Pleasant walk up on easy tracks from mapped forest car park to NE. Squat, square pillar, unusual design, but a few similar shaped up this way. Pillar has many fractures that appear to be structural rather than just surface. Centre cap missing, tube not plugged; apparently no sight/drainage holes, perhaps explaining the fractures. Failed to walk on from summit to the Aux... doh!

Second visit. For photographs and GPS readings. HISTORY: Early records for these Lossiemouth Base Extension pillars are unclear but this pillar may have been built by 1912. Computed as primary triangulation station PP348 within Figure 3 of the OSGB36 primary network during 1937. The pillar top was levelled for height in 1953 but flush bracket 11094 wasn't added until 27th July 1963. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in May 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from northeast. Forest car park at NJ333491. Followed mapped forest track to NJ322489. From there are steep westerly running path cuts the long route and rejoins the track at NJ318490. It is easier to continue with the mapped track network all the way to the summit rather than cutting across boggy moorland. Heather cland top. Lossiemouth style column on heather clad top. Pillar in fair condition. Spider retains OS cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~212. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view includes Knock and Ben Rinnes between heavy showers.
