2nd visit - Passing by so a quick stop off to take a Grid Ref reading, which was, pleasingly, spot on. Otherwise, nothing new to report. ~~ 17/09/21 Visiting just a month after the block was last logged I was hopeful Chris would have left the block unburied and easy to find, and indeed he had. It only took a minute or two to spot it in the long grass, distracted initially by a couple of decoy molehills! We have left it exposed for the next Trig Baggers. Extensive views from up here, this is a glorious and remote part of Northumberland, well worth a visit. Makes you wonder how grand the views from near-by Fourlaws Hill pillar were like before it got buried by a plantation...
Detail 22/08/24 Storm 'nose' where to find it...
View West 17/09/21 Storm's 'Not Pillar' #73
View North If you draw a line between the fence post one to the left of the main strainer post on the N side of the site....
View South ...and line it up with the bushy tree on the S of the wall over the road...
View West ...and finally draw a straight line following the wall running along the N side of the road to the W, you'll be spot on!

Wide rough verge with long grass. Measured 14m up from the wall, and 4.6m in from road edge... few probes and there it was. 2" bolt in concrete block. Left it uncovered.

Buried beneath a couple of inches of turf in long grass, but excellent sightlines from fence and earthwork meant 10" screwdrive found it very quickly.

An easy bag whilst YOSM bagging in the area. Followed Rob's log, 4.6m from road edge, in line with fence, 14m from wall corner. approx in line with end of pull in. 2.5" bolt in block, in depression in deep grass, spotted immediately

OS Sketch correct, but the small pullin has been used by road contractors who have left piles of gravel and debris around the site. Stan Toon we left a small marked pole next to the block, better luck next time.

no problem locating it; the block was uncovered on a tussocky verge. It is in line with the fence along the north side of the road running SW, and with the old wall line across the field to the SE (see my pictures, blue umbrella marks the spot).... so fancy business with tapes isnt needed. The nearby fence post 10.53m north of the block, marked as P/N IN POST on the OS sketch, has a stud hammered into its top surface. The pink spray paint has gone.

Well the last log was Dec 2007, although Id say someone has been up since then as it was uncovered and easily found - just some moss growing on it. Next to a handy pull in - the pics with the fence in it made it easy to locate

Surface block at side of minor road off A68. In thick vegetation. On the road was pink spray can lettering NY8981 and an arrow pointing into the verge. About 1.5m in was the block!
