TP7377 - Holme Fen
Logged Visits:
Parking just yards away from post on opposite side of road
Second visit to the UK low point. Didn't bother climbing down into the ditch this time though. Also didn't dig out the GPS to record location.
Holme Fen Post.
As others - doing the Earthcache, and stumbled across this...
Extra interest being 2.7.m below sea level!
So! it's not a trigpoint! - but it has a Flush Bracket and it is a very interesting location - well worth a visit.
Found while looking for geocache GC1C967
Found while caching at same spot. GPS read -8 feet.
A very interesting and historic location
A flush bracket on the 1957 post. Interesting because of its mention in the Guinness Book of Records (1994 edition - Depression p14, Lowest lying area in Great Britain at 2.7 metres below sea level and - Roads: Lowest p128, lowest surface roads in Great Britain are just below sea level in the Holme Fen area at 2.75 metres below sea level) as well as the beauty of it lying in a National Nature Reserve.
Holme Fen Posts, SE side of Holme Lode reached by footbridge from car park. on newer of 2 posts installed to monitor peat wastage (4m since 1860): info board tells more
Found this one while geocaching (GCG43T - Pillar to Post)
I visited this location whilst on a geocaching trip. Interesting stuff.
