Another early outing in battlement against diminished daylight hours in attempt to 'kick-off' the Derby 259 OS map & in so doing 'bag' seven trigs...Birchwood Park, Prestwood, Cliff Top, Weaver Hills, Milk Hill, Hoften's Cross & Black Heath. Out at 06:00 & back in from a 143 mile round trip from Salford, Manchester at 13:30 with all seven trigs 'bagged' by 11:30. For Birchwood Park parked 'off-road' at the 'pull-in' by the reservoir gate GR 14732 40544 & climbing the gate, a short walk North to locate the trig in the 'tree-line'. For Prestwood drove right upto the trig parking at GR 10529 42178...Having a central reservation of grass, Prestwood Lane was a little rough but my Citroen C1 seemed to have escaped unscathed. A word of caution, exercise great care on the steps of the 'outdoor lav' they were exceptionally slippy consequence of algae...I took a right tumble from the top one in my wellybobs! For Cliff Top parked in the car park of the Dog & Partridge GR 13445 48088 & crossing the A52 climbed a gate, went thro' another open one to the right & proceeded diagonally up-field to the trig on the right. For Milk Hill parked-up at Huddale Farm GR 09827 49093 & sought permission from John to do so. Followed the track downhill towards the pond with, climbing the gate at GR 09443 49013 continuation right uphill to veer Left to the trig. For Weaver Hills parked half on half off-road at GR 10397 46299 at the start of the right of way & pretty much followed it & the waymarkers up onto the trig. For Hoften's Cross parked just off-road to the right of the sheep pen on the B5417 GR 07944 47811 & climbing the stile veered left from the muddy track upto the trig. For Black Heath parked at a widened road portion at GR 05007 50083 & climbing over the wall aside the car, 'roughed-it' thro' the heather to cross the road & go thro' the gap in the wall to the trig...Instead of parking on the side-road signposted Winkhill there's enough room to park right by the gap in the wall at GR 05034 49911. There's another trig very close-by this last trig, Ipstones just off this OS map at GR 01567 50069 'baggable' from the OL24 map. As 'trigbagging' goes, a relatively easy seven trig forage with little in the way of parking & access problems & with even the longer walks being relatively uninvolved. Had I lived away, the trigs themselves were 'nothing to write home about' but seven trigs is seven trigs nearer that thousand i'm aiming for though seeming an awful long way off as maps 'run-out'.

Pillar history: Built on the 19th of September 1938, at a cost of £3 13s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in July of 1983.
