffield
Bagged on a circular walk from Hathersage. Squeezed through fence east of house then up across rough moor to trig which lies on open access land. Good views to Sheffield and beyond.
Went back again (me and Pete are writing a book, so we needed the pics). Best approach is up the drive past Crawshaw Lodge, over the gate then turn back and up behind the trees. Nice peacocks at the Lodge, and a nice cup of coffee for any trigpointers who are polite and show interest in the birds! (The good lady will lock up the four dogs before you enter the garden!)
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, pleasant moorld summit, fine view E
Have to confess to jumping the fence. Pheasants and grouse scattered in all direction, but I had no gun! TP sound, with all bits intact
Been here many times but this the first since CROW.
Approached from W behind woodland. An electric fence alongside wall but easily negotiated. Getting too dark for distant views.
Sealed off by wall and fence on private land, but gives good views of moors and sheffield from it.
Situated on Rod Moor about 1 km north of the A57. It isn’t directly on any footpah but there is a track that leads up to Grawshaw Farm that you can use to gain access to the moor and then work your way across to the T/P. It’s complete and in good condition. It was grey and hazy when I visited but the views were good and would be better on a clear, sunny day.
pleasant moorld summit, fine view E
A bit trespassy. Plug with indented lettering.
Pillar on heather and rush moor: views south over Hallam Moors and Redmires Reservoirs. |
