A circular walk from Ulverston after a big birthday breakfast in the Indoor Market. Followed the Cumbria Way, but peeled off before The Rake to gain access onto this area of moorland, which I have never visited before and the reason I am here. Walked N to S beside a broken wall, crossed road and continued to gate and trod to pillar. In a blink of an eye I went overnight from 62 to 63, so birthdays can have this fine pillar. Coming thick and fast on the conveyor belt called life.

A challenging drive up the road from the A595 past High Bank House Farm and onto a fairly compact area of open moorland. Followed the fence line and then veered half right on reaching a gate to pick up a clear path through the heather to the pillar. Too overcast for extensive views today, apart from a shaft of sunlight illuminating the Barrow Monument. A stiff cold northerly breeze too, which meant the 5 nearby wind turbines were working at full tilt. Prior to this bag we had done a shoreline walk to Dunnerholme, 4km to the west, which is a fantastic vantage point to observe the Duddon Estuary
