2/3 from Pole Bank NT car park along PROW. Trig sits just inside a field off the path by a weather station. Has a bit of a lean. Trig is in good condition with spider and FB intact. Replacement plastic plug in place.

Had to work hard for this one, ploughing through deep snow. Trig appears to be in good condition but has a slight lean, possibly due to soil erosion around the base. Good views of the wintry landscape.

Approached from Bridges on the Shropshire Way to the Portway with a very short diversion off to reach this pillar. Light and days fade fast at this time of year and returned back to town the most direct way over the golf course. No headtorches were required. Cheap packet noodles....you know the ones...gifted for the ease and convenience when backpacking.

Parked on the road to the north of the pillar in a lay-by. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from there, which is called 'The Port Way' - an ancient trackway which runs the length of the Long Mynd massif. Left the PRoW at SO 42203 98271 by climbing over a gate into a field. Then followed the track round and headed, first south, and then east up to the pillar. The cap was missing, so I replaced it

Exposed base and slightly leaning hence the 'slightly damaged' rating, otherwise in good condition. Circular walk from Bridges which gives a distinct feeling of hostility to visitors in these 'covid times' with car park barricaded, picnic tables up turned and a plethora of 'no parking' signs - The only one we have encountered since the easing of lock-down.

The sun has returned at last. Parked at cattle grid near Upper Darnford and walked footpath into valley then up to the Shropshire way. Along the way towards the trig point field, which can be accessed over a gate on the summit. Great views now the weather has picked up.

Brightness retreating north as muggy grey windy weather comes up from Wales and the south. Quick trip to Ragleth Hill which tempted me on Saturday to end the day, before the torrential rain makes a return.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 25th July 1948 costing £8.6s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SJ44/T6 during 1948. Levelled for height to Class 1 tertiary standards in 1954. Last maintained by the OS in June 1976. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Parked just south of cattle grid off west side of road at SO425974. Followed mapped RoW north which drops into valley and climbs up to the Portway route and followed that NW until reaching the pillar. Column off plumb and undermined but otherwise in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces northwest, compass measurement 302°. Vented through SE and SW sight holes. 292° panoramic view spans from NW through east to WSW, remainder blocked by nearby woods.

Parking at the car park to the SE, nice easy walk over past the two boundary stones, Pillar located a few meters off the ROW, one gate to hop over, was taking pictures when Land Rover drove up to me. driver smiled and drove on. Pillar good condition, great views today.

Nice ridge walk along The Portway from the road to the southeast. Magnificent views out towards the east from along the ridge on a clear April afternoon. A stumpy comms mast is just a few feet away - probably the shortest comms tower Ive ever seen :)

Here on a breezy day. Sky to south dark and threatening but sunshine was picking out the TP on Earl's Hill and Shrewsbury generally. Incidentally, noted the boundary marker and bench mark photographed by a previous visitor, but can't find it on OS database.

Parking at Upper Darnford, just over the cattle grid. Lovely dusk walk down the vally and up onto the Portway. Twinkling lights of Shrewsbury 10miles NW. Dark for the return, no torch but enough light. Pillar found in good condition 30m S of Portway on field boundary, with exposed base. Cap missing, no plug; rear sight hole open, RHD side plug degrading.

3rd pillar working North along Long Mynd. ROW mostly rideable from Ratlinghope to Woolstaston road. Kept on to NW where it becomes tarred soon after pillar. Now off to find lunch and head home. Nine pillars ticked in 2 days to reach 224 for year and 2114 total.
