TP6370 - The Comp
Logged Visits:
Walked up South Downs Way from Alfriston and turned left to visit trig points at Denton Hill, The Comp and Frog Firle before returning to Alfriston. Vicious wind and rain/sleet meant these three trigs were very hard-earned! First day of the South Downs being a National Park and judging by the number of people we met (2), most people chose to celebrate by staying in the warm! Where the bridleway forks, follow the field line for a hundred yards and pillar is between field and golf course.
Buried in hedge between arable field to S and golf course to N. No views as a result, but TP in good condition with original, slightly unusual, plug. I was closely watched by a Police helicopter on my walk back to High and Over car park - it came back for a second look. I\'m just a humble trigpointer - honest.
A tricky one, and the hardest of my day - I like the idea that it\'s shy. It\'s well buried in the hedge and you really need a GPS to find it. I scrambled up from the track to the north, walked along the hedge through a recently cut corn field. Exited more easily walking along the field boundaries to a more easy duck through to the path. Looks in good condition but you can\'t get very close.
A shy trig. I approached from the east initially gaining access to the arable field then following it around the edge beteen the trees and the field and then just the last two ards was a dive into the bushes to photograph this well preserved trig.
A fun challenge to find it! Right on the edge of a Golf course and a ploughed field behind a small copse.
Difficult to find. Its on the edge of the golf course in the trees.
Located behind golf course next to "The Comp" track - pillar is almost lost in the bushes, and appears to be in good condition. slightly strange looking centre plug. Nice views of surrounding downland.
A bit trespassy as it's off the footpath in the hedge line. No views. There were shooters near enough for us to hear their voices so we didn't hang about. Metal plug with lightly indented lettering.
vgc, metal cap shallow letters, hiding in hedge at E corner of golf course, 53m E from 14th Tee, edge of arable, decent view
At the end of a long walk from Frog Firle carpark I had hoped to find a trigpoint sitting on top of open downland. Instead it was hiding in heavy scrub on the edge of a field. The pillar is in good condition, but the surrounding bushes made photography rather difficult.
Located in scrub bushes between a ploughed field and Seaford Golf Course. In good condition, albeit green with moss, with centre plug still intact.
We parked at the car park next to Frog Firle pillar and walked from there. The walk is pleasant but the trig itself is in an overgrown hedge. Plug with indented lettering. |
