Whitby Abbey. The shell of a 13th century Benedictine abbey built in the gothic style. It was reduced to a ruin by the repulsive Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and sits on the site of an earlier Christian monastery built in the 7th century. The mast has gone, although the base remains. The Abbey features in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, in which Dracula in the form of a dog, comes ashore, and runs up the 199 steps to St Mary's church, which is next door to the Abbey. The east and west piers can be seen from the Abbey, each of which has a lighthouse. There is a CBM and 1GL/PA bolt on the north face of the tower on St Mary's church

Concrete blocks & some stubs of angle iron are all that are left of this one. Nice location next to the Abbey, easy access on the coastal footpath. The TV mast on the site was finally dismantled in late 2007/early 2008, after fears that it would go over the cliff due to coastal erosion. It was replaced by a mast a couple of miles inland
