Revisit. For photographs and GPS reading. Ros Castle. Approached from south. Parked on NE verge of road at NU080249, just west of high point. From there, a footpath leads to the top of the hill. Pillar in good condition with memorial plaque fitted to east face. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces south ~189°. Vented through west sight hole. An adjacent viewing platform with four separate topographs highlights various locations in the 360° panorama with long distance views from this top.

A visit to coincide with bagging the nearby Ros Castle geocache. No problems reaching this one apart from a steady climb up from the nearby roadside parking spot. Pillar in good condition apart from the missing plug. Wonderful extensive all round views. Particularly nice on a sunny April afternoon.

Parked car on minor road to south and made the short ascent up the slightly muddy and heathery path. What castle? Now that is what I call a plaque - no messing around there.

Second marilyn of the day, not bad for convalescence. Good view of a muirburn on Bewick Moor. Pillar intact with comemorative plaque but no plug. Very fine view, still snow on The Cheviot. No plane spotters, in fact nobody about at all. PS its "Ros Castle".
24th Sep 2003 12:01 by teasel
The local plane spotters were out in force today to watch the military jets doing their exercises. Great views from this little hill, and there's a little enclosure built into the wall with plates showing what can be seen.
24th Sep 2003 12:01 by The Peak Plodders
I think we disturbed the plane spotters who were out in force today.
